it was only he and I in the room, and regretably, I was too shocked to say anything. I have learned from that experience to immediately call it out for what it is.

And being in the situation he is (having trumps support and up against a black liberal)...I tend to think he meant to say it and knew it could be taken 2 ways. I think he wants white supporters to see the reaction to a phrase I’m sure lots have used and not meant as racist (lots of older white people). He wanted them to see people go crazy and call him a racist right off the bat. Just my thought though. I think he played the people on this one.
