This band has made lots of weird decisions over the years. Weird isn't necessarily bad though. Many have been mentioned here but I always think of:

    The Target deal and commercial.
Who You Are as the first single off of No Code
Nothing as it Seems as the first single of of Binaural
Re-recording several vocal tracks for Lost Dogs and other tinkering
No videos after Jeremy (until much later) - that was pretty weird at the time
    Not releasing anything from PJ20
Lyric change on Who You Are for the reissue
Private show for corporate event (Oracle)
Releasing every show from 2000 was a very weird thing to do at the time, but awesome
    The 1995 Tour Movie
    DAL-7/5/98,10/17/00,6/9/03,11/15/13

I think Ed also performed at a private Salesforce conference.

I had some of the same thoughts as others have posted. I thought about it more, and wtf business is it of mine. none, poll is cool but the merchandise, and Ed playing corp stuff is his business not ours my opinion. I'm glad all of us can state our thoughts. Who gives a rats ass if either of us thinks differently. That is a good thing. My observations are that Ed and band have demonstrated through the years how generous and caring they are. I just have a gut feeling that the net goes to charities, and they are private and do not need the press to say your a great guy (band.) Seems to fit their MO.
    Thanks for your time.

I also agree that playing that Oracle party was a really weird (and bad) decision.

Yikes, lol. Never saw that because we don't have Target in Canada. That's pretty lame.

Having an avocado against a blue gradient as their album cover
I'm ok with the Avacado album art, I think the "weirder" descision was to self title the Album. Either that or naming Lightning Bolt the same as one of the tracks. I just like Album titles so these ones were a bit disappointing.

    Wow never saw that....yikes!

question is did that even help at all?

EDIT: looking back at old threads it actually did help as it went 500,000 units in 6 months in the US don't know what it is now so I guess the Target partnership did help

That's what I was thinking. Is everybody else here just that much cooler than me?
  • zero probs with anything fixer related> LOVE THAT SONG. target is a good store, compared to the others....

Watched the video, its not even bad. I think it's just clips of the fixer vid too.

their Target "Get Some" promo was totally lame.

Avocado cover was stupid too. Wilco came out with A Ghost Is Born album (2 years before?) which showed an egg against white background. Back cover, same egg but slight crack. Amazing fucking cover/art concept. So PJ goes and puts another fucking piece of oblong shaped edible on their cover. But with a Photoshop 101 - CS2 - style - lame ass gradient. And the cheesiest drop shadow to boot. Lame. Sorry PJ. That cover blew.

Yeah. Self titling it felt like a check box decision. "Everyone has a self titled album, I guess this one could be ours"

Wasn't there some software on the disc that gave you some live boots? Without any cover songs. I might remember it wrong.
