I seen sirens a few times live and it is usually hard for the band to play live
I am not trying to convince you as I am sure you have heard the newer boots from the SA tour and up but I felt the exact same way as you did the first time I heard this song in Worcester. Fast forward to Periscoping the SA shows and the crowd makes this song. At Fenway 2 I did groan a bit to myself when it started but the song won me over, once again mostly because of the crowd participation and the outro.
It was super tight at Fenway 2. It lagged at the show I was at in '14.
As far as songwriting goes, it's a great, well-structured song. I'm not a big fan of the lyrics on that one - a little lazy for me (but lyrics/schmyrics - the music is #1).
Not a fan because the solo reminds me too much of "Every Rose Has Its Thorn". I can't seem to shake that so I'm in line at the pisser too for this one!
Fenway 2 line wasn't too bad since it was right after Even Flow!
I swear to God (even though I don't think there's one) that Sirens is the most embarassing thing they ever wrote, and its outro is annoying like few other things in this world.. They should show the world they are still bold and brave, and reach the level of creativity they hit with masterpieces like Binaural and Riot Act. It's not that I don't like love or sentimental songs.. Thin Air and Of the Girl are good example of how you can write good and smart love songs.. while Sirens just make me puke.

Hey, I like that song.. expecially the outro riff alternating 4/4 and 5/4.. funny song.

Now tell us how you really feel Replace Sirens with Just Breathe and that would be about how I feel about that song

Ah! To be honest, JB is not my favorite song by any means, but it's ok.. At least, I don't feel a sense of nausea and diarrea and the feeling that PJ are slowly becoming the new bon jovi's when I listen to it.
I think Sirens studio version is pretty good, but the song just doesn't work live in my opinion. it doesn't sound right live to me. it's missing something live. maybe too fast or too much guitar. i don't know. i just know it doesn't fit live at this time.
I don't understand all the hate for Sirens either. I guess that's PJ fans for ya. But I'll be damned if I'm gonna let anybody hate on Nothingman in a thread that isn't even remotely related to it
Almost 3 years later and I still think it's the best song off LB
its certianly one of the best, I wonder if Black was released today it would be dismissed as a ballad......(which remains my favourite of their whole catalogue)
As for nothingman, hating on that one absolutely blows my mind

Love Nothing Man and Black. Both in my top 10. The "ballads" and slower songs have been unfairly criticized IMO. I think Just Breathe, The End, and Future Days are other good tracks that are dismissed because they are not hard rock. To me it shows a maturation of the band.

And it shows a little range. There's an old joke that AC/DC is a great band that releases the same album every few years. Do people want Pearl Jam to be that? Besides, I always thought one of the hallmarks of this band was that they balanced hard rock aggressiveness with genuine sentimentality.
"I'm a lucky man, to count on both hands the [shows I've done]. Some folks just have one, others they got none..."

The only problem I have with Just Breathe is that I have heard it 3 out of the 7 shows I have been to and it always is in the first encore. The first encore is my favourite moment of a Pearl Jam show as it is the highest chance of getting a Lost Dogs song or other rarity that I have been waiting to hear and having Just Breathe fill that spot leaves me mildly disappointed.
I can't believe there are 2 people in this thread that hate Nothingman. Easily a top 5 song for me. The crowd singalongs are amazing (see Hartford '10 version). Love it early in the set. It's a great 2nd song after a slow opener.
