it's not the club. it's the band. one of the guys in one of the newsletters mentioned it as such. he said that Kelly Curtis reminds them around August to start thinking about it.
And it takes them a year to put it out.
My point was that they had a test pressing of it at least 5 months ago. Either it's in a big warehouse somewhere waiting for god knows what, or there was a change of plans.

I think we will have a nice surprise this year, something we don't expect. Maybe a new song with all that gone on in the last year. Who knows maybe they scrapped the original idea and that caused a delay.

Or the tenclub could think ahead and plan these things out a little. "If PJ don't do something by september so we can press the vinyl by october, we always have these two B-sides or this cool alternative take or this weird things to put out instead"

I don't have a problem with the band taking as much time as they need to release what they wanna release but if they are going to charge us a highly increased rate for membership when they band doesn't really tour that often to make the ticket buying opportunities that frequent and we barely get any info on the band from the 10C. At least give us some info on what's going on!?! It kinda feels like they don't care and know that people are going to keep throwing $$ at them regardless of what they do or don't do...

Exactly. When they don't tour for several years at a time (or very limited, sporadic shows), and the single is later and later, and the "newsletters" are really nothing more than product advertisements, what exactly is the return on our membership cost? $40 seems a bit much for a vinyl 7" and a printed newsletter, when there are no shows or new music being released. Seems like the only benefit these days is the "opportunity" to buy high-priced, limited edition merch, that they would not sell much of outside of the Ten Club anyway.
I've been a member since '95, and I'll keep paying my analog fee as long as there's an indication that the band is still together, and at some point, will be recording and performing, but it is getting frustrating and harder to justify each year. They haven't played my town (Las Vegas) in 11 years. I saw them in L.A. in 2013, but other than that, there hasn't really been any opportunity for me to see them - and it's not in my budget to travel across or out of the country on whim. Here's hoping for something in 2018!

May have got a couple of things wrong-and I'm making the assumption that the test pressing shown in the email is the actual holiday single for this year. It was May, not March.
This will prob be the last time I pay my 40. I'll go back to digital and just buy the 7" from the shop. I certainly don't care about the deep newsletter anymore and have never gotten one of the 10c shirts included. Either way I'm all about the vinyl releases, studio work and live shows, so that's why I'm here. Maybe I should pick up my tshirt though now that I think about it. Hmmm

Ha ha I've done the same thing. Every year I think its not even worth it as another "yard work" shirt. The luggage tags were a cool idea, especially since I travel a lot, but they dont even reference PJ anywhere on them so that good idea kind of blows. I've realized before Id save money by just buying the single from the shop, but for now I'll keep chugging along with the full $40.
I also dont get why it seems so secretive. They use to announce well ahead about new albums and work coming, and now we dont know about shows or new albums and apparently even the x-mas single is a secret.

probably got sick and tired of the bitching and moaning when things don't happen the way they announced it.

There is no new album. There are no shows. What are they supposed to announce? They just said have your address updated for Shipping the single. Nothing is new with any of this. The only new part is that the band is only a part-time band at this point (and that is being generous)

What if one of the tracks is the new studio version of "Out of Sand" and this is why it is so delayed? Yes I realize it was released with the ThirdMan vault but that was a demo version and not everyone purchased or had the option of purchasing a digital copy. Really hoping it drops soon and it is something REALLY SPECIAL!

I love getting the holiday vinyl. Of course I want it sooner than later but ultimately I don't give a shit when it comes. Its such an old complaint around here "the holiday single never comes on time". It has almost never come around the holidays. And I still love the DEEP magazine as well. In fact, I think its gotten better and better over the years. Looking forward to this years stuff!

They had a big countdown to a mystery announcement last big tour and album. I remember hearing rumors they were working on that album, but no formal announcement that I remember. Why does the 2016/2017/2018 tour rumor thread exist? Because there's never an announcement of a break, or that there will be a tour or an album until there has to be. And that's fine, my point was the single seems like one thing that doesn't have to be secret and a big reveal. As some pointed out, many pay $40 for membership, and knowing that they don't tour very often anymore so no 10c tickets many years, the biggest benefit to the $40 is the single. Would just be nice to know if we get the 2016 single before 2018 or not. If its late its late, fine, would just like to know instead of guessing. Yes, they just said update your address, but I'll believe it ships when it ships, not to mentioned were a few months from 2018 and this is the 2016 single we're talking about.
The lack of communication is just annoying sometimes. In the end I don't actually care about getting the single even close to on time. I don't think its unreasonable to ask for a few more formal/informal (santos-esque) updates though.
Basically paid for a product through my membership with an unknown delivery date, not many situations in life where that happens and it is accepted. Not much difference from the Anthology situation, too. I feel bad for those that ordered/paid it with no product in sight.

This sums it up perfectly for me. And the lack of communication is something they're aware of and have perfected. From the Let's Play 2... thread:
just sign up your niece and nephew as analog and especially save your old fan club singles and use them as trade bait for GA tickets for the new tour. that's what i'm doing because the only PJ shows i want to see are from the rail.

If this was Creed their fans would have sued by now for their $40 back.
I do agree that that the secretive stuff is just silly. For instance, Jeff and Richard on PJ radio. Richard compliments Jeff on the stuff he's been writing and Jeff just says shhh. Come on.
