  • Just a question:

Say they did a preorder for 2,000 posters. Somebody has to wrap, roll, package, label, and send posters out to 2,000 people.

Is the expectation that 10C staff do this on their days off or would people be willing to pay 10-15$ more to cover processing costs? It's infinitely easier for them to drop a big clump of prints at the merch booths where they sell out.

Don't get me wrong- I'm pulling for you guys... I'm just curious what the expectations of people are for such a time consuming task. Personally, I'd pay additional for the service.

This is why they don't do the preorders. Logistically, it's a nightmare for them. For a 1 time show, yeah, they might could do it. but for a tour, it would be chaos for preorders. Taking the order wouldn't be that big of a deal, but when the posters actually get there, somebody has to roll them and put them in a tube and print a shipping label. There's a lot of work that goes into that and they just don't have the manpower.

hopefully they can figure out something that makes it easier on everyone. Maybe the voucher would work where you can preorder with your tickets and the day of the show, there is a voucher only merch booth, or they hand them out when you pick up your tickets and you roll them up yourselves. Or maybe they work out a deal with the poster artists where they can sell them online with a coupon code that we get when we buy tickets.

It's not that they want us to suffer by standing in a line. It's just that right now, this is easiest on everyone.

Not only is it a logistical nightmare for 10C, but you're essentially also asking them to at least triple their poster production to satisfy you and still allow for general ticket holder sales. As it stands, it's assumed that less than 1,000 posters are made for each show. So you're asking for them to either increase the amount of posters that they have deemed to be sufficient, OR you're fine with submitting to a lottery or "fastest to checkout" system for an incredibly small amount of presale posters, which will only in turn make people complain for multiple reasons and create more "petition" threads.

While in a perfect world it would be a lovely thing, it's just not practical on multiple levels. Not only for the band and 10C staff, but for screen printing companies that have endless orders coming in who are now forced to print (for a tour) tens of thousands more posters. I know that's pooping on your party and ignorance is bliss, but there's a lot to consider here.

As much as I would like to, I'm having a hard time coming up with a refutation for this.

I assure you the screen printing companies are not complaining about the stadium tour poster spike of business they are receiving in today's business environment. Also we are not asking them to triple their production run. We are trying to find the easiest way for 10C to get the poster in the hands of those who want them the most and thwart the flippers. If there was a presale, they would then know how many they sold and could decide to increase the run, leave it the same and have the balance shipped to the sites. I am sure everyone would be ok with a surcharge of say $5-10 plus shipping to spend time will fellow jammers and at the wish pre parties.

*Rumors* on way this won't happen:
There are going to be 4 posters for Fenway and 4 Posters for Wrigley - 2 for each day.
10 Club does not want to separate posters. The scheduled printing of said posters are cutting very close to the event.

Exactly... you'd essentially have to do a mystery poster presale for each show to make this somewhat possible. Which, I'm not against, but I imagine a lot of people will be trying to trade their posters once they get one they don't like. Which could lead to flipping, etc.

I understand it wouldn't be easy for them. But for a band/fan club that claims to be so against flipping to the point that you can't even mention ebay/stubhub around here, you would think they would have no trouble going above and beyond to ensure as many fans as possible get these posters for face value without getting gouged after the fact. That's the part that pisses me off about the whole merch scene.
