Yeah probably but there's not going to be anything that can hurt Trump from a legal standpoint. I'm sure there will be stuff in the report that makes Trump look like a shady asshole (of course), but nothing more. That's why I don't get why people are suggesting that Barr is withholding anything significant. He had to know that the report would eventually be made public, so to lie in his summary would only hurt him.

Here's a question: if Mueller couldn't reach a conclusion on whether Trump colluded with Russia, isn't that the same as finding no evidence of collusion? "Not reaching a conclusion" is tantamount to there not being enough evidence in a murder trial. That's how OJ and Casey Anthony got off. For Mueller to say that he couldn't reach a conclusion, but also say that he won't exonerate Trump, would be like Judge Ito saying "Well the jury says not guilty so OJ is free to go, but you know as well as I do that he did it."

Sorry that Mueller let ya down so badly because I know you were among his biggest cheerleaders (you gave Rachel Maddow a run for her money).

It ain't over yet. Team Mueller punted and as of yet, we're not sure why. Was it because DOJ policy is not to indict a sitting POTUS? Was he directed by Barr to wrap it up? Or was there not enough evidence to convict in a court, thus punting to the House for impeachment, where the bar is lower? Again, all we have is a four page summary by a biased political appointee running a coverup. Rosenstein routinely charged defendants with obstruction despite not charging them with an underlying crime. Barr has successfully manuevered this from the legal realm to the political. I look forward to the house investigation and testimony on the hill. You can't say for certain whether Mueller let me down unless you've read the full report. And, there are still ongoing intelligence investigations, of which we know very little. This isn't over by a long shot.

When the full scope of the president’s misconduct has been revealed, when his lies are debunked and his abuses have been laid bare, I believe that members of Congress on both sides of the aisle will draft legislation to curb the worst of his offenses. Put another way: If President Trump’s behavior wasn’t criminal, then perhaps it should have been.

From a legal standpoint you are correct, for the one specific crime mueller investigated, with the one specific party outlined in Rosenstein's letter.

Congressional oversight is much broader. For example it appears they did not consider the legality of colluding with wikileaks. Although it's probably impossible to prove in court they operated at the direction of the Russian govt, they are a foreign national, with which I do believe it is illegal to campaign. We need the report in order to understand details like this.

The reason Barr is delaying in fact is to give Trump a victory lap to try to control the narrative. Given current polling, thankfully the majority still believes Trump is not in the clear on collusion. Thanks the Constitution is extremely clear regarding congressional authority over the executive branch

Impeachment is never going to happen no matter what the report says unless the Dems can flip the Senate and have enough votes. The house won't impeach him if the Senate can't get a conviction, per Pelosi.

My gut tells me that the Team Mueller Report is rich in detail.

Impeachment is never going to happen no matter what the report says unless the Dems can flip the Senate and have enough votes. The house won't impeach him if the Senate can't get a conviction, per Pelosi.

No I'm not trying to imply that you do or you don't. And frankly, of anybody I've seen talk about the Mueller report either on TV, on this board, or in person, I'd peg you as the most likely to read the entire thing. But I don't think that's going to be too common-place. I think a great deal of people, whether they're pro-Trump, anti-Trump, or indifferent, will rely on some sort of summary, be it in print, on something like Wikipedia, or from a cable news talking-head.

I think it's the attention span of people these days. I'm guilty of it myself in some instances.

About a week ago I was talking politics with a friend and I made reference to 1984. He had heard of the book, as well as terms like "Orwellian" and "thought-police" and seemed interested. I told him he should read it. He asked me if there was a movie. I told him there was a movie and it's a good supplement to the book from an imagery standpoint, but from a content standpoint, he needs to read the book. He said he'll check out the movie first and maybe read the book. Typical.

Reading the report is essential to understanding what the Trump campaign did. I do agree impeachment of Trump is highly unlikely, but if Barr redacts portions of the report from Congress, Impeaching the AG should be put on the table.

Barr would not be removed from office, but it's easier to push hard on Barr than it is on Trump, because Barr doesn't have 40% of the country blindly loyal to him. Cementing his legacy as a blind Trump protector would be punishment enough, if warranted.

Considering the 2018 memo Barr wrote to audition for this job, and the one sided treatment of this investigation, if anything significant is in Mueller's report that was omitted by Barr's letter, the house should go after Barr with the full force of the Constitution.

Impeachment is never going to happen no matter what the report says unless the Dems can flip the Senate and have enough votes. The house won't impeach him if the Senate can't get a conviction, per Pelosi.

Good point from the NY Times piece you linked, I wouldn't be surprised if there were act committed that aren't criminal, but should be.

And on the subject of Barr's summary, are you going to read the entire Mueller Report when it's released? The ENTIRE thing? Or are you going to read a summary from someone you trust more than Barr?

My gut tells me that the Team Mueller Report is rich in detail.

Nothing’s going to happen to your baffoon. And look, I’m on your side. I’d be more than happy seeing Trump dragged out of the White House in handcuffs. But nothing of the sort is going to happen. Mueller won’t indict as we know. The Dems don’t have enough votes in the Senate to get an impeachment conviction. So what else is there? More indictments for his cronies? Who cares about them? Bad press that could hurt him in the 2020 election? Every day he gets bad press. Accept the reality that the only way to get rid of him is to beat him in 2020, or maybe impeach if the Dems could get control of the Senate in 2020 or 2022.
