  • Has anyone mentioned Sarah McLachlan?

Her voice was (is still I think?) fabulous. I saw her live in our city and thought she was awesome. She covered Peter Gabriel's Solsbury Hill and I don't think there could have been a better version short of Peter performing it himself.

I'm a metal head; so Halford, Dio, and Bruce Dickinson always caught my attention.

    Eddie Vedder is great too

I can't believe nobody has mentioned James Taylor!  His timbre is simply unmatched.
His fingerpicking technique is legendary too, but that voice...

Rock and Roll hasn't had a superb voice such as Freddie since he passed, there are good singing voices, but they aren't in the league of Freddie

the very best singer in Rock n Roll,

    has to be Romeo.

His vocal chords were made of gold,

he just looked a little too old.

Good call. His voice and guitar have always been awesome. It's nice to spin one of his records for some mellow music around the house. My wife is going to his concert this summer with her dad. They love his stuff.
    It's a hopeless situation...

Natalie Merchant.  Her voice didn't just bring me to a couple of tears, but tears that poured down my face for the first three songs.

He does - a combo of smooth and flinty.  There's a very pretty acoustic version of Beg, Steal or Borrow somewhere out there.

And my Merchant-loving friend, I've done the same (yet to catch her live though).
  • I saw Natalie merchant back when she came out with tigerlilly, like ‘95? In a college gym I won tickets to.  She was pretty good but I wasn’t appreciative enough at the time, I think.  Loved that album.

As for popular singers...  Aimee Mann comes to mind.  Nancy Wilson is up there, as are Bono, Stevie Wonder, and Brad Delp.

for rock music, regardless of what you think of Journey, Steve Perry has an amazing voice.  also great voices for Paul Rodgers and Lou Gramm.

I know their music is pop crap but hard to deny that Christina Aguilera and Ariana Grande have some really nice voices in my opinion.

All great voices but none of them have moved me to tears.  Aguilera came close though.
