They better cash in while they can. The tide is turning on expensive bourbon.Bentleyspop said:For those of you with disposable income and cash to burn....

Had an opportunity to buy a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle for $1k today. I didn't end up getting it.
The same store had A Midwinter Nights Dram for $300 and a Bookers in the wooden box for $119.00. Pretty reasonable prices on most of the more common stuff in there.
They had four or five different Calumet Farms of different ages. Are any of them worth picking up?If hope can grow from dirt like me, it can be done. - EV0 -

Midwinters nights dram should be under $200.
Not sure this place is your friend w those prices...0 -
I didn't even ask which Pappy it was. I knew the MND was overpriced too. They had Woodford Double Oaked for $55.00 which is the lowest price I've ever seen on that. Four Roses Single Barrel was $45.00.tempo_n_groove said:

I ended up leaving empty handed that time but that's where I'll go when I need WR Double Oaked or Four Roses again. If hope can grow from dirt like me, it can be done. - EV0 -
I just saw Midwinters nights dram for $150, near me. Still overpriced.Pine Knob Music Theatre - Jul 31, 1992 Crisler Arena - Mar 20, 1994

I'm glad you didn't get it. Even if it was the 23, that's 2x+ MSRP. Midwinters has become such a joke IMO. It legit was good whiskey back when High West was more or less independent. Good bottle, decent price...I still have 3 of them from those days. There are currently 8-9 of Midwinters sitting on the shelf at my local grocery store, and that's been the case for months now. Overpriced, not as good.dudeman said:Had an opportunity to buy a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle for $1k today. I didn't end up getting it.

Bookers is also entirely overpriced for the quality you get. Pass everytime IMO.
Calumet is solid. I have the 14 and the 16. If I could find a 18 for MSRP, I would buy one, one time. Beautiful bottle and i've heard nothing but amazing things about it.0 -
Great information! Thanks. All of the Calumet bottles they had were between $70 and $100. I assume the older age statements were the more expensive ones. I will probably get one to try.mca47 said:

I also found Still Austin The Musician Cask Strength for $59. The regular one is really good so I'll probably grab a bottle of that too.

Any Bulleit drinkers here?0
-
I drink it from time to time. It's definitely one of the higher rye bourbons out there. I think it's close to 30% rye in their mash bill. To me, it's like an even spicier Woodford.pearldavidson said:Any Bulleit drinkers here?0 -
It's my go to "maintenance" bourbon. I think it's pretty solid.markymark550 said:

Woodford is my go to and it's about 20% rye, so I completely understand liking the spicier bourbons. I really like Bulleit in cocktails. I think it's great in an Old Fashioned.pearldavidson said:

I never knew Bulleit was that high in rye. It just goes down smooth for me. I drink it to avoid using my harder to find stuff. Trace, Rare, Blanton's. Also sitting on a Japanese bourbon that was aged 12 years. I received that as a gift a few years ago.markymark550 said:

Also, I see that you are from the Palmetto State. I am a HHI enthusiast to say the least lol. Love that place.markymark550 said:

Yep, grew up in the upper part of the state and moved to Columbia when I went to U of SC and never left. HHI is very nice, but I don't get down there that often. When we go to the beach, it's usually to Edisto, which is about halfway between HHI and Charleston on the coastline.pearldavidson said:

First time I tried Bulleit, I double checked the label because I thought I had picked up a rye by accident lol.
Japanese whiskeys are hit and miss for me. I've been able to try probably ten or so from being in Flaviar (fun if you have the income to spare, but not really worth the value imo). A couple were good, but more of them had a very medicinal taste to them imo.0 -
It's not. That is a fair price. For all the overpriced booze out there it is worth the 150. That's my op though as I enjoy it.BIGDaddyWil said:I just saw Midwinters nights dram for $150, near me. Still overpriced.0 -
Last years was the highest rated since Act 4 I believe. Last years was exceptional. The other years I could see why you'd be angry at the price.mca47 said:

The pre-sale estimates for this whiskey collection started at around $1.17 million, but the final sale price more than doubled that figure, coming in at over $2.5 million. All 360 lots in the collection sold in the live auction — held January 24, 2026, in New York City — with 89% of the lots exceeding the high-end of their pre-auction estimates.Post edited by Bentleyspop on0 -
After I watched that video I knew that stuff was going to go for big money. I had thought it was stuff made in the past few years.Bentleyspop said:Bentleyspop said:For those of you with disposable income and cash to burn....

Most of that was Stitzel so you know it was going to be high.0 -
I bought a bottle of Woodford Reserve Double Oaked today. $60.00. That stuff is damn good and makes me question why I would spend more than that on a bottle of bourbon.
There is so much good stuff that is affordable and not allocated, it almost makes it seem like cheating. If hope can grow from dirt like me, it can be done. - EV0
