I haven't read a single story or editorial on it so maybe there's a very Trumpian rationale, but I'm surprised by it.
    I don't know.  He has indicated in his tenure that he was okay with torture and he certainly doesn't see killing brown people the same as killing white people.  I honestly think this is as much about his racist beliefs as some nod to neocons or that he thinks they were justified in the assault.

    trump vetoes National Defense Authorization Act. Unfortunately for him, the bill passed both houses with supermajorities that allow them to override the veto, if they choose to vote again next week against the veto.

    I don't even think it would be about his chance at a second term as much as 1) some of them just love to make him happy and/or are scared of a mean tweet and 2) the GOP base is still in Trump Cult form and that's who they're trying to please.
