I’ll be okay with zero EV or PJ shows until new music is released by one or both. I love the shows and the live experience is second to none, but with no new music it does feel like full blown legacy act territory. Not trying to be negative. Just the reality.
Pearl Jam is not a legacy act. A legacy act is when you go see the one guy from hermans hermits at a casino or on a cruise. New music would be nice, but I am perfectly fine with Pearl Jam performing songs from their current catalog.

If we don't see PJ tour in 2019 than they really have hit semi-retirement. I always assumed rather than doing huge 80 date world tours every three years and then taking two year breaks that they would just tour 20 dates a year. But if they take 2017 off and 2019 off, then they really can't really have any less activity.
Might as well count 2015 as well minus the small SA tour.
Careful gents, we don't want to lose the tour rumor thread
pj has only played 62 shows in the last 4 years... only 29 of those shows were in the US, and out of those 29, 11 of those were stadium shows (8 at wrigley and fenway alone), 4 were at festivals, one was at third man records, and one was the rock n roll hall of fame show (the only show they played in 2017)... so take those away, and they have only played 12 shows in the US in the last 4 years... 12 shows... so that kinda puts things into perspective...
so sadly i think festivals and stadium shows will be the future of pj shows, with people willing to travel to see them and with the money they make on merch alone, i don't see that changing, with the exception of maybe a new album, where the tour would most likely be similar to what the 2013/2014 tour was with lightning bolt... so the ed solo shows make sense, why play for 3 hours and scream when you can go on vacation with your family and play short, quiet acoustic shows in small venues and make money on the merch... then play a couple stadium shows and festivals and make an insane amount of money on merch... hoping that's not true, but it's just my observation...

These lines really sum up what is going on in the pearl jam world: “It’d be fun to record or even just write a song together,” bassist Jeff Ament says. Ament says. “We’re just sort of in a little bit of limbo. I’m sure everybody’s got a bunch more riffs, and I’m sure Ed’s got a handful of journal lyrics. It’s just going to take us all getting into a room together for six weeks and just knocking something out.” "This is a broken record, but I think I’ve said that I would record a lot more with Pearl Jam if that was what could happen. It just hasn’t happened for some reason.”
The last quote at the bottom is very telling.
What’s Eddie up to these days. What’s the reason?
i will probably get a lot of shit for what im about to say but i think Ed (and to an extend PJ because none of the rest of the band wants to "rock the boat" and take the control of the band from Ed) has become what they were fighting against being in the 90´s.
Im not talking anything from the lastest albums , hell i love Lightning Bolt but something radically changed in 2006/2007 within the band. From mini-tours (the 2009 european tour is the main proof ) to the huge increase in price tickets , lack of comunication with the fan club and lost of stuff members get (see x-mas single).
To be fair, charging $125 for FOH seats is by far the best deal in high demand live rock shows.
But these seats are restricted from 99% of music fans.

I will preface this by saying that I am not a smart man, but isn't some combination of Outside Lands, Kaaboo, Life is Beautiful and then Ohana Festival the obvious answer here? When was the last show in SoCal? 2014? Throw in a 2 night stand at The Forum (assuming the festivals don't have geography restrictions) and you are pretty much there.
Some of the best shows this band has put on in years. I went to all 3 and was miles away and still had a blast. That said bring back more arena shows and do 3 nights if you have to.

Agree. Was at all 5 Wrigleys and both Seattle, and they've been incredible shows (because of the band). Of course I'd rather they do a full tour of arenas and sheds, but the ballpark performances have been epic.
I want a new album before any new tour dates, preferably a US arena tour. Would like a tour with some places the band hasn't played before or in a long while;

Every ballpark show has felt like a special occasion. Playing Wrigley and Fenway, historic venues in favorite cities, isn't a problem. If they start playing ballparks in random cities then I will agree with calls for no more stadium shows.

I agree new music is not required at least for PJ as a whole. Based on the stats app they played 149 unique songs last year averaging 28 songs per show. That means they have enough material to play 5 shows without repeating a single song. Obviously there are some repeats but the point is they have more than enough material.
The last thing they should do is force new music if it isn't forthcoming to the standard they have produced in the past.
Re ballparks, certainly it is not ideal, but it's much better than nothing, and it does offer triple the odds of getting tickets compared to arenas, and is superior to festivals. Seattle 2 was phenomenal last year.
Anyway we need some news!

This is how I feel too. I will never go to a ballpark show.
Having only done the Home Shows (in terms of ballpark shows), if you don't have to travel far or its the only real option like last year, if you can get pit its totally worth it. If you're in the stands I'd say meh. I had stands the first night and with it being my first Pearl Jam show after many failed attempts it felt like a religious experience however being in the pit for night 2 made it clear I wouldn't do reserved seating for a ballpark ever again.

My concern for future Aus shows, if and when we get some, is that they’ll again play one off stadium shows like 2009. Hey I’ll take anything, but part of me wants to be greedy and have 2-3 smaller shows per city. I’d love to see a non album tour but my guess is we won’t get one until a new album drops, Par for the course.
I was at the first and best ballpark Show, Wrigley 2013....
STOP WITH THE BALLPARK SHOWS
PS I am all for a full tour if they only decide to play ballparks/stadiums. 20ish shows spread all over the USA in that sort of venue if that is what they decide I am cool with(much rather prefer traditional stadium/pavilion shows). For the love of gawd, stop with the only playing ballpark shows in less than 5 cities shit. Yawn.
