my kids and wife drive me nuts with their insistence on subtitles on every show/movie we watch. If it's a really good movie, I'll watch it with subs (like Parasite), but if it's a show, nah.

LOL...my kids watch everything with subtitles. I have to admit that at first I kind of liked it but then I find myself watching the script and not the show.

So switch it to subtitles. You are never forced to listen to dubbing.
I started wearing glasses about 6 months ago. Turns out I was rocking about a 20/40 vision. Explains why I've always hated reading subtitles on shows too. But now that I can actually read them, I still find it distracting to have to read what they're saying and try to follow everything else too.

I actually looked up stats: a whopping 70% of Gen Z uses subtitles. Millenials are 53%.

wife and I were watching tv the other day. At one point, I didn't hear something, I said "did you hear that?". She said "nope. you wouldn't have to ask me if we had subtitles on".
I mean the biggest issue of why people use subtitles is streaming has fucked up audio quality. They assume everyone has some ridiculous 5.1/7.1/7.2.2 surround sound set up. I have to go into every show on Netflix and switch to stereo instead of surround sound. And I'd say Netflix does a better job of it than the other others, but that's not saying much.

This is pretty cool. Based on civil rights activist Bayard Rustin (actually the latest high school in West Chester, PA is named after him. It's been around for like 15-20 years)

Watched the first episode tonight. Already better than the newest season of American Horror Story
I kind of thought it was awesome. Very creative way to weave in so much of Poe's work. Thought the main actor and actress were really good. Not scary but cool to watch.
Oh man. Are you serious? I could barely watch 20 minutes before tapping out. And I like Bill Burr but damn....tired cliche after tired cliche over and over and over again. I think the last new movie I declined to even finish was Dude Where's My Car (actually walked out of the theater)? I couldn't stand this one!
Another bad movie I recently saw, but finished, was Matt Damon's Downsizing. Somewhat interesting idea and the first half of the movie held my attention but it was as if they had no idea what kind of movie they were making--comedy, drama, scifi... Pretty bad overall.

I liked it. A couple laugh out loud moments. First half was better than the second half but I made it through, which I rarely do with comedies these days.
Haven't seen it mentioned but the American Gladiators documentary is worth watching if you liked the show in the 90's.
The Arnold Schwarzenegger one is good too. It's three episodes. The new Sly Stallone one is worth watching if you're a fan of his. It's just one 1.5 hour doc. The most interesting bits are him coming up with Rocky, and his bizarre relationship with his father.

Years ago, I found subtitles annoying as well. But today, with out subtitles, what I hear is the supper loud EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE of my tinnitus with some conversation and/or music often lost in the background.
I bought the box set DVD of the whole Family Ties series- an old favorite- and loving seeing these shows again, but a real struggle. Seven seasons, no subtitles!
“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”

Agree about Old Dads. I expected it to be good because I like Bill Burr, but I think it is TERRIBLE. Not funny (for the most part), and the whole "anti-woke" theme was so over the top and exaggerated, and cliche like you said, that it came off as almost demented as well as dimwitted.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata
OOF. A doc about a pretty fucked up cult that is still running and escalating in a scary direction, with plans to involve children and breeding. Very disturbing, and I especially feel so so bad for the mothers of the people who are lost to it. The couple who invented and run it are the scum of the earth.

Uhh yeah I started it last night and it was pretty rough. Bill Burr is one of the funniest guys out there but the whole anti-woke thing felt so forced and over the top like you said. Only got about halfway through and doubt I'll finish it.
