interesting....I had seen someone theorize that it appeared to be an account deletion rather than a suspension. Nice to know that Musk didn't go there.

Tesla issues software fix for 1.8 million vehicles over hood latch issue By Aaron Gregg July 30, 2024 at 9:00 ET Tesla has issued a software fix to the vast majority of its U.S. vehicles over the risk that the car’s software could fail to detect an unlatched hood, which could fly open and obstruct the driver’s view, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The over-the-air-update, formally described by NHTSA as a product recall, applies to more than 1.85 million vehicles from model years 2017 through 2024 across the Model S, Model X, Model 3 and Model Y product lines, as well as certain Model S and Model X vehicles from earlier years. It’s the latest large-scale product recall involving software problems for Tesla. The company issued software updates for almost all of its U.S. vehicles last December, to add more safeguards for its Autopilot system, and in February to address a problem with font sizes on its instrument panel. The company began investigating the issue in March after it received complaints from drivers in China, according to a NHTSA recall report. A month later it identified the problem as having to do with “latch switch deformation,” and an investigation determined that the problem occurred more often in China “for reasons unknown,” as compared to North America.

Fuck Elongitaint. How much does a POTUS cost? Less than a billion. An expenditure as such with resources such as they are, has no impact on Elongitaint but certainly has an impact on the rest of us. Fuck him.

I hear ya!
I hope you're right and all that money does not buy a king. I am hoping for a President.
Say what will they call her? Mrs. President? Madam President? Not that I care, as long as it's President Harris!

Elon Musk moves X out of San Francisco. City leaders shrug. By Trisha Thadani August 05, 2024 at 20:27 ET SAN FRANCISCO — After 18 years, Elon Musk will move X, formerly known as Twitter, out of San Francisco, according to Mayor London Breed’s office. The social media company has a long history with the city, but the billionaire entrepreneur, who acquired the platform in 2022, has often used it to bash the city’s progressive politics and homelessness crisis. The social network’s departure will mark the end of an era for San Francisco’s downtown Mid-Market neighborhood, where city officials once courted tech companies with incentives dubbed the “Twitter tax break.” Musk made deep cuts to Twitter’s workforce when he acquired the company in October 2022, and X only has about 120 employees left in San Francisco, said a person familiar with the company’s plans, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss company plans they were not authorized to disclose. The employees will be moved to office space in San Jose and Palo Alto, where Musk’s AI start-up, xAI, operates out of, the person said, and the company will conduct a survey to figure out where individual employees want to work. Ted Egan, San Francisco’s chief economist, said that while Twitter and its workforce were once an important driver of foot traffic in the Mid-Market neighborhood, X never served the same role. He attributes that to the work-from-home policies of the pandemic and Musk’s mass layoffs. “You never like to see a company move out of town, but it’s a much smaller company now, its future is uncertain and sometimes you have to look forward,” he said. “We may have gotten the most out of it that we were ever going to get,” Egan added.

Is that cash or equity in his company? I mean he is stupid rich with cash for sure, but if stock tanks tomorrow he has less overall wealth. It's not so bad to have wealth in companies you built.
EU warns Elon Musk ahead of Trump interview to keep hate speech off X
Key Points
European Commissioner Thierry Breton on Monday warned X owner Elon Musk that the company may face penalties if it doesn’t address the spread of illegal content.
Breton referred to riots that have taken place in the U.K., triggered by disinformation related to a fatal stabbing attack, as well as a conversation Musk is due to hold with Donald Trump.
Breton warned Musk that the EU was prepared to “make full use of our toolbox” under the Digital Services Act, including interim measures, to protect EU citizens from “serious harm.”

Now there’s a guy I want to do business with or buy a car from! From Letter From an American:
Tonight, X owner Elon Musk planned to “interview” Trump, although it seemed pretty clear the event was intended simply to be a long advertisement for him. European Union commissioner for Internal Market Thierry Breton wrote an open letter to Musk warning about E.U. laws against amplifying harmful content “that promotes hatred, disorder, incitement to violence, or certain instances of disinformation.” Breton warned that his team “will be extremely vigilant” about protecting “E.U. citizens from serious harm.” Musk responded with a meme that said: “TAKE A BIG STEP BACK AND LITERALLY, F*CK YOUR OWN FACE!”
One year from now all information not funneled through Musk will be shut down by the federal government. Laugh now; cry later.

My financial adviser used to try to argue with me that Musk is a genius, blah blah blah. I laughed at him and said, no, I had the same big ideas when I was ten years old and reading old science fiction, too. Also, he's an a-hole.
I've heard no more "Musk is a genius" since he lit Twitter on fire and started screwing over Ukraine.
Having been exposed to my share of bona fide geniuses, I'd say that my assessment of Musk as a spoiled man-child has aged well and will continue to do so.
All those who seek to destroy the liberties of a democratic nation ought to know that war is the surest and shortest means to accomplish it.
It's not that difficult to convince people that someone (you or someone else) genius with enough money and/or enough of a stage. That stupid "Apprentice" show portrayed Don as an amazing businessman and was probably a key part of getting him into the white house...in reality he was just (step 1) a guy born into a lot of money who (step 2) had a wealthy network put him on TV where he played a character.
Musk, with his money and voice, can throw out big words about "futuristic" things like hyperloops. He sounds like such a visionary.
