Not that my opinion matters or will change anything, I'm just a fan who's been supporting this band for 20 years, but this is really messed up. This topic has been debated for almost 2 weeks and you wait until 2 days before the show? Really?? Plane tickets booked, hotels rooms booked months in advanced, time off of work... I could go on but it doesn't matter. Punish the fans that had NOTHING to do with this law. For the fans Pearl Jam? Really! You think this politicians are going to lose anything over you cancelling the show 2 days prior? Again, I'm just a fan who's been buying concert tickets, shirts, albums, posters for 20 years, but I will not give another dime to Pearl Jam.

This is not a good thing. Why not cancel last week when Bruce did?

If I'd had lost $$ due to this id be pissed.

Not well thought out at all

I support the cause but this is lame-o

Why not wait till day of and make people line up to get in then announce there... Sorry turnaround & go home

    Shameful

Thank you Pearl Jam by showing that you do have a strong core of beliefs... You believe in what you've always preached.

Ditto others sentiments....just as with Bruce...I support the decision, but I question why the wait?

Thanks for the last minute notice! Why couldn't they've announced this sooner?

I'm sure they were working on it for a while! How do you think they can refund the fans so quickly? they probably had to make a few calls, you know, check with a few people first?? Please find some love in this Pearl Jam decision. Peace
PEARL JAM in 2024! Dark Matter and MORE ! THANK YOU!!
Peace Love & Pearl Jam forever!!

I had to work miracles..and they were miracles...to be able to attend this show, moving shit around with work so I can even remain in NC this week and not be out the money for tickets.

Top that off with it being the wife's first show and you have total and utter disappointment.

They could have easily turned it into a benefit or something to support groups opposed to HB2.
  • narnianarnia Posts: 635
Good decision, but they should have done this sooner in consideration of the fans. I feel your pain if you had tickets. Once the law is repealed, they should play a free concert in Raleigh.
I escaped it...a life wasted...I'm never going back again

I think they are clueless and this is grandstanding by the band...you just played Florida with the crazy stand your ground laws...you are playing states with horrible voter ID laws that are racist and a civil rights problem. and you aren't listening to the people that are actually being discriminated or the people actually trying to repeal the law.

    no shit!
No wonder MayDay's anger started setting in rather quickly!

I'm really sorry for those of you who were looking forward to this show that was to happen...day after tomorrow? As others have mentioned, there are/were - in my opinion - other avenues that could've been taken instead of this one.

This punishes the state of NC in no way, no one in government cares at all, it will change no minds.

Things like this do have an impact. Several other states have canceled or modified draconian laws due to the financial impact. Hell, similar tactics helped end apartheid. $ is pretty much the only thing that will get the law changed

Fans shouldn't be punished for this. Play the show and turn into into a manifestation, donate money to the cause or whatever.

I think this is the wrong thing to do - especially for PJ who knows they have a fanbase who travels (far) to see them.

Think of how much more wrong HB2 is. The touring base will get over this in the long term.
    SO MUCH THIS.

louis ck recently played two surprise shows in NC, and donated the proceeds to equality groups. THAT is doing something positive for the situation.. this is just silly and pretty pointless.

You are a bit misinformed on this, I live here, I did not even KNOW about this until it happened. I had no chance to vote on it none of us did. If you are suggesting I voted for our governor, you are incorrect.
  • sucks for people that bought tix and made plans like hotels and whatnot. should have made the announcement about a weeks ago, not a few days before the show, IMO

I agree. I do respect their decision to cancel the show, but why do it at the last minute and hurt the fans who already bought their plane tickets and reserved hotel rooms? I really do feel very sorry for the fans in this position.

Social awareness is an integral part of what has long been a part of what makes PJ a great band. Thanks for doing the right thing guys. Proud of you!

What do you do if the US government makes laws you disagree with? Skip the US? Glad this isn't one I had on my list. Sorry for those many of you probably already on the way to this show. This sucks for the fans completely and will change nothing but it will look pretty good for them next fall walking around a Hillary fundraiser cocktail party in the Hollywood hills.

the people who say NC did this to themselves are clueless. Charlotte was pro active and progressive by making a law for their city that was super pro LGBT rights. Houston and other cities have voted down those laws. Then the state (which is red because of gerrymandering) and has lots of rural strong red areas that are not impacted by these protests passed this bill making what Charlotte did illegal.

So NC did not do this to themselves.

If you get angry you can't go see a band for the 10th, 30th, whatever time, just imagine how angry people must get when they can be denied rights because of their sexual orientation.

When Bruce cancelled I thought "nah PJ wouldn't do it because they know that a ton of people are travelling to those shows from all over the world." I guess I was wrong...
What a dick move to do it 2 days prior. Friends of mine flew in from germany for some shows, including this. I agree about the law, it's disgusting and I think the vast majority of your fans thinks the same way about it. But to cancel this show two days prior is just sticking the finger to thousands of your fans who travel from all over the place to your shows. Weak move PJ, weak move.
