Very soon as the Red Wings aren't (miraculously) making the playoffs.

WWE have an event scheduled at the Joe on July 29th. That's the last thing on the schedule there as of right now.

You gotta think it'll be August at the very earliest. Between the Soundgarden tour and EV's solo tour there's not much time in the spring. Also, if they were to "close" the Joe does that imply they are the very last event that takes place in the arena? Was that the case with the Spectrum in 2009?

PJ at the Spectrum was the last official event(s) ever at the building.

When is the last scheduled event for the Joe? If tearing it down I wouldn't expect them to have it sit for a few weeks or month and have to maintain it for another event.

Slated to be demolished in September was the month I was told (as I recall).

Why do so many people think PJ should close the Joe?
Just because they closed the spectrum doesn't mean they are the go to band to close dilapidated arenas.
It is Detroit afterall. Shouldn't the closing event be Bob Seger or Kid Rock or Ted Nugent or Iggy Pop?

Alright folks, it's that time again.

Rumor has it that the final event at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit will be a PJ show in 2017. Detroit Red Wings radio broadcaster announced it over the air during a game, and Chelios has said he cannot confirm or deny that and listen to what Eddie said during the 2014 Detroit show.

Hey, I hope it's true but I don't think PJ has as big of a "connection" to Detroit as they do in Philly. Sure, there's the Chelios (Rodman?) thing but they have skipped the city quite a few times over the years.

Again, I hope I'm dead wrong.

I feel like Pearl Jam could close any place they want really...if you were the promoter for the place why wouldn't you? It's a for sure sell out in minutes. Not to mention the way the PJ fans show up and make a real event out of the day, that's a great way to close a building...and cmon, no one would do it better let's be real.

And Nationwide Arena is a great place to have the warm up before the warm up.

Settle down Ohio people. Play it cool.
  • There's an article in current issue of Sport Illustrated about the Joe. Says the building is set to close "this spring."

When does the new arena open? The Wing's aren't going to the playoffs this year, so barring preschedule concerts/events, they can probably shut down the joe after hockey season and transition events to the arena?

When was the 2013 October/November tour announced?

Hopefully more solid rumors increase this summer, announcement in August for a Nov/Dec tour? That is my only hope for a tour in 2017.

I think the Fall ’13 tour was announced in late June? If I’m not mistaken, I think I already knew I had lottery tickets won for Brooklyn & Hartford before the Wrigley show (but I could be mistaken, I drank A LOT that weekend!)

    very valid question...

PJ has closed The Spectrum and played the final concert at the old Chicago Stadium in 1994 so there is a little history... I hope they do it and its been rumored for a while... but I don't think its a lock by any stretch

That sounds about right to me too...
Wrigley was mid July and I remember making tour plans with my Wrigley ticket buddy for the Pittsburgh & Buffalo shows!!
