You know, without all the other nonsense, I would see this as a good thing. He scheduled it there, got backlash, re-evaluated and changed direction. He doesn't do that very often. Too little too late though for sure.

so give him credit for not breaking a federal law? standards are so low now
I love how he tweeted that they would start the search for a new location....after Mulvaney said they did a search and determined Doral was the best place of all the ones they looked at.
And his tweet also suggested that it was ridiculous to deny Doral because he was going to do it at cost or even free "if permissable". Give me a fucking break. Mulvaney never said anything about that at his presser.
Free I could handle....but there was no way that fucker planned on doing it for free.

Standards are very low. I just mean him taking criticism and making a change. Doesn't happen very often. To be honest I was surprised by it.

so was I. I figured for sure he'd come up with "actually saving the tax payers money" because all the other locations were more expensive or some BS excuse.

Team Trump Treason would have written it off on his taxes as a business loss.
It wasnt the "fake news media" that made him change. It was his pal the Judge. On Air...
Napolitano said, “The Constitution does not address profits, it
addresses any present, as in a gift, any emolument as in cash of any
kind whatever. I’m quoting the Emoluments Clause, from any king, prince
or foreign state. So if this were a meeting of the governors of the
United States, there would be no problem. The purpose of the Emoluments
Clause is to keep the president of the United States of America from
profiting off of foreign money, here we go again, not in the campaign
but in some event or entity that he controls or is running. He has
bought himself an enormous headache now with the choice of this. This is
about as direct and profound a violation of the Emoluments Clause as
one could create.”
He added, “Most respectfully, Mr. Mulvaney’s focus on profit, while
it may make sense in the economic world, is not what the Framers were
concerned about. They were concerned about a gift or cash coming
directly or indirectly to the president of the United States, even if
it’s done at a loss. Now, the president owns shares of stock in a
corporation that is one of the owners of this, along with many other
investors. He also owns shares of stock in the corporation that manages
it. So those corporations will receive a great deal of money from
foreign heads of state because this is there. That’s exactly, exactly
what the Emoluments Clause was written to prohibit.”

As was I...that said, I kinda see pjhawks's point...the president saying "I wont' hold this at my resort" in itself is not praiseworthy.

The main difference here is the criticism came from Republicans, mostly behind the scenes.
