Second, it's not the same because during Iraq, there were plenty of guard called up to support the effort and they were in the forward areas. Third, the US has lost 3 lives in Syria. I'm not diminishing the value of three lives, but it's not an apt comparison to Iraq.

Not really. Guard is different. I don't know for sure, but I'm not aware of another war where we called up national guard to fight in a forward area on foreign soil. If I'm wrong, then I'll retract the previous statement.

I referred to race because it is an overly white and aged populace that make up his base. Also, more disproportionately likely to be affected by a government shutdown. 50% of Americans aren't in the stock market so maybe his base won't even notice nor care? You might want to bag a few deers, gooses, ducks and wild bores and hunker down in your bunker when it all finally goes down.
Eventually, the shorts will cover (some already have), probably over a period of two to three days, causing a rally (of sorts). But I don't think it will be enough to make up the losses. That has to come organically.
