They will have a story about how he pays his taxes in other ways or how real estate shell games exclude him as it will be as over as him calling the soldiers losers or anything else.
There are a lot of small business owners who paid their taxes and are or have run out of PPP.  It’s not a good look but it won’t impact Team Trump Treason’s deplorable base. They’re way too far gone down the rabbit hole, flushed, you might say.

Trump didn't pay income tax for 10 of 15 years before 2016 election

If this is right,  then Biden needs to have this in his opening statement.  I think it's a big deal.

Unfortunately, that’s probably the only angle that will even register.  That he didn’t pay taxes because he is a colossal fuck up and lost more money then he made.  His biggest hang up is not being a loser.  This will probably only annoy him in that regard but won’t change anyone who’s still planning to vote for him because if they are still with him after everything the last 4 years this won’t change anything.  And we’ll all forget about in 2 days because something else even more repulsive will come up and take all the attention.

I dunno, does not paying taxes really resonate as a big thing with american voters? i'd think that would be cause for admiration, not condemnation.

Admiration when a repub is in office...unacceptable when a Dem is in office.  The hypocrisy is deafening.

tRumpsters love to talk about leaches on society.  Takers that pay no tax yet receive welfare, etc.

If I were advising Biden I would have him hammer the "I can't release my returns because they are under audit" thing 24/7.  We know that the IRS has already stated that there is nothing stopping him from releasing returns.  If tRump wants to say he can't release them then the first question is "why won't you release the returns that are NOT under audit?"  The IRS can only audit open tax years, generally the last three years of returns.  The only reason that returns older than three years would be under audit would be if the IRS suspects or is investigating fraud.  Biden needs to press him on that and either make him admit that the IRS is examining him for fraud or to prove the NYT wrong and release his returns.

This.  I think a lot of the base loves this.  Because it bugs the libs and that's what matters.

I personally am not sure this is as big of a story as some people make it out to be.  Apparently, it's pretty much legal...the depreciation on the buildings leads to tax credits.  It's probably more of a condemnation on our tax laws than it is on him. And working class conservatives loving tax laws that are friendly to the rich?  That's not new.

It's more than that.  Depreciation would allow you to offset income but it isn't likely going to create massive losses that offset all of your other income.  At a minimum it shows that he is NOT successful.

Depreciation can be manipulated to obtain the best tax advantage.  The best tax strategy for tRump would be to pay tax every year and use up the 10%-24% tax brackets and push depreciation forward to offset large income years being taxed at 36% or higher.

That he has those massive losses shows that it is not a planning strategy....he's losing his ass.

I think we're going to find out some day that it was all very illegal. There is a lot of evidence out there of him cooking the books. Saying stuff is worth a lot more/or less when it suits him.

Trump Inc podcast has done extensive research into this. As has the NYT.

yeah, i just don't see this moving the needle even with undecideds. many people, not just republicans, view legal but ethically ambiguous tax evasion as something to be proud of. sure, paying ivanka as a consultant seems shady, but is it illegal? this would likely take down a mayor or city councilor, but the president? more importantly, THIS president?

trump's take will likely hit it home: i didn't pay much tax because i'm smart.

Biden needs to press him on that and either make him admit that the IRS is examining him for fraud or to prove the NYT wrong and release his returns.
yeah, i just don't see this moving the needle even with undecideds. many people, not just republicans, view legal but ethically ambiguous tax evasion as something to be proud of. sure, paying ivanka as a consultant seems shady, but is it illegal? this would likely take down a mayor or city councilor, but the president? more importantly, THIS president?

trump's take will likely hit it home: i didn't pay much tax because i'm smart.
This will hurt him but not by much.  If there are any undecideds out there they might be affected...or it might cause some of his diehards to stay home on Nov 3rd.

The Ivanka thing isn't a big deal.  He paid her for "consulting" and as long as she picked it up as income on her return it's totally legal.

Guess I need to see this play out a bit, but I'll be disappointed in anyone that isn't upset that Trump pays significantly lower taxes then them.

That said, businesses create jobs and products that lead to income tax and sales tax so I can understand why they should get some tax advantages.  But I think we all know this isn't the case we are talking about with trump.

I dunno, does not paying taxes really resonate as a big thing with american voters? i'd think that would be cause for admiration, not condemnation.

That's not Trumps take though. He says it's fake news.

He's hiding those returns because they show lots of illegal activity.

Pivot and release the returns or just tell us what's on them? No way he releases them. Doesn't want anyone to be able to go into them in detail. He's more afraid of going to jail than not getting elected.
