O gifted men, vainglorious for first place,
how short a time the laurel crown stays green

A breath of wind is all there is to fame
here upon earth: it blows this way and that,

Try and try..... you can also try to find some of PJ's security guys (there's always this really big, bald guy.. looks tough but is nice... talk to them and ask! Pistoia might be easier seeing it's in a town square..

from where I was (side seated..well obviously not seated, mike side), it was amazing, the whole place but right at the back was rocking.
Great show, Black was amazing, so was Crazy Mary.. RITFW went down a storm (there was a HUGE sign mentionning it at the back of the auditorium).
Nice to have a new cover..though the song is soppy..MFC, Faithfull..all makes it up for the lame (as in unoriginal, the concert was good) setlist in Verona.

got to report another security problem though..Black-Red-Yellow got literally squashed by some assholes at the front..she fainted 3 times and even ended up on the floor and security did nothing..and she was at her usual place front row centre!! completely ruined the show for her. There was also some full blown moshing at times, on RITFW for example.

I had a feeling the pit wasn't a good place to be in Milan...hopefully will be better in Torino.

ok, i was at the milan show last night and in verona sat night. Great concerts. both of them. Milan was very energetic with few surprises in the setlist, leash and faithfull i tought were brilliant, but the most incredible thing is the crowd. The crowd in italy is so warm. I had tears in my eyes at the end of black, the guys standing there and looking at us was wonderful. Eddie was shivering, u could tell he had tears in his eyes. Love it. anyway, i dont know how's to see a show in america (this year i was blessed to see the show in Irving plaza after 9 hours in front of tower rec, but u cant count that as a normal show) but i bet the people are not so warm as here in europe. The guys were missing for 6 years and the love they are getting is a billion times bigger than normal. love pj, love the fans. torino and pistoia here i come....
  • Only one thingh describes yesterday concert:
    eddie was crying.

Ok, I'll try a quick overview of the concert.

It was mind-blowing!! chills down my spine sort of experience! Amazing! And I thought that was the best show the Astoria in London (Eddie was wearing the same Plasmatics t-shirt) I have been to... Well, it has just been topped!
Verona was magical. The arena is such a spectacular venue, plus, it was the first time hearing them play as close to home as possible for me, so it had that extra meaning. However, because of the open-air venue the crowd sing-alongs are not as powerful. I could only hear those around me and just see everyone at the back and on the gradinate clapping and rocking out. But, yesterday!!! WOW!!!!
I so made the right spur-of-the-moment decision to go. I had the 2000 Milan bootlegs and I loved it. I can totally see why now.

So, again, some personal highlights in random order:
    - ***Parachutes***!!!!!!!!!!
I love the song so much, after at first going 'what the hell?' when I first heard it.
    - Big Wave!! and Comatose!!!! Between Verona and Milan I have heard all my fave from the Avocado. Yes!
    - Eddie saying, in Italian, how in 15 yrs of touring they have found no better crowd of singers than in Milan!!! :)
    - ***Save You***!!!
    - And ***SOLAT***!!!!!! Oh.my.god!! :) I finally got to hear it live!!! So happy, and then followed by the most amazing version of Black I have ever heard. The crowd was amazing. The boys were applauding us at the end! :D:D :D
    - The story behind MFC! I always wondered whereabouts in Italy Eddie was driving through when he got inspired to write it. And it turns out it was while travelling between Roma and another town or village, which name I have now forgotten! sorry.
    - The Tom Waits song (thanks for the setlist as I did not know it!) was dedicated, in Italian, to the love of his life, the mother of his daughter, Olivia.
    - That 1st encore was sublime. After Black, Crazy Mary!!! I so wanted to hear that live, too, finally (now, I have only Baba and F*cking Up to go!;))
    - ***Faithfull***!!!!
    - The speech prior the Leash being dropped in Milan - Eddie said this song was last played in Milan, can't remember how many years before, when they played in a smaller club.. and then Leash!
    - I was impressed with Eddie's master of the Italian verb declination! :D He left the stage with 'Io vi amo', I love you, and then added by looking back at the band, 'Noi vi.. amiamo!', we love you. Perfect! :D:D
    - The band was on fire! Can't wait for the bootleg!! This and Verona. Fantastic shows!
THANK YOU PEARL JAM!!!!!!!!!! and thank you to all the fans too! :)

