This is too hard, there are too many great Australian albums! Here's part of my list (limiting to only one album per band)

Double Allergic- Powderfinger (hardest choice, too many great albums)
    Frogstomp- Silverchair
    Cruel Guards- The Panics
Ivy & the Big Apples- Spiderbait
    Tea & Sympathy- Bernard Fanning
The Living End- The Living End
    Making Mirrors- Gotye

The next three I can't decide on. I have too many favorites including: Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit- Courtney Barnett; Breed Obsession- Gyroscope; Birds of Tokyo- Birds of Tokyo; Hourly Daily- You am I; Kick- INXS, Positions- Gang of Youths; Leave your soul to Science- Something for Kate; Chimneys Afire- Josh Pyke; Awake is the New Sleep- Ben Lee; Moo you Bloody Choir- Augie March; Temple of Low Men- Crowded House; Guide to Better Living-Grinspoon; Gravity Won't Get You High- The Grates; Highway to Hell- ACDC. I was also recently introduced to Karnivool and I'm loving Themata and Sound Awake. Oh I forgot Tough Love -Magic Dirt. I'm sure I've forgotten many others.

I struggled massively, and left some great albums out. I can't believe I left out Tea and Sympathy - I must have worn that album out when it was released. Forgot about Grinspoon, the Living End Debut is killer and I loved Sunset Studies by Augie March (There's no such place is a beautiful song)

I was stuck on which Powderfinger album to pick and went with Internationalist. Double Allergic was my runner up though. Same with Silverchair, although I think Diorama is there best work, Frogstomp was such a cool album

I'll ride the wave where it takes me

Whilst doing some stuff around the house on Saturday, The Powderfinger catalogue got a good work out. Double Allergic is such a good album, as was the Mr Kneebone EP

I don't think I've heard the Mr Kneebone EP. Was that their first? This thread has been lots of fun....ashame it's slowed down.

I had an Aussie music weekend and I also pulled out Powderfinger, and Silverchair, Gotye, Gyroscope, Karnivool and Spiderbait.

Mr Kneebone was released later - Transfusion was their second EP in about 93 and then their first album, Parables for Wooden Ears came out in 94. They signed a record deal and then tried to change their sound to suit the grunge explosion on their first album, it's got a few good songs on it, but not really recognisable as "Powderfinger" compared to everything from Double Allergic. Thankfully they went back to doing what they do best when writing Double Allergic.

Here's a link to part one of a doco/interview and they talk about the first album about half way through

Thanks for the video...I've got the DVD at home, but it was great to watch this again...thinking this weekend I might have to pull this DVD out and watch it. I'm thinking I'll also have to track down Mr kneebone and transfusion.

Powderfinger had a great run of some stellar albums. Their last 2 albums had some great tracks, but didn't hit the heights of Double Allergic through to Vulture St. Still wish they were around as a group through. Hopefully in the next 5 years they get back together for a new album, when they realise how much they miss each other :)

Bernard's latest album is pretty damn good and a vast improvement on Departures.

Yes I loved Vulture Street too.

I hoped Bernard would realise how much he missed the big crowds when he did the One Night Stand for Triple J last year.

Bernard was inspired over Christmas and wrote a few more songs to go on the second half of his double album, so it's delaying the release to May, I'm sure we will be happy with the extra songs.

Yeah, announcement is schedule for tomorrow. Really looking forward to it as they are a great live band. I have seen them 5 times over the years through stadiums to small clubs and each show has been great

On a side note - I just couldn't get into Peter Garrett's solo album. Tried to give it a go with multiple listens, but it misses Rob Hirst's touch.

Went and saw Tired Lion on Saturday in their final show for their current tour. Lead singer had to cancel the Friday night show in Sydney due to sickness and not having her voice, so was excited when the Brisbane show wasn't cancelled. Great show and whilst you could see she wasn't full strength in her voice, the show certainly didn't suffer. Better band live than on record and will definitely be seeing then again. Lead singer of Violent Soho was in the mosh pit too

Here's a clip of them live from a Triple J gig-
