And are there any other beaches besides south beach that the locals recommend (clean, nice showers, etc)

I always prefer Key Biscayne... Go to Virginia Key or Crandon Park. They are typically less crowded, and way more laid back... South Beach is fun though for the bars and the topless people. It all depends on what you want. =)

    http://www.southflorida.com/music/sf-pearl-jam-miami-fort-lauderdale-sunrise-mike-mccready-interview-20160405-story.html

"But the truth is, in going on tour, I'm thinking of it more in business [terms]: 'What new songs — well, somewhat new songs — are we going to play? And what are people going to want to hear?' That kind of stuff."

"Ed's very specific on knowing what we played in Florida the last time we were there," McCready says. "Every set list we've ever played he'll look over and go, 'We opened up with that in '96. We opened up with that in 2002.' All of those things are taken into consideration. … I think he frets about it a lot."

Sadly no. Really wanted to do a 7-10 stretch and take in 4 or so gigs but just couldn't make it happen with work and family. Meeting one of my great PJ compadres from the UK though and we'll make it count.

Im not from Florida but have been to South Beach enough to feel confident in saying that it caters to tourists, foreigners, and club people. Not a bad thing just my impression.

If you want a good selection of "top notch local beers" you may have to leave South Beach and head to another neighborhood like Wynwood.

Also, as I work in the craft beer industry I feel comfortable in saying that Florida is not well known for it's craft beers. I do recommend beers from Cigar City and Funky Buddha and I'm sure there are others but be sure to choose wisely.

Have fun and enjoy the view in South Beach

I am driving to the fort Lauderdale show from West Palm Beach. Some word of advice for anyone else driving from up north. TAKE THE TURNPIKE OR FIND A WAY TO AVOID TRAFFIC ON I95 IN BOCA RATON!!!!! I had the unpleasant experience of trying to make a doctor's appointment in that area yesterday and traffic was a nightmare!!! They have a lot of construction in that area of I95. I am leaving my office around 5pm so I will have to deal with that crap! ugh

Wynwood is a great place to go for local and other craft beers... There is Wynwood Brewing Company and J Wakefield is a newer one that has gotten some great reviews. Haven't had any of their beers but I have heard great things. Funky Buddha, I love. It is in the boward area.

Also, as I work in the craft beer industry I feel comfortable in saying that Florida is not well known for it's craft beers. I do recommend beers from Cigar City and Funky Buddha and I'm sure there are others but be sure to choose wisely.

Have fun and enjoy the view in South Beach
Wynwood is a great place to go for local and other craft beers... There is Wynwood Brewing Company and J Wakefield is a newer one that has gotten some great reviews. Haven't had any of their beers but I have heard great things. Funky Buddha, I love. It is in the boward area.
Thank you! Most importantly people, thoughts on opener?

I've now got 10 hours until I depart Sydney for the FL and MIA gigs. Hugely excited. Any tips on Thu night South Beach pubs and/or bars that (a) spin great tunes and (b) serve top notch local beers?

F##k this is going to be good!

Im not from Florida but have been to South Beach enough to feel confident in saying that it caters to tourists, foreigners, and club people. Not a bad thing just my impression.

If you want a good selection of "top notch local beers" you may have to leave South Beach and head to another neighborhood like Wynwood.