Yup, I agree on the amazing singalong to Black, and unfortunately also, on the moshing. There were some intent on ruining the concert experience for the majority. I also got caught in a moshing wave, from my original position in front of Stone. I got kinda scared in two occasions (one during SOLAT!!! which I longed to hear), but was able to assert myself and not get crushed. One guy actually asked me whether he had hurt me.

Glad to hear you enjoyed your first PJ concert!!

Btw, did you manage to give Eddie the uke? I was keeping an eye... not that I could see much in that sea of people!

Edited to add: never mind! just read the rest of thread. Better luck next time!

I am sorry to hear about your friend. Security would also not hand out any water to people immediately after the show ended, just telling us to go buy it at the front. That was lame.

re: moshing, there was some also during Alive. I was in front of Stone, or thereabouts (depending on where the wave of people would take you), when Eddie moved to that side, the crowd surged forward and I risked being submerged by some very inconsiderate dudes. Ihad to elbow my way out.

On the whole, though, apart these two incidents (the other being during SOLAT), I felt the pit in Milan was better than I had envisaged/feared. There were also fans trying to protect and look after their fellow fans, so that was good.
  • OMG!!!
I still cant believe last night. Too many great moments..just got home, need to get back to Earth, still in the clouds...

Verona was great, but last nite...Just look at the setlist...and read the fanviews :D

The crowd was amazing, esp Black which will go down in history! Ill write more soon and post pics too :D

ok, just tell me im wrong. dont insult. i tought the crowd was very warm and after the guys reaction i tought they were surprised. that's why i assumed they are not used to this kinda reaction... I wasnt trying to be offensive. sorry to hurt your feelings. ignorant and stupid are not the words u should use without even knowing what i was trying to say. this reaction is something that surprises me and not really in a positive way.

here in america we show our warmth in a different way that's all plus we are probably used to seeing them more often than uropean crowds .....
jesus greets me looks just like me ....
  • Well fuck a duck! (apologies for my language)

That was simply the greatest thing i've ever seen in my life. Got front row just to the right of Stone. Had a great view of everyone but Boom and OH MY GOD was the band on fire or what! And i mean EVERYONE was on top form. So intense. They played out of their skins in Milan.

Eddie was definitely drunk by the end of the night. He took a NASTY fall when he was running back to the stage towards the end of the Alive. He was stood on the speakers directly in front of me and when he ran back and jumped over and amp he lost his balance and it looked so painful! Jill looked worried until she saw Ed get up and then she just laughed at him!

The Tom Waits cover was just beautiful, seeing Jill cry was quite strange but so romantic. Eddie must just make her melt inside!

Setlist was perfect in my opinion, got Faithful and MFC so i can't complain one bit! Milan was the perfect end to my run of shows this year.

Thanks for everything this year PJ! It's been memorable.

Wow, you guys were lucky, front row! We knew the crowd's gonna be rough, so we decided to stay at the center, where the fence splits on your side, so on the U from Stones. When they started the show, 2-3 songs into it, the crowd on our side was SO crazy and I was lucky that I held to the fence, and my friends too. Cause we managed to stay at our place...otherwise... :o

But, wow, yeah, the Tom Waits cover, I bet it was quite a view seeing Jill crying...so emotional. I got goosebumps when he said it and sang it...

Once again, nice meeting you and you guys are so lucky and def determined to get that front row ;)

I'll be there at least on one of the 4 shows Im going too ;) hehe.

Milan rocked! AMAZING!!! The crowd and the band...definitely a special bond between. well, any PJ crowd, but last nite...I was so happy to be a part of it. :)
And all the signs...ah, so cool...took some pics, I promise Ill post them later :)
