Strange then that so many people on these and other forums have strong opinions on a variety of topics despite lacking any real expertise in most of them. You don't have to be an expert on firearms to understand the risks associated with them. Moreover, it seems that a simple handgun is deadly enough in the wrong hands. Why do I need to be an expert on specific firearms to feel that they are all fundamentally dangerous?mcgruff10 said:
No I'm not saying you have to be a gun nut but I feel in order to have an intelligent discussion you should know a lot about the opposing view. What is it you're expecting me to know about? Whether an AK-47 is auto or semi-auto off the top of my head while writing a post? Yeah, I think the education you're talking about also would not help the gun culture problem. Better not to talk about it at all in schools IMO. Somehow, the US has to get guns out of American's brains. Adding gun education won't do that. On the contrary. Yes, yes, I understand the issue here.... you've got a gun problem, so you need to teach kids gun safety. Yes, it's a rock and a hard place. But seriously.... Americans are gun nuts, and it's way too in the forefront in your daily lives. Something needs to be done to stop that.
Seems to be the case around here most of the time.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
You just experienced what it's like to live outside of America, where the particular specs of military grade weapons aren't common knowledge. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
Yeah, so civilians shouldn't have military grade weapons. I know, it's hilarious.
Hey, wait. Are you picking on me?!?!
I can say when it comes to guns, I am glad I don't live in the United States. Even the discussions on gun rights are unsettling.

you are glad you don't live in the us because of guns? i vacationed in arizona last year where people can legally open carry and it's no big deal. Just got back from the florida keys last week (florida has very very lax gun laws) and again, no problem. saw pearl jam in st. louis last year (very close to ferguson, mo) and again, no worries. to me the majority of the problems happen in the inner city. just like anywhere else in the world you know where to go and where to avoid.blueandwhite said:

What do you see that points to our gun culture being insane? Is it the news? School shootings? I can only base my opinion on my personal experience but when ever I participate in any sort of shooting event, safety is the number 1 idea stressed throughout.

The US has a very unique culture when it comes to firearms and its not one that I'm comfortable with. I don't feel afraid when I travel to the US, nor do I think I'm in any measurable danger if that's what you're trying to get at. I'm not even opposed to Americans defending their right to bear arms as I'm sure the overwhelming majority of gun owners are responsible and law abiding. I simply don't embrace that aspect of your culture and would rather avoid dealing with it on a semi-regular basis.0 -

I love the US, and can think of a lot of reasons why I would like to live there (in some places, anyway).... what might keep me from moving there is the general gun culture, not the guns themselves. But really it would be the Healthcare system, war mentality of the government, and the racism problem!

So what you're saying is that you can't take a semi automatic weapon and convert it to an automatic weapon because the feds say you cant?mcgruff10 said:
false:Last-12-Exit said:Doesn't it take like $40 and 30 minutes to make an ak 47 a fully automatic weapon?
The National Firearms Act (NFA '34) registry, wherein all full-auto weapons must be registered, was closed to new entries in 1986. The only way to acquire a full-auto anything is to buy an existing weapon (very very expensive. 15K and up) Since the supply is frozen and the demand continues to grow, the prices reach stratospheric heights.
The Feds take illegal full-auto conversions very seriously. If you get caught doing this you are going to jail for a very long time.0 -
It's not that easy. You need to be mechanically inclined, read a blue print(not easy to find), get the parts for that gun too which isn't easy…Last-12-Exit said:

Kind of like how the Boston bombers took pressure cookers to a new level. Should we outlaw pressure cookers now?
