I'd actually be a little disappointed. I like Nothingman, and have since I bought vitology 20+ years ago. Still, I don't get the love affair with it. About a year and a half ago, there was some March madness style voting poll the ended with black as the winner. I don't get that either.....PJs best song? Not sure. I love rocking the fuck out, and those songs seem to lull me to sleep. To each their own, but I'll never get it.

You seem to have gotten it. Everyone doesn't have that weird opinion you have that a song has to "rock the fuck out" to be great.

I'd love this version of nothingman tonight but Chris is not scheduled to be there.

Haha! I had a whole reply typed out to that post and though I came off sounding like a douche. Honestly, I'll take the slow jams over rocking out any day of the week.

Really enjoyed that version. Good choice of song for the show.
Thing is, its a Pearl Jam Xmas single but its not Pearl Jam playing. Small point but I think its valid.
Would rather they picked a great live version of any song from any concert they choose, preferably something that hasn't been released yet.

  • Nothingman Bridge Benefit compilation album was better, this one was a little too slow in the beginning, but Eddie pulled off an almost accapella ending very well.

Like I said. To each their own. I still don't get the love affair some have with the song. Is it a good song.... Absolutely. Does it in any way, shape, or form define the band..... No. Weird opinion? Every song? Did I say a song has to rock out to be great.... No. Didn't say that. I simply said what I like. Holy shit, don't take it so personally. For a band that is so inclusive with their message and open to different things, some fans have a real issue with someone that has a different opinion.... To the point of ganging up and name calling (not on this thread specifically, but it def happens). Relax.

i thought it was great but also thought it was kind of an odd song choice. i'm sure 99% of the people in the audience had no idea what that song was.
  • Lol, when they focused on fans likely there for Rhianna, they politely smiled, like thus ain't bad, but..,we wanna dance.

Piano fuck up at the end might keep it off, but otherwise I'd say it's got a very good chance. Ed's vocal was great as ever.

That was an incredible performance, and I thought Ed worked very well with Chris. Chris has many haters it seems, and I might not be his biggest fan, but he knows how to entertain folk and he and Ed seemed to really complement each other. Opening two fan bases to each other is never a bad move.

Many may never have heard nothingman but when the vocal delivery is that strong I am damn sure a lot of the audience would have gone and tracked it down afterwards

I don't care for Coldpay but Chris Martin is a pretty talented dude. I thought the performance was pretty good. Holiday single hopefully is Cat Stevens/Ed Fathers & Sons. That was fucking beautiful!!!! One of my favorite songs ever....with one of my favorite performers singing it with Cat. Never thought I would see it happen. Really great sounding version from them!!

I love Chris Martin. I did not enjoy their rendition of Nothingman. I don't love Nothingman to begin with  My favourite Ed performance was Father and Son followed by People Have the Power.

They should release his set from the Concert Across America with all proceeds going to end gun violence. I thought it was a strong set with some very heartfelt words spoken, with a few jokes thrown in for good measure.

I couldn't get through it, was way too slow. Don't get me wrong, Ed sounded great, piano - meh. But it seemed like even Ed was thinking "let's speed it up a bit here, where's matt when you need him?"
Wouldn't it be funny if the world ended in 2010, with lots of fire?

I hope not. While Chris Martin's piano was very nice, I think Eddie sounded pretty bad vocally on this one. I agree that it was hard to get through ... in fact, I turned it off about 3/4 of the way through because I couldn't stand it anymore. How strange that the opinions about this performance are so different. Nothingman has never been a song I liked a lot, but for me it was the worst performance of Nothingman ever (outside of the lovely piano playing. I've always noticed that Chris Martin just has "it" when it comes to that).

  • I hope not. It's should be a Pearl Jam not just Eddie. Great selections of songs from Fenway or Wrigley

I thought Ed's voice was spot on but the piano and pace of the song stopped me from finishing it...I thought it was an odd song to play at this festival eventho Nothingman is one of my fav songs

My thoughts as well. I tried to listen to it twice, both times I couldn't get through it the whole way. I like the Pearl Jam version

Wow. If you thought Ed sounded bad on it you should stop listening to PJ right now. That was spot on gorgeous and as good as it gets.

Now if that was Future Days or something than I'd understand. That song blows, but If Ed sounded good I'd be ok with it still.

Oh, okay, you're right. I'll stop listening to Pearl Jam. Or how about this: if you thought it was as good as it gets you should stop listening to Pearl Jam? ;)

Someone else said they thought that the piano was off... Well, I understand why one would say that, but since the piano was in tune, it was Eddie who was off. He's obviously not used to singing it just with piano and at the different pace that they obviously agreed upon. He likely just needed to practice more.

Maybe when you collaborate with someone else there has to be some compromise...maybe Chris had to play something on piano that he was familiar with or would be easy to play. I wouldn't have thought they could pick any random PJ song. Maybe if Ed had teamed up with a PJ member then they prob had more options. For what it's worth I thought it sounded great and the pace of the song was ok. Their set overall was really well done. I enjoyed it!

If you're talking about me, of course I don't bring nothing but negativity, and I think most people know that. I just enjoy discussing the band and the fan club because I do love them. But nothing is perfect. I like discussing all perspectives and opinions! I like discussing great performances and the not so great ones too. I like giving credit where credit is due with 10C, and discussing the problems as well, since I'm paying for it and I'm not a sucker and a business should be getting honest customer feedback. Sorry you only want to hear particular perspectives that fit your view and mood, but that's definitely not my problem. :)
