  • By far my favorite song on the album, and a top 5 PJ song for me overall. It's soothing, yet you feel the "needing" from Eddie's voice for the light....the way the music flows with the sound of his voice just balances it perfectly, and leaves you feeling as if you were floating on air..

Rubyness, thanks for making this thread...this song is truly beautiful in every way. I love the live verison where Eddie sings, 'your dream I see' you just can't help it but be optimistic. :D

And it DEFINITELY lifts up my spirits thanks to this song. Thank u JEFF for writing such a touching, beautiful, amazing song.:)

  • This is just such an amazing song. I remember, about a year and a half ago, I had just bought LATG, and it was around 2 in the morning, and the lights were all out, and the rest of the family was upstairs asleep. I was alone, and at the time, I was really lonely in a very personal way.
I Am Mine - another favourite - has come to a close, and Low Light starts.
I don't think any song will ever affect me as much as that song did at that particular time. It was actually the first time I had ever heard it, being somewhat youthful and inexperienced at the time.
Ever since then, any song that is described as emotional, or affecting has Low Light to equal. And nothing has ever come close.

For me, playing it on my guitar in a dark room, and just singing my heart out is incredibly cathartic when I'm in a bad mental place. It's like...
I don't know. I think you guys have expressed it a hell of alot more eloquently than I ever could.
Smokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.

I have made many a thread for this song that have now deceased, but it is soooooo wonderful to see a thread still alive for this gorgeous ass song. I can't put into words how much this song means to me. :o I'm gonna cry. haha. Really though....this is one of the most gorgeous works of PJ art out there!!!!!I made a thread back in 2003 for it begging that it be played more often and begging that I finally get to witness it live. I had a campaign and even put hours of work into a super glitterly pimped out LOW LIGHT sign. My life changed at MSG '03 in more ways then one. WHEN THIS SONG WAS UNLEASHED I LITERALLY COLLAPSED TO THE GROUND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My girl Meddledeal had to lift me up and screamed with joy "they're playing it!!!!!!!!" I couldn't believe it was actually happening and honestly still have a hard time believing it to this day. This feeling was like nothing else. A complete and total high...and out of body PJ experience to the extreme. Meddledeal helped me hold up my 2 part sign..."LOW" in the shape of a cloud and "LIGHT" in the shape of a sun. We held it up with over the top jubilation. Security guards came by and told us to take it down and I said "NO WAY!! You have NO IDEA what's happening right now!!!!" haha. We literally almost kicked out.

Anyways, I just can't stress this enough........this song reaches deep down inside me and stirs something up that I can't even place...I can't even put into words...it just GETS ME!!!! I am SO glad that it's popped up more AND that I got to experience the magic in '03. It meant TOO MUCH! JEFF did some serious overtime with this one. Wow. To have this captured on the DVD just extends the blessing even more. I'm glad there is "proof" that this really went down. I'm watching it RIGHT NOW and it never fails in completely taking over every inch of my being!!!!!!!! MAGIC! There are certain PJ songs that ooze a certain magical feeling and this is sooooooo one of them. ED changing the lyrics to "YOUR dream I see" too?!@? Come on!!! :o

Hard to imagine that it has been almost 3 years since we got this song @ MSG I and made its debut in Boston 2 (correct me if I am wrong)

thanks PJ and thanks Jeff for writing such a touching song...'YOUR dream I see'....amen(t) to that

  • Back about two, maybe three years ago I was writing a screenplay. And this song was going to close the movie for me (In my dreams that I would also direct it and thus have creative control). Cuz the main character would finally realize that he doesn't need the girl he's been after and now can see life without her. The whole movie he rejects anyone else because he always thought they were meant to be together, blind to the fact that she just used him over and over again. Plus I always thought it would be great to end a movie with this song.

sorry if i'm wrong, but your movie sounds depressing. did you not finish the screen-play? i do agree low light would be a sweet song to end a movie or an opera or whatever you wanna call dramatizations or cinema and whatnot--i mean shit, these lyrics are masterful and the melody is so subtle yet supple and harmonious:

    Clouds roll by.
    "Reeling," is what they say.
Or is it just my way?
    Wind blows by.

    Low light. Sidetracked. Low light.
Can't see my tracks your scent way back.

Can I be here all alone?
Clear a path to my home.
    Blood runs dry.

Books and jealousy tell me wrong.
    I will feel calm.
    Poise blows by.

Low light. Car crash. Low light.
Can wear my mask. Your first my last.

    Voice goes by.
Two birds is what they'll see getting lost upon their way.
    Wind rolls by.

Low light. Eye sight. Low light.
I need the light. I'll find my way from wrong.
What's real? The dream I see.

if you ask me the song seems much more an allusion to happy endings than it does mistaken dreams/thoughts of a particular love...

    but hey, that's just me.
    i'm a thief... and a liar...

    see Ed's church?--he's breathing fire.....

I've said this before a number of times in other posts, but this song reminds me of a car crash that happened when I was young (I wasn't in it). My brother's best friend was sleeping on the back seat of his car on the way home from a party that his mum and stepdad went to one night. It was a rainy night and their car went off the road, down a steep bank. My brother's friend was thrown from the car half way down(because the windows were down and he was not wearing a seat belt) and survived. Apparently his stepdad died instantly but his mum was still alive. They think she got out of the car to look for her son. People heard her calling out for him, but she must have collapsed or something and she drowned in the flood water. (this part reminds me of "Low light. Sidetracked. Low light.
Can't see my tracks your scent way back." because she was searching for her son in the dark)

Pretty obvious what the following reminds me of...
"Low light. Car crash. Low light.
Cant wear my mask. Your first my last".
(His life is just beginning, while hers is ending)

but the main reason this song reminds me of that event is because they lady who died had told her friend that if she was reincarnated she would want to be an eagle and at her and her husband's funeral two eagles flew over head....

    "Voice goes by.
Two birds is what they'll see getting lost upon their way.
    Wind rolls by."
  • Pacifier, very intense. I see your association.

Soooo true. Always loved this song (Jeffs lyrics, I think). But, today, a friend lend me Benaroya for the first time, and yes... It gets grand, special, extremely well sang. I was up lifted.
Whenever I hear this song, I just imagine myself in a road trip, sun fading away, laid back, free and finnaly at peace. It's one of my fav get-away songs.

This is just an amazing song to play when you're driving home from work in the dark...just so soothing and relaxing and in the dark the subtle, emotive lyrics just fill the blackness outside...and it means i can sing along to my heart's content and people can't look in my car and see me doing so...good ol' darkness...
