The promotion is a racket, the best fighters rarely fight in their primes anymore, and there hasn't been a truly compelling boxer in decades.
This is the final nail in the sport's coffin, either way.
McGregor has a better chance than any boxing fan wants to admit. His boxing style is not something Mayweather has ever faced, and his power is legitimate.
He's inside Mayweather's head already, could he pull off a rope a dope?
How does he have a chance?
He doesn't punch from the pocket, for one.
He's got power Mayweather hasn't faced in years, and his MMA intensity is different from boxing.
Intensity lol. He'll be dead 9 minutes in
What if he stands there with his chin out, hotdogging and taunting Mayweather? He knows Mayweather can't knock him out, so he waits until the boos start falling and frustrated Mayweather gets inside his MMA zone? What then?
That's what he should do.
If Mayweather doesn't engage he goes down as a chicken, there's no risk there for McGregor.0 -

Mayweather is not a good human being. Clearly.
No way he loses this fight.
No. Way.
Love reading about how Vegas is sweating how much they should lay off. Hedging is an important part of protecting the casinos but when every sharp is convinced Floyd cannot lose there could be a huge flurry of money late. Only huge bet on Floyd I saw so far was the Maloof brothers.
I'm traveling to a baseball tournament this weekend/next week so I do not know if people will be watching. I will be checking my phone at the least. I would love to see Floyd knock him out but expect he dances his way to an easy points victory. As much as I would laugh if Floyd lost, I hate MMA smack talk on Boxing. Watch how an in his prime MMA fighter boxes a well past his prime Boxing legend.
The odds are amazing right now at -400. It should be -4000000. -400 is his odds against a a good boxer.
Odds are crazy since everybody in the world is betting McGregor. A lot more fun to root for the crazy, cocky, shit-talking fucker than that lowlife, wife-beating piece of trash.0 -

Boxing is a goofy endeavour to begin with, and the history is clear on boxers when they have to fight a complete fight. They can't.
Mayweather Pacquiao was boxing's last legitimate breath, Mayweather McGregor is the death rattle.
There are people saying boxing may never draw a million PPV again.
Not sure I agree, but the numbers don't look good for pugilism.Monkey Driven, Call this Living?0 -

Mayweather is driving the money in the fight though. What's the biggest UFC purse ever?

Also, I have been so confused as to what McGregor's plan would be after this fight but it is now clear.
He is 100% boxing another retired boxer

The most likey outcome is another defensive snoozefest by mayweather that gets him a win in 12 rounds. Or, mcgregor gets gassed and loses by TKO in mid-late rounds. No chance Mayweather KOs him imo.
Or, mcgregor KOs mayweather early. He's proven his doubters wrong on many occasions. Floyds defensive wizardry is against orthodox boxers. Mcgregor s style will be anything but orthodox and could allow the unexpected to happen.
i want a mcgregor KO in the worst way, but if I was betting, I'd bet on a mayweather win in a snoozefest.
What integrity? Boxing is an absolute joke.0 -
Hmmmmmmmmm, well perhaps it's going to be a worse week for UFC than it is for boxing.

I think the only "pure" boxing you're going to find these days is in the lower levels with guys who are trying to make it. Other than that, it's all about money. And that's all that this fight is...2 guys putting on a show and making a shitload of money.
Also, the fact that there are like 7 different champions for every weight class isn't helping things either....WBA, WBO, WBC, etc....it's ridiculous. Maybe if it was more centralized, it would be easier to actually keep up with.0 -

I'll keep saying it, but Canelo and GGG should be an awesome fight. Andre Ward is an awesome dude and a great fighter. Terrence Crawford is legit. I have liked Rigondeaux for years. Mikey Garcia is a great dude.
This is a pretty solid list of good fighters in the top 10. Boxing just does it's self no favors with how corrupt and watered down it is and it has had so many dud PPV fights over the past decade, largely due to Mayweather. There are awesome fights on Showtime maybe once a month that get so little attention.

The sport needs another American star that is fun to watch. If it gets one, it will be fine. If it doesn't, it's in trouble.

To each their own.
On the last page you claimed it had been decades since there was an intriguing fighter (or compelling or some word like that, I forget)
Anyone can agree that Boxing is in a sad spot right now as far as viewer attention. I think it has been less than 2 decades since we had a great list of fighters. My favorite from the early 2000s was Roy Jones Jr. Amazing boxer. There is a long list of boxers who were fun and popular around that time.
The standard MMA line of Boxers not standing a chance in their sport? Duh. It is a different sport. We dont expect volleyball players to be awesome basketball players, despite the fact that they are both tall and play with a round ball.
The same stands for MMA fighters stepping into the ring with Boxers. We are going to see what happens when a Champion MMA fighter tries to box an over the hill Boxing legend.
It is a different sport. The only reason people feel the need to repeat this over and over now ("Conor would destroy Floyd in the 'Octagon'") is that Conor has worked extremely hard to collect a real Boxing sized paycheck and entered a Ring where he has very little chance to win. It is a silly thing to say -- it is so obvious.
Hats off to Conor, btw, for working the hype machine and realizing his fortune. Maybe he gets lucky and Floyd breaks his hand with the smaller gloves. Maybe he is able to land a haymaker. It has happened before so there is a small chance for him to pull off the miracle.
As far as the 'in his head' remark above -- there is one simple reason that Floyd wanted this fight. 100+ million dollars.
He owes a large % of that to the government since he stupidly didn't pay his taxes after his last fight. This is his way to pay that bill to the IRS without liquidating any of his assets. (And it is a way that he finds entertaining and low risk.)

At 10 seconds when he flops him over you can see the dude already was crapping himself.
Funny stuff.
I don't think we expect any fat, out of shape, lardos on Shaturday.
