I've recently read Chris Rock & Jerry Seinfeld both say they won't play colleges anymore because the audience is far too politically correct.

I'm not a racist, I'm not a bigot, I'm pretty damn liberal, and there is NO question we have become a little too PC as a society

To me that means Chris and Jerry have become soft. Part of being a comedian is dealing with some blow back.

I see that as the opposite, actually. The audience(s) have become soft - so easily offended! - so Seinfeld and Rock and probably others've said fuck that. We'll do what we do with people who have thicker skin (and better senses of humor).

This trying-to-please everyone nonsense is, well...nonsense. Be yourself, have a conscience and let the chips fall where they may.

    Everyone gets backlash.

why is it that only white men (and ben carson) complain about political correctness??

are they angry that the majority of people reject their bigotry? are they angry that they can't get a free pass to discriminate anymore?

must suck to have that privilege checked.

For example, the term "hard worker" was used to describe Paul Ryan in an interview on MSNBC and Melissa Harris Perry took offense to that term as being offensive to slaves and single moms. I'm sure there is no "majority" in the country that believes calling a white person hard working is racist, but if a very few people with a microphone say it is it isn't far fetched to see the liberal community bully people who use the term. I'm sure the guest being interviewed on that MSNBC program is now having to defend he is not a racist when he had 0% percent of any racist intention in calling Paul Ryan a hard worker.
That is insane. That is a perfect example that shit is out of control
It's not that insane. Melissa Harris Perry is insane, but rich guys have gotten away with pretending they know about hard work for far too long lol
Funny work in office environment and had a few holiday events with raffles and such. Few of my peers said "I never win anything or first time I've won". Looked at each and told them they already won. Deer in headlight expression. Oh was politically incorrect and explained why. Lucky white male bastard with good family and college degree.
I would take offense to this, lol. I work in an environment and position that most people do go to college for. I just "worked hard" to get here no college involved...

tempo, same here. My husband as well.

I don't take offense to the comment but if someone said that to me? I'd smile and nod my head, as I know the paths taken to be where I am. If others don't get it, cool - rolls off my back.

I never win raffles and the odds are slim so who gives a sheit anyways?

And, yes, Perry is insane. She and Stacy Dash are two sides of the same coin the same way Ben Carson and Al Sharpton are. All 4 of them are a shame to their heritage.

I guess privilege has different meanings to different people. It seems sometimes used as a slur (whether intended or not).

I didn't grow up anywhere near wealthy (and have learned that frugality rocks!), but I had a fairly solid upbringing, parents who actually parented, strong family around. So yes, fortunate in that sense, absolutely. I am thankful to have that foundation.

But as an adult, it was on ME to find and walk my own road, by my own measure of success. Still walking on it too.

To me, that's a win by my own hand.

True, it's okay to push the envelope without going full Donald Trump. It's called being a rational human being with a sense of humor.

Speaking of Seinfeld, saw him at the Pantages last October.

Those who are termed politically correct may indeed take things a bit too far, are trying too hard to be nice. But if that is what PC is, what is the opposite and is that what we want? Not I!

Amazed every time I go into meeting with 50 of so attendees and there's maybe one black male.

Sorry but if you don't think you won lottery being born white in America in this world you out of touch with reality and give yourself way too much credit. Working hard is relative. But understand need to feel special.

Explain "Canada absolutely already has those groups of fundamentalists practicing their own little version of Sharia Law"

Well can be argued that "sharia law" is used in nonbinding voluntary arbitration between people within a mosque or community. The same as nonbinding voluntary arbitration in some Christian churches or Synagogues with one or more arbiters being the "judge (s)" of whatever that dispute may be. Within families or between other parties.

In essence a nonjudicial means of dispute settlement.
That is true, but I was actually thinking about Bountiful, BC, where there is a hard core community of Mormon fundamentalists (you know, the Blackmore fucker - also has strong ties to those fucked up groups in Utah). The Mormon version of Sharia, so to speak. There are plenty of cults all over North America that practice their own "laws" and there is almost never anything done about it. Even when the real law does try to do something about it, nothing is really done. This goes for Jehovah's Witnesses, Othodox Jewish communities, weirder cults that are scattered here and there, militant white Christian supremacist groups, etc etc etc. My point was that this huge fear of Sharia law is either pointless since it doesn't have enough of an impact for us to really care, or hypocritical, since the same shit is already going on in North America, yet no one cares until Muslims get into it.

I agree that society has become too PC in many cases. As someone who a huge Louis CK fan, I'm definitely not PC, haha. I also argued against this whole "thugs" thing. So stupid. BUT... for one thing, our freedom to expression makes the complaint pretty moot, technically. But more importantly, the term is being thrown at people who are rejecting very extreme ideas now. "Us liberals" are now being regularly accused of being too PC because we don't think that the shit that a lot of these GOP fucks are spewing is acceptable for politicians to be saying. It is an unfounded accusation that right wingers are throwing around now in an attempt to defend bigotry and other dangerous ideas in politics.

If you're white, you have white privilege. It's just a fact, and not racist or prejudiced. If someone's offended when it's white privilege is pointed out, then their offense is from denial.

I just usually sit back and laugh at some of these kind of comments... But when other people express their opinions and are called ignorant because of it, just doesn't seem to be politically correct (see what I did there). But your comment is just plain ignorant here. So if you're white and go from rags to riches studying hard to earn a degree, working hard to get a great job while paying off all your student loans cause you couldn't afford to pay cash for college (nor could your parents who make below poverty level but don't take welfare handouts like they deserve it), and are grateful for where they've come from, you must be so fucking privileged. And I guess black persons like Will Smiths kids didn't hit the lottery. You're just nuts.
Being born white in America is def an advantage surely you must understand that no ...
jesus greets me looks just like me ....

After reading five different articles I can see the point. It's just really, really hard for me to see it in myself as having "white privilege". I didn't grow up like 99.9% of you. So try and see it from my perspective.

White privilege doesn't mean that you didn't work hard, nobody is saying that. White privilege means that your hard work was recognized and rewarded. Millions of people on this planet have worked hard to a point that would put you to shame and they received starvation wages or worse for that work, not promotions and an increasingly easier life.

White privilege also means you don't have to work as hard, and you also have a leg up in nearly all social situations and interactions in the work environment. As a white guy, I'm given a higher level of trust and respect from the start, and then it's me as to whether I lose that trust and respect. Minorities often have to show that their worthy of that respect and work to earn it.

No guilt. None. Just acknowledge reality and if everyone did we could make it where there is no difference.

But understand the primate mind and how evolution instilled divisiveness as a survival instinct.

Exactly, no guilt at all. Just a willingness to face reality.

    Reality such as:

In the vast majority of cases, white males have an advantage in our society.
White males in America generally have more privilege.
Some of my white ancestors very likely contributed to the genocide of Native Americans.
The majority of the world is non-white and if we who are white don't stop treating the rest of the world like crap that will come back on us big time.

See, that wasn't hard to say. Look at reality, face the facts, be part of the change.

Call me crazy but as a hiring manager i just take the best candidate whether theyre black/white/asian/etc. same with promoting workers. Id be a huge racist if i promoted the black guy over the white guy who actually deserves the spot.

I dont care what the demographics look like. Im taking the best male or female for the job. And hey the last three people ive picked have been black. Best person at the time. I dont want to hear crap tho about privlege if i take a white person who was simply better. Just like they shouldnt face that. And "why they're better" comes down to hard work, better resume, etc At this level everyone is privileged enough to have a degree.
