Did I just read in the Globe and Mail that Alberta is building 2 forced treatment institutions for addictions? What's next, building institutions to "straighten out" gays and lesbians?

That was a campaign thing here in BC too.  There's a percentage of the drug addicted/mental health/population what wreaks havoc on the civilian population.  Constant thefts, physical attacks etc.... Courts are a revolving door.    So this is the new thing.

Of course we don't have enough facilities for people who voluntarily want treatment, but I do understand the goal.  Try to get the worst of the worst off the streets so they're no long a threat to public or themselves.   Right now, it's the inmates running the asylum (can do whatever they want) so I can see how bringing back involuntary stuff is making a comeback.

I haven’t read the article and don’t know the specifics of how it’s carried out, but if it’s simply a mechanism to keep addicts out of prison and into treatment instead, I’m for it. But if they can just toss anyone they want off the street into treatment, that will have an extremely low success rate, so I don’t see the point. And against your human rights I would think.

I don’t think we should be equating sexual orientation with drug addiction. Conversion therapy and addiction treatment are not in the same universe.

unless the addict wants to get help this is a band aid measure only.
jail? we bide our time, and usually the first stop after release is the bar, convenience store or the dealer.

    this will be no different.
