  • People suck. Scotch it is
There is enough good bourbon out there.  While those crazy fuckers are hunting down overpriced Col Taylor and Blanton's I will enjoy my Buffalo Trace, Wild Turkey, Chattanooga, Clyde Mays, Backbone, etc. :)

Yep.  If I'm at a store and happen to see something hard to find I'll obviously buy it but I'm not running around like an asshole or paying the absurd prices some of these bottles go for.  I'm more than happy drinking Buffalo Trace, Michter's and Woodford Reserve on the regular.

Way too many bourbon hawks out there these days.  It's been this way for years, but it's at an all time high around me.  6-7 dudes were waiting in the store for new inventory to be released yesterday within minutes of when the delivery truck arrived.  I just happened to be driving by and I know that deliveries happen on Wednesday, so it was dumb luck for me to be there at the right time.  These guys are all on social media groups where someone posts to notify the hawks to start swarming when one of the stores in the Chicago area (it is a chain) gets anything good.  It is ridiculous.  I don't have the time or energy for it, nor am I on FB, Reddit, etc. groups, so any good stuff I get I'll consider to be right place, right time.
same...I joined a bourbon group in my area and it's amazing. These people just hit several stores a day.

About a year ago a guy was at Meijer when they stocked six bottles of Blanton's. He bought all six right then.

It's an odd OCD type thing.
Blanton's is hardly rare but the bourbon community turned it in to a commodity.

Bourbon Bros is funny.  We usually just call them "taters".

Tonight is supposed to be a nice night.  I think I'll open a bottle I have been waiting on w a cigar and light a fire since this weekend looks shot.
Blanton's is rare around here (Indy). I have never seen it on a shelf.
It's "rare" everywhere now.  People love buying retail and flipping it.  It's so dumb.

  • Ken Taylor did some art for the Diageo Legends Untold series. Are these coveted scotch whiskeys? Not sure if these haven't made it to the US yet or if they ever will, but wanted to get the group consensus on if the liquid in the bottle is worth the price of admission for these.

Odds are pretty good that these are still sitting n a shipping container on a dock in Aberdeen. Might be months before they make it stateside.

Anyone able to find Makers FAE-02 yet? FAE-01 and the rest of the wood finishing series has been excellent so far.

Haven't seen one yet.  They are usually pretty easy to come by, but nothing so far.  I really dig their finishing series releases!
I'm also waiting on ECBP C921.  Heard they should be trickling in soon.
  • Local spot had Blantons for $130.  I told him they sell for $60.  He tells me that is what the secondary market charges.  I replied I am not the secondary market, I'm your customer.

Thanks. I know I’ll find one eventually, I just want it sooner rather than later haha

That’s one of my favorite bottles. $55 is fair. I’d recommend it even at $70.

Lol that’s insane. I’d pay $35 at most.

This summer I bought a bottle of New Riff 6 Year Malted Rye in Louisville and gifted it to my friend for a housewarming. Ended up leaving before the bottle was cracked- oops! Just found it in NY. Excited to try this weekend.

Mike, I doubt this is the case, but if it is one of the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection bottles then rush back there and buy it.  I don't think they've hit shelves yet, but it would not say Buffalo Trace on the bottle.  It would be Thomas H. Handy, William Larue Weller or Eagle Rare 17 (all Buffalo Trace Antique).  If it is just a regular BT bottle, tell that dude he is high and it's a $30 bottle.  LOL

  • I will pay you $100 if you can find a William LaRue Weller Antique bottle for cost.

This is one bottle I really want.  Slim chance I know as if any of you fine people find it for that you'd most likely want to drink it...

But oh well.  I will look.

Yeah, we need more info!  hahaha  If it's a BTAC, but I really doubt it was....get in the car and head back there.
Reg Buffalo Trace shouldn't be more than $30.  It's in the mid-$20s here and can be found at every grocery store.  It's a good bottle at retail.
If it's a store pick, then maybe $40-50.

That's what I mean.  Something doesn't add up here.  Buffalo Trace doesn't sell at prices above retail so I'm curious what it was for $112.

A laphoraig  25 would be my ultimate splurge but I don’t think you can go wrong with your choice.  What about a macallan 21? Pretty similar in price.

Bushmills doesn’t look to be available in PA so those are a good call. The laphroaig is enticing and this may be the occasion. I do love laphroaig, as has been documented here
  • Picked these up yesterday. Never tried 'em before. MSRP is really high for these bottles; $170/rye and $155/bourbon. I sure hope they're worth it...

They’re both delicious in my opinion. Single barrels so there could be some variance, but I’ve had multiple years and enjoyed them all. I also think they’re overpriced, but worth the splurge nonetheless.
