    Just adding a point to the illegal immigrant workers discussion. Even as a legal immigrant (at least if you come on a fiancée visa), you are not allowed to work without obtaining a work permission first. You have to apply for it and it takes about three months to get it. Before you have it, you are not legally allowed to work in the US.

    The interview stuff is not correct, as far as I know. I have looked this up today because it is of interest for family and friends to visit me in the US too. I found this with a bit more detailed info. http://grabamile.boardingarea.com/2017/01/trump-threatens-visa-waiver-program/ "The program in question is one where certain individuals applying for a visa renewal do not need to appear in person for interview at a US consulate/embassy. This change is being made in order to bring consistency to the visa application process.
    This change does *not* affect the Visa Waiver Program, of which ESTA is a component."

    Thanks for that Leeze, that article just came up on my Facebook feed and my knee jerk reaction was WTF as someone who has visited the US 3 times in the last couple of years and plan to again I was seriously pissed off but it's not as bad as I originally thought

    Under Mr Trump's wide-ranging executive order, all refugee admissions have been suspended for four months.
    The text of the order was released several hours after it was signed. Other measures include:
    A ban on refugees from Syria until "significant changes" are made
    A 90-day suspension on anyone arriving from Iraq, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen, except certain visa categories such as diplomats
    Priority for future refugee applications from those persecuted for their religion - but only if the person is part of a minority religion in their home country
    A cap of 50,000 refugees in 2017 - less than half of the upper limit under Mr Trump's predecessor, Barack Obama
    The order also said all immigration programmes should include questions to "evaluate the applicant's likelihood of becoming a positively contributing member of society."

    This is an interesting take on Trump's outrageous proposals and what may actually be a result of the tax on Mexico for the wall. I think there's definitely a good possibility we would see something closer to the 2 - 3% suggested.

    He's playing everyone? Start with a ridiculous proposal and then settle on a reasonable figure so everybody goes, "Oh. Okay. Pshew. That's better"... not realizing, ultimately, they've paid for it with increased costs for the products they receive from Mexico?
