This is terrible. Poor Shawn Smith and everyone who knew him and his fans.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata0 -
What year was this, I saw Brad in Columbus I think in 1999. Met Shawn and Stone at the Big Room Performance. RIP Mr. Smith your music has been a big part of my life.derbydave said:Such an INCREDIBLE talent...
The Day Brings is one of my all time favorite songs!!
Seeing Shawn play Brad hits & covering Crown Of Thorns & Purple Rain,
live in a barn in Central Ohio is one of my greatest concert memories.
I'll never forget how genuine he was & so happy we have his music to remember him forever!!

Shawn's college roommate owns The Barn & Winery and holds a few shows there every summer.
There were maybe 50 people there and Happy Chichester of Howlin' Maggie played a set right before Shawn.
Happy joined Shawn on the keyboard for his encore.
Here's the setlist from the show:

I also saw BRAD here in Columbus at The LC in October of 2010...
They opened for Band Of Horses!!

This is horrible news. Of all the PJ side projects, Brad is one of my favorites. I remember buying the Shame CD at a local record store when I was stationed in Japan in the early 90's right when it came out. I had read a snippet about it in Rolling Stone and knew I had to get it. I played it for months on end, and still listen to it regularly, as it was a soundtrack to many memories from those days. A few weeks ago, I don't remember exactly where, but I was in a shop somewhere and heard "20th Century" come on, and I involuntarily started bobbing my head and tapping my fingers along to it and had a big smile on my face. I also had the pleasure of meeting Jeremy Toback at one of his solo shows in the late 90's, where there must have been less than 20 people, and I was just shocked at how such a band of talented people could go so unnoticed outside of Stone's obvious connection to Pearl Jam. I'm gonna go spin some Brad vinyl right now...

One of the most under-appreciated artists of all time. A staggering voice. A wonderful song writer. And a lovely chap. And by all accounts he died because in America healthcare is only for those that can afford it. For that reason I'm finding his death more tragic than Kurt, Layne or Chris at this very moment.0

Horrible news. Incredible voice. One of my favorite singers of all time. I will always feel lucky to have seen brad several times and satchel twice. Another devastating loss for the music industry.0

Thoughts are with his son. Upsetting enough for shaun's fans so lord only knows how that kid is feeling right now.0

What in the actual...? Why? I love Brad. Pigeonhead is very strong too. Shawn’s voice is what makes both of those bands stand out. Especially Shame. Buttercup is an all-timer for me. I’m gutted.0

Drove by Kurt's overflowing memorial park bench today. This hurts worse. Sorry for his family, and many Seattle music friends, and Stone, and myself. Loved this music. Fire's Comin' Down playing now./Users/j2sue/Desktop/Boston 5:17:10.JPG0
