For those traveling to Raleigh how much did this intentional cancellation by PJ cost you?

How do you quantify taking time off work and arranging a vacation around something that doesn't happen? It's a loss of money in a way.

I will be talking to a lawyer about this... if they can protest so can i....

Sounds like your about to waste a lot more money talking to lawyers..your with your wife..go out and have a good time. You don't need the show
who says to need to pay for the lawyer? got one in the family...and enough people are affected it may be big enough for a class action

  • This was to be my first show. I would have gladly paid triple to see them. I can't get back the missed experience and the late cancel makes it hard to reschedule anything. It more of an emotional loss for me and my friends and family that were planning on attending. I had GA along with my wife as well as my brother and his wife. Totally heartbroken.

Im guessing it's all in the small print that the band can cancel at any time.. But I don't read the small print..

First time I've laughed in ~ 24 hours. I love the people on this forum...

Cost me no money..I live 15 minutes from the venue. But I am heartbroken. It's been 13 years since they've been here and I was looking forward to a show in my current hometown....

$85 for a hotel I couldn't cancel. Already took the day off, so I'll spend it on the beach...mostly sunny and 77 degrees tomorrow. Just lost the high I was on from Greenville, but small price to pay I guess. I think they could have played and made a statement another way, but it's their call and I won't fault them for doing what they think is best. Big picture, it's a rock show and I've seen a thousand of them, I'll get over it. Thankfully I'll be aided by my first GA show, two days from now. Rock on!

A good moral of the story is don't travel anywhere for a concert that you're not really interested in checking out as a vacation spot. I had tickets to the EV shows in Vegas that got cancelled five days before the tour started there. Sure it was a disappointment, I probably would have cancelled the trip if I could have, but we still went away and had a nice four day vacation, refunded the tickets, ate at nice restaurants and did some other cool events instead. Now I book my Pearl Jam trips with that in mind; where would I still like to visit or spend a few days regardless if there are concerts there.

I was all set for four or five EV shows in Florida the other year before they got cancelled. So instead of staying at home in the cold English weather, I did a great road trip holiday around the state.

I hope the vast majority didn't loose out too much here.

Does this mean you're not going to Boston anymore? Or you're still going to the city, but you're dumping your tickets for the show??

I'm not an expert in bunched panties law, but it might be hard to prove how distraught you are about being pawned while you're singing in Fenway with the henchman of the band.

Well, anyway, what show are you more pumped for? Boston 1 or 2?

Maybe? One example is the GNR show in Vancouver 2002 (which resulted exterior damage to GM Place). GNR didn't cancel the show. Axl was being late (as he usually is). The Venue panicked and wouldn't open the doors until Axl arrived. They waited until about 8:30 (making everyone wait in the rain and not letting the openers play). The venue then made the call to cancel the show. So it wasn't GNR that cancelled it, it was the venue.

Even GNR the kings of unreliability had reasons for cancelling. I would imagine for insurance and what not you need a valid excuse for cancelling. GNR cancelled that euro tour in 2001 because there was an illness in the band, and they cancelled it way before it started.....

My point is I'm not sure if GNR cancelled any shows that didn't involve extenuating circumstances.

Aerosmith was sued successfully once, but that's because it was proved they cancelled a show last minute to place a bigger show and a corporate show that paid them more money elsewhere. In this case, the band didn't profit off the cancellation at the fans expense, so it's would be hard to prove any wrong doing. With that said, class action suits have been brought up in the past, but most of them fail. Suing PJ for doing "the right thing" seems pretty petty. Also, the costs to do so vs. the return would be negligible at best if not a losing proposition...

I would bet a dozen Shipley donuts that they were afraid to look bad in the eyes of the almighty Bruce after he already cancelled. I mean really, Eddie fan girls over these old guys enough that you know he would never do anything that they might find offensive. Can't possibly have to face explaining to Bruce why they decided to still have a show.

What a fucking lost opportunity. He could have spent 3 fucking hour RAILING against the bastards that came up with this law. Influencing people that could maybe take action. Putting on the angriest show this band has played in the last 20 years. Having their scathing words for the fuckers who passed this bill all over YouTube. Having information and displays at all merchandise areas explaining to people exactly what the law is and how they can help make a difference.

Nope. Instead they just peaced out. Shifting the focus from what is bad and discriminatory about the law and replacing it with anger and frustration at the short notice cancellation that fucked over the fans who had nothing to do with all this shit. Concerts used to be a way to express what pissed you off. What better way to do that then right in the backyard of the people who've caused you grief?

flew in Monday before cancel with the wife and return flight is thursday. so I'm out $600 for flights... $130/night for hotels. $150 gor car rental plus food etc. well over a grand because they waited to cancel.

This is the dumbest shit I've read so far today. Get a grip dude.
right it's ok for the band to stand up for their rights but god forbid a fan does... talk about hypocrisy... notice not a single word to the fans who got screwed ...not one other than we know it hurts...yeah right...try working for 9.00 an hour Eddie instead of the 90,000 an hour you actually get

 That isn't standing up for your rights (what right are you talking about???). It's just being a litigious whiner. You are an American stereotype right now, sorry.

    We have a winner.
i'm sure there are clauses on all tickets we buy about a cancel policy.

yes but they didn't cancel due to illness or the like...they cancelled because they got their panties in a bunch. how do you think a jury of non PJ fans would view multi millionaires screwing their fans like that?
Yeah but it s not like your trip was canceled because pj didn't perform. You re being refunded your money spent on tickets; you still could have went to Raleigh and enjoyed the city.
I've been in Raleigh since monday about an hour before they cancelled had they cared about the fans and announced it even 24 hours earlier i could have stayed home but nope... and in talking to people seeing the news etc etc no one gives a shit they cancelled other than PJ fans...
Wait you ve been in Raleigh since Monday? So besides the tickets you are being refunded for where exactly are you losing money?
I'll ride the wave where it takes me......
