has anyone gone from mayor to the Oval office?
    Give Peas A Chance…
  • Trump is awful and unfit. I don’t have to justify that. Buttigieg is forward thinking , result proven/driven while still maintaining a kind, intelligent, educated......and normal character!

Trump, well he’s not the aforementioned.

Interesting. South Bend, home to Notre Dame has a gay mayor.

Up hill battle on several fronts. Being gay is one of them. Ivy League and Rhodes scholar another(elitist lefty)  Getting his name out there being an unknown figure.

Personally I dont give a shit about any of that. Can you speak plainly with us, have reasonable ,passable policy goals and not pander to whatever interest group? Can you tell us what you are for and not just present yourself as not that other guy?

  • Apologies, I thought I was speaking plainly. I was offering the links to make your own unbiased opinion. My comment on trump is just one of general truth. Other than that, what exactly are you asking for? :)

No. But one has made an even more asinine jump to the Oval Office.

How hilarious is it that being a Rhodes Scholar and and Ivy Leaguer is bad.  But it is. Of course, Trump graduated from an Ivy League school but his more recent buffoonery more than erases that faux pas.

And, of course, I highlight "Ivy League and Rhodes Scholar" as a stupid thing that could hurt him while it sits right next to being gay as another thing that could hurt him.  And that this would hurt his chance is equally awful, albeit less surprising.

That he's "just a mayor" and is not very well known are legitimate concerns, of course.  He's only 37, though, so he might be wise to try to get into the House or even Senate (tough state, though) and maybe he'll find himself in a better position, nationally, in a decade or so.

he was just on cbs this morning. all too brief and he tripped over a few words trying to answer as many questions as the segment allowed, but overall did very well imo.

    look forward to hearing more.

  • Soo great! Yes I saw that. The hopes here are that an underdog with a forward thinking viewpoint, liberal and sane (as opposed to trump -I won’t capitalize his name) These are just some core standards. I understand there is much more to look at but it is a candidate that is more than a step in the right direction. Also, I know him. We attended the same high school here. Great background and genuinely good person.

Here's that video.  I like what I hear.  Smart guy, common sense, great priorities.  Can he overcome the obstacles of being young and gay?  Well, trump managed to win despite obvious obstacles so maybe so!

Just heard this guy on MSNBC (on radio only) as I was flipping between 3 news stations.  He was very impressive.  Again, I'm not aligned with him on every issue for sure and I need to look closely at that, but he was very put together, came off as intellectual, had some interesting perspectives...and still managed to throw in a few of the usual stupid liberal talking points meant to spark outrage (but they all do that).

All in all he is someone that people should at least should be wanting to learn more about and keep in mind.

Man you always focus on minute details instead of the big picture.

When discussing “late term abortions”, he kept saying that male politicians have no business in it and it’s up to women and doctors. In reality, I thought the liberal stance was no politician has business. That I understand. The fact that he kept repeating Male and women so much is a liberal talking point.  It helps drive outrage and mobilize people. It makes a very serious issue of life and tries to paint it as a sexist issue. It is sexist for some I’m sure, but certainly not for all. If he had left it at “politicians” should have no voice, only doctors and the affected people (women, husband) I would have no issue with his statement. I mean I might not agree but it’s a very valid and arguable position. The rest is just meant to divide.

The devil’s in the details. Now, that’s one example of the “usual stupid liberal talking points.” Were there any others? And what “big picture” did I miss? Sorry, you chose to mention that “minute” detail, you know message boards and all.

As for abortion being a sexist issue, it is. Name one medical procedure men can get that has been banned or both genders are trying to get banned because of some moral high ground. Do you really think that if men could carry embryos to term, we’d be having this conversation?

This is why I didn't include the issues.  I'm not going to debate abortion with you here.

I'm certain there were a few other instances of what I believe is the liberal talking points.  Cause I believe that not just the conservative do that.  But I do not remember at this point.  I usually hear them and then disregard mostly anyhow.

Anyhow - I was impressed by him as a speaker...as someone who had well thought-out positions/opinions (even if I might disagree).  I doubt he actually gets a fair shake because 1) He is in a crowded field 2) He's the mayor of a small city....but he made a good case to me in a short amount of time.  Will be interesting to see how his candidacy plays out. He seems to have a bright future at the moment.

“Came off as intellectual?  No thank you.”

    Indeed.
The anti-intellectualism trend is so pathetic. Embarrassing, really.

A wonderful response. If this was the overwhelming response across the world, it would mean a lot.
