Congress may have a different opinion of whether "colluding" with a foreign power to throw an election, lie about it and attempt to obstruct justice rises to a "high crime & misdemeanor."

For those wondering why black voter turnout was less for Hillary, read pages 14-25, and page 25 in particular, of the Team Mueller Report. Faceturd legal counsel testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee that Putin on the ritz reached 126 million Americans with fake posts and purported political groups through faceturd and Twitter. All it took was 88,000 votes in 3 key states.
President Donald Trump at the Capitol (Source: Flickr/Official White House by Joyce N. Boghosian)
“Really the best day since he got elected,”
said Kellyanne Conway, the president’s counselor, about a day on which
400 pages dropped into the public’s lap describing relentless
presidential misconduct and serial engagements between his campaign and a
foreign actor. The weeks-long lag between Attorney General William
Barr’s announcement of Robert Mueller’s top-line findings and the
release of the Mueller report itself created space for an alternate
reality in which the document released today might give rise to such a
statement. But the cries of vindication do not survive even the most
cursory examination of the document itself.
No, Mueller did not find a criminal conspiracy between the Trump
campaign and Russia, and no, he did not conclude that President Trump
had obstructed justice. But Mueller emphatically did not find that there
had been “no collusion” either. Indeed, he described in page after
damning page a dramatic pattern of Russian outreach to figures close to
the president, including to Trump’s campaign and his business; Mueller
described receptivity to this outreach on the part of those figures; he
described a positive eagerness on the part of the Trump campaign to
benefit from illegal Russian activity and that of its cutouts; he
described serial lies about it all. And he described as well a pattern
of behavior on the part of the president in his interactions with law
enforcement that is simply incompatible with the president’s duty to
“take care” that the laws are “faithfully executed”—a pattern Mueller
explicitly declined to conclude did not obstruct justice.
The Mueller report is a document this country will be absorbing for
months to come. Below is a first crack at analyzing the features that
are most salient to us.

You know....if people are easily manipulated by social media like that... I don;t actually want them voting. I wish those on the right that are so easily manipulated to believe in such BS wouldn't vote either.
The former government failed to protect the election. The current government fails to protect the next election. But still it takes a special kind of person to follow the ramblings on social media.

m2h, while I don't personally think the impact of Russia could've been greatly material (and I'm also probably in the minority in that I think if a country is collectively stupid enough to be swayed by nonsensical ads, they deserve the shitty future they receive for allowing the dumbing down of their society and standing by idly as it happens), you should know how trivial it would be for any modern company with 30 minutes of ad-buying experience to localize any behaviour to precisely the targeted region (which could very easily explain inconsistent trends). We're in retail for example, and we often allocate our ad spends to present more frequently to users whose IP addresses are closer to our targeted regions (where our stores are). This is pretty much standard practice at this point. Another standard practice in advertising is to hide or obfuscate your advertising patterns, so that people still feel they're engaging with humans rather than machines. This is a practice also standard, particularly with larger organizations with larger audiences than family-owned Canadian retailers.
What I'm saying is mostly an fyi to suggest those outcome phenomena are all explainable through Russian intervention, but I don't think it matters a great deal. I hope we focus more inwards on preventative education and developing critical thought and debate patterns in citizens, rather than naively thinking we can shut down undue thought influence in an era where everyone can communicate directly with everyone. The latter is a losing battle that American politicians seem vocal about winning.

Everyone is manipulable by media. These media campaigns can be very sophisticated. It’s naive to think you haven’t been influenced by these or similar campaigns in the past, and that you won’t be in the future.

I think we share a similar view, cincy, but what's concerning is the possibility that those easily fooled people would then be voting effectively as a proxy for a foreign body. Either: 1) Russia has meddled, and the US has a lack of critical thought problem which needs to be addressed, as people were being exploited to sway their voting patterns. Next critical step: fix the lack of critical thought with education reforms (don't try to fix thought control on the internet - that's impossible) 2) Russia has meddled, but because they're trying to control an intelligent population, they failed at producing anything but negligible influence. No next steps are needed
Alternatively, we can continue to distract from meaningful policy with discussions about what Russia's doing, as we inevitably ignore the quiet threats that sneak onto our radars like a Trojan horse (because after all, it's the US - when you possess global power, you are a target).

The Republicans went from hating Russia (remember Romney saying Russia was the biggest threat during his campaign) to accepting their meddling in the 2016 campaign. It took little to no time at all for the deep held resentment of Russia to vanish.

exactly. saying everyone who was 'stupid' by being manipulated by campaigns had better throw out all their name brand items. you really think you bought all of those because of their superior quality? no, in many cases, you were swayed, consciously or unconsciously, by their ad campaigns to convince you they were the best product, or the product you thought you had to have. it's no different than this. i think some think it is just because social media was the main target and they claim some intellectual high ground by not being on social media.
