Still remember first time I heard Eddie's voice on the radio during the 2nd verse of Hungerstrike. It caused me to turn my head and think "Whoa!!" But the early 90s had tons of good music. I would have loved to heard a duet with Eddie and Natalie Merchant.

Elvis Presley, one of the greatest vocalist in history.

Outside of my generational pick, his voice hands down is one of the best ever...rock, country, blues, gospel...nailed them all

Likely already been mentioned but Joe Cocker was a stunner, as well as a captivating performer.

Sinead O'Connor was a FORCE live! And such a chameleon... always strong, but really different from show to show, depending on her mood. But I don't think I ever saw anything short of a great show, and I saw her several times. So sad that she seems to struggle so much now. :(

Tim Buckley probably tops my list. I love Jeff but his dad had the better voice.

    Marvin Gaye
Jewel- I've always had a thing for her voice
    Art Garfunkel
    Joni Mitchell

One of my all time favourite singers is Foy Vance. As much as I love Eddie, Mark Lanegan and Michael Stipe, Foy has the ability to just stop me in my tracks whenever I hear his voice. I first saw him live in 2007 in a pub in London with about 30 other people and I've seen him a lot over the years in bars and clubs and even stadiums (he supported Ed Sheeran last year, I went just for Foy).
Most of the time he can be found in the bar with the fans before and after his gigs and he is one of the nicest, most down to earth guys you could ever hope to meet, with a wicked sense of humour.
I'll be seeing him again in September, the only gig I've got lined up for 2016. Check him out on Youtube; pretty much everything on there is worth seeing.

Has anyone mentioned Damon Albarn yet? I don't know that he has the most amazing voice. Maybe just an understated and lovely voice, but that's fine by me.

  • Daniel Greaves of The Watchmen. He often does an a capella tune or two at their live shows. it's a religious experience.

  • Big's Wreck's Ian Thornley (often referred to as the Canadian Chris Cornell for his incredible voice) was on the same festival bill as Danny's post-Watchmen band Doctor. Danny came out to guest sing during Thornley's set, and Ian introduced him as "the best voice in rock". That's SOMETHING coming from Ian Thornley.

HFD, I have heard you mention The Watchmen in a few threads now, and I am so happy you posted videos! Otherwise, I probably never would've heard that amazing voice.I haven't  even watched the second video yet. The first one is so beautiful.
  • the second video is of him performing the Start Spangled Banner before a Winnipeg Jets game.

youtube "Neverending White Lights - This Longing". It is a collaborative project called Neverending White Lights. It is all different singers. Danny G is on This Longing. it's a haunting track. the picture it paints in my head is one of a soundtrack to a movie scene.....maybe someone moving slowly in and out of a car at a funeral.....all black and white......interspersed with memories of love scenes of the person lost. yes, sounds cliche, but I love it.

Raine Maida from Our Lady Peace is also on one called Liar. Also good.

The first song I could listen to several times...there's something in the musical arrangement that keeps it from being too dark. The second song kind of guts me . Even though I think it is a good song, I don't know that I would put that one on rotation. The lyrics probably hit too close to home, maybe?Thank you for the recommendations. I enjoyed all of those choices and will pay closer attention from now on when you mention a singer/band.
