By the way, Ed stopping was awesome

Yeah...I was watching on periscope and started laughing when they did that. My best friend, unfortunately a non Jammer, asked me what was so funny. I tried to explain how very fast and short Lukin is and how they finished the last 15 seconds after stopping. She looked back with a puzzled You're Crazy expression on her face.OnWis97 said:The funniest part to me was that during the break I was thinking "It's Lukin...it's a one minute song...they'll just start it over....that would be easier than picking it up mid-song." And they picked up the last 20 seconds or whatever. Classic.

No. It felt like 1993-1994 Eddie.TheBeardedFellow said:Did him stopping feel like Axl Rose at all to anyone else??
And i understood the initial stoppage..but all the explanations and references he made following were kind of muddled out to me. I didn't even hear the Bartman reference.I know I was born and I know that I'll die. The in between is mine.0 -
Had to look this guy Bartman up, I knew nothing about the situation. I get that it was a big deal for him and his momentary lack of perspective (i.e. he should have let the ball go to see if the play goes through) cost him a LOT... but for heaven's sake, Ed is a lifelong Cubs fan, that is Cubs history, PJ was playing in Wrigley Field which was clearly an ongoing dream of theirs (even if it was their 3rd show)... Yes it was a bad joke and it's fine that some were really bothered by it, but it makes all the sense in the world to me that Ed's mind would make that connection in that moment, given all of the context. Especially since it's also VERY very stressful for PJ to see any fan clearly in distress or not ok. And he could see 2 fans in that situation. PJ doesn't f*** around when they see fans in GA in distress - Roskilde was 16 yrs ago? But I'm sure they're still highly effected by and and very vigilant still because of it.
Yes, bad joke, sounds like Ed realized that and back-peddled. But he was also worried about the well-being of 2 female fans and I cut him immense slack for that comment if that's the worst thing he did/said at that show, especially if it all went down while he was trying to address a safety situation. Totally fine to call him out on it, but wow, 3 pages of discussion of it?0 -
I didn't know the name. Not a sports girl. I agree with a few others who said that they thought it was a Simpson's reference.
Thank you for the clarification from someone who was there. I'm sorry that you had to deal with that asshole, but glad that you could sort the details out for those in need. Dude was out of line and needed to go.unikunka said:This is exactly what happened -- I was two people to left of what happened and saw the whole thing:
The guy who got kicked out was a huge jackass. Early in the night he started shoving a few people. The guy was drunk and his wife/girlfriend got in his face and they were screaming at each other. Nobody knew what was going on but the wife was trying to basically say "you're drunk calm down". A couple of people told him the same and he started pushing again and we called over security. He didn't get booted but he got a stern warning and then started to behave. BTW this was early during Betterman.
Then what happened during Lukin was two-fold -- a girl flat out passed out in about the 8th row. A guy grabbed her and started heading to the rail. Everyone else immediately started clearing the way and helping. The girl was out cold and it was sorta scary. We all started shouting for help but then the guy carrying the girl got to the asshole from before and the asshole probably thought he was getting pushed and turned around and started going fucking crazy. We were all like "dude this girl is passed out" and he sorta calmed down and the girl for over the rail but by that time the song stopped and he was still pushing/jawing and everyone around him was like "you gotta go". So Ed booted him. The girl who was passed out came to as she went over the rail and seemed ok so that's what ed's comment was about but they were actually total separate incidents.
Funniest part was assholes wife had to follow him out over the rail looking pissed cause the guy was an ass. There was another incident where he had gone for beers he didn't need mid-show and was jawing at people on the way back when he was shoving his way back up.2014: Cincinnati
2016: Lexington and Wrigley 10 -
Thanks for your recap. Yep sounds like your standard typical meathead. Probably still has his buddies shoot steroids in his ass on a regular basis.unikunka said:This is exactly what happened -- I was two people to left of what happened and saw the whole thing:

Bartman..ill stick with unfortunate yes..tragic, mob like absolutely not but we can disagree. Eds words after shows he probably regrets bringing it up. Thats all from me on this."Going where the water tastes like wine!"0 -
little story of Ed stopping the song for this on the local Philly NBC news web site today.

Just watched a documentary on Bartman the other night on ESPN. I feel totally bad for this dude! I think majority of the fans at the game that night would have done the same thing. You can't blame one mistake on the loss. I hope this guy has some sort of peace in his life!Bigfoot is blurry.

That video. Wow. They were almost done the song. Favorite bit, though, is Eddie checking on the woman.
She should have let security deal with him.unikunka said:Funniest part was assholes wife had to follow him out over the rail looking pissed cause the guy was an ass. I was going to say 96-98 Eddie. My first two shows, he stopped people from crowd surfing over the seats ("It's like swimming on coral!") and then "gently" reprimanded some jerk who was throwing quarters at him, and suggested that neighboring fans request anyone they see throwing change at the stage to refrain from such behavior, only with more f-bombs. Way more f-bombs.KV4053 said:

Only a complete idiot actually thinks Bartman was the problem. He was just trying to make a joke. Just like Tig Notaro makes jokes about having cancer. Obviously that's a different level. But I'm just saying I don't think there's anything wrong about trying to make a joke about it.Kevinman said:

Whether you understand the reference or not is irrelevant. That is one of the greatest songs in the history of rock. When I first heard that on the Sifl & Olly Show I just about lost my shit. Couldn't stop singing it for a week.KV4053 said:

who is bartman and how does it relate to this? Im very lost.0

The only way it's similar is that both Bartman and the Lukin Meathead were escorted out of Wrigley Field by security. The optics were similar. That's all Ed was referencing.everybody wants the most they can possibly get

I think Ed's reference to Bartman is him making fun of Cub fans who scapegoated him, not making fun of Bartman.tylermoore said:

Yeah, no. It was just the optics of a fan once again being escorted out of Wrigley. It was a similar scene. The only person Ed meant to make fun of was the guy who got ejected.Go Beavers said:

Didn't Ed say something to the effect of 'they're booing him like Bartman'? That's a joke on Cub fans overreacting. The joke is the 'they' in the sentence. Booing an aggressive a hole fan is appropriate, booing and harrassing Bartman is not.slightofjeff said:Go Beavers said:
