These aren't drafted soldiers.  This is the career they chose.  It's not the same argument as in past wars.

There's some truth to this post.

Soldiers doing soldierly things isn't the crux of the issue. Whether or not the US (or any foreign country) should be intervening is the heart of the debate.

If the border is so tight... then why is a wall necessary? It seems like things are well under control.

He regularly contradicts himself and then contradicts his contradiction on a daily basis. It's tough to keep up with his idiocy.

I don’t think he’s an idiot if people keep listening to his garbage. There are other idiots responsible for that.

Yes, and considering the slaughter of the Syrian people, the risk ISIS posed to us and to the Kurds, I'm okay with 2k soldiers being deployed there, but not indefinitely.

That reminds me of W's defenders when he was sending soliders all over the Middle East 15 years ago.  Just because they are volunteers doesn't mean we should use them cavalierly.

Cavalierly is the key...  That's not what is happening here.  They actually have a purpose, not one made up by neocons.  Second, it's not the same because during Iraq, there were plenty of guard called up to support the effort and they were in the forward areas.  Third, the US has lost 3 lives in Syria.  I'm not diminishing the value of three lives, but it's not an apt comparison to Iraq.

You know, I don't entirely know.  And my comment was actually meant to go right at the "it's a volunteer military" narrative than anything.  I have just never felt comfortable with that arguement because I believe its logical conclusion is to promote using them cavalierly.

Not really.  Guard is different.  I don't know for sure, but I'm not aware of another war where we called up national guard to fight in a forward area on foreign soil.   If I'm wrong, then I'll retract the previous statement.

Stock market down another 400+ points. How's that tax cut working out for you? Merry Christmas, suckers.
I’m young, the way it works out for me is that I get stocks on sale now :)
Not so well for his overly white, old base in retirement or approaching it. More brilliant brilliance in all its brilliancy. The Syrian pullout, the wall funding demand, his attacks on Lindsey and leaving Corker out in the cold? He's ensuring there will be a conviction in the senate. Its hilarious watching a rat lash out and those still defending him. Won't be long until its just Team Trump Treason and Ghouliani. Any over/under on the number of days until flames are spotted in the third floor windows of the White House? SO MUCH WINNING!
Hopefully old people (of all races) have their eggs in more conservative baskets regarding the stock market.
Not sure I have enough bags of popcorn for when it all finally goes down.  May even have to resubscribe to cable!
I referred to race because it is an overly white and aged populace that make up his base. Also, more disproportionately likely to be affected by a government shutdown. 50% of Americans aren't in the stock market so maybe his base won't even notice nor care? You might want to bag a few deers, gooses, ducks and wild bores and hunker down in your bunker when it all finally goes down.
Eventually, the shorts will cover (some already have), probably over a period of two to three days, causing a rally (of sorts). But I don't think it will be enough to make up the losses. That has to come organically.

My best guess is that this sort-covering rally will come before the end of the year. It won't be a Santa Claus-type rally, but the arrow will be green for a few days before more volatility ensues.

trump tweets the democrats now own the shutdown.

schumer tweets back "You own the shutdown—your own words, @realDonaldTrump. The Senate UNANIMOUSLY passed a bipartisan solution to avoid a shutdown. Then you threw another temper tantrum and convinced the House to ignore that compromise"
