No but I'm assuming that it's close to a pisco sour.

Isn't Campari that disgusting bitter grapefruit-based liquor? That would be nothing like a pisco sour. Pisco sours are made of egg white, lemon juice, simple syrup, and pisco, which is a delicious clear grape brandy. Pisco is so smooth and tasty...Macchu Pisco is my favorite kind. Pisco sours are sweet-sour with a good brandy flavor and they go down easy.

I imagine Campari and soda would be totally bitter and gross, like that Italian soda in the tasting room at the Coca Cola museum. I thought Ed must be drinking sangria, which would be a nice summery twist on red wine. How could he be in such a good mood drinking Campari?! That is hard core!

Like Blowin' In The Wind. Joan Baez rocks that song so hard, it's ridiculous. Dylan on the other hand, not so much! :P

Dylan is really shitty now live, but his original versions of those songs are great.

Thanks for that video, so much. I was at night one, but I am such a huge Brendan Canty fan.

I have to put my two cents in about DC#2 even though I’m not an active writer on this board. So in advance, thanks for listening.

Waited a lifetime to see Eddie, solo, in a small venue….after being a PJ fan for all of these years (since ten), in the ten club (since 94), hopping around the country to see my favorite band (17 shows – I’m a rookie compared to some of you) Words cannot describe what it was like to sit in the 5th row, in this beautiful theater, memorized by and listening to the man that I’ve so admired/worshiped/respected my whole adult life. His words and music have meant the world to me, gotten me through umpteen life experiences, constantly guiding me, helping me live my life, making me grateful EVERYDAY that I found their music such a long time ago.

I’m still in EV la-la land and it feels like this solo show was the pinnacle of my PJ journey. I went to the top of the Eddie mountain and it felt GREAT. His voice was so amazing, so crisp, clear and totally passionate in each and every song. I was awestruck watching him play all of his instruments, listening to him tell his stories (he really is hilarious) and so amazing to see him up so close. He really does appreciate his fans and this really shined through seeing him tonight.

    Best moments:
    • By far the “I’m keeping my political opinions to myself” speech as the GINORMAS Obama sign went by. PRICELESS!!!
    • Telling the jackass mother fucker in the crowd who told him to get through his “Blackbird” speech to shut up
    • Blackbird, Driftin, Watchtower, all of the Into the Wild songs….Just simply breathtaking!
    • The 6 year old fan with the “I heart Eddie Vedder” shirt. (I was sitting directly in front of her) WOW!!! Little one, you have the best dad in the world. At one point, she said to her dad “Look daddy, he has the little guitar out” (the ukele!)
    • As always…the true PJ fans…you guys rock. Thanks for always making me feel like I’m not a crazy lunatic because I just love EV/PJ so much.

My gripe: I had been reading all of the solo reviews and was expecting people (I’m not going to call them fans…they don’t deserve that title) to do a few shout outs, but I was pissed and appalled to actually witness this in person. What is wrong with you mother fuckers? Why would you pay $100 to come to a show just to hear your own selfish voice? I cannot believe that any patron (again the word “fan” doesn’t apply) would be so DISRESPECTFUL and RUDE to interrupt an artist during a performance. WHAT the fuck is wrong with you? And it was disappointing because I could see that it did really bother Eddie. How could it not? Those jackasses put out bad karma and I hope it comes back to them some day. Sorry for the rant…

Anyway, this concert was a dream come true for me and I am beyond grateful for the experience. Thanks Eddie. Wishing you all of the peace, happiness and joy that you’ve brought into my life ten times over.

Were you at DC1? It was 100 times as bad with the shouting. It annoyed me to no end. I was happy with how quiet things were night 2, but it was still irritating.
  • fuck you:
person who kept yelling "play gone!" you may be the same person as birthday boy. if so, please stop going to shows. when you said it once, i thought "gone would be cool to see." when you yelled it a tenth time, i wanted to drown you in the river.

    That was beautiful. :D

Yeah, DC1 was almost unbearable... almost embarrassing to be in such a rude crowd. I can only remember 3-4 times between songs when nobody was yelling out!

DC2 - there were many times between songs where you could hear a pin drop... very pleasant! I thought the Corduroy/RVM/Grievance riffs he played were quite amusing - trying to get the requesters to calm down...
He who forgets, will be destined to remember...
  • The only thing about DC 2 that really pissed me off was the asshole that made that rude comment during the Blackbird story....the show was great nonetheless ....However, i think the shouting and rude comments will probably make this Eddie's first and last solo show at small venues.

Hi Valerie! It was nice meeting you! (I'm Josh, Shelley's friend, the blonde that sat next to you). :)

Glad you enjoyed the show. The 6 year old girl made my night. She was so adorable. I talked to her father and her after the show, and shook both of their hands. They were sitting in the seats we were in the previous night. She's a lucky girl!
Oh help me, help me from myself!!!

Theres not going to be an accoustic version of Blood or anything like that, so feel free to sit down.

Can I just state for the record that I'm pretty sure the folks at DC1 were not DC fans? We are more like this http://dissonance.libsyn.com/

I hope not. I'm sure he realizes that most of us are civil and there's always a few assholes in the crowd. I saw Neil last year and it was the same way. People yelling out requests. Funny thing is, Neil just ignored them.

Maybe that's what Ed needs to do. I almost felt it was a game to see who Ed would respond to.
  • I'm pretty sure it was night 2, but I loved that part where people were screaming shit and it was all blending together and Ed just leaned into the mic and said "...Totally." That guy has the best sense of humor you could ever ask for in a rock musician.

maybe next tour the ones who expected a rocking PJ show will realize this isn't the show for them. I was expecting utter chaos from what I was reading on this board, but it wasn't that bad. Hope Ed comes around every now & again - I think despite all the "crazies" he knows how much he touched a majority of the people at his shows. It was the best concert experience of my life. How it can be topped, I don't know. Thanks Eddie!

    Hi all,

I've never posted on a PJ message board before, but if ever there is a time to post - this is it! I was EXTREMELY lucky to be one of the people in the semi-circle who met and spoke with Ed on Monday morning. What can I say, it was AMAZING. I've been listening to Pearl Jam since Ten and I've been wanting to meet Eddie ever since I was a 12 year old girl hearing "Alive" for the first time on a cassette! It really was a dream come true for me - ever since that night, I've been grinning non-stop. I actually work really close to the Warner theatre and pass by the stage door every day on my way to work and now I know that whenever I pass it, I will start grinning!

Ahhhh! It was so exciting! If people who took pictures/video from that night could message me and email me the files, I would REALLY appreciate it. I have a couple pictures and will pass those on to others who were there as well.

    It was AMAZING!!!!
  • SOLAT319 wrote:
Was he wearing a Zappa shirt? Damn :)

It was pretty exciting for me, Ed is so up front about his influences and I have never heard any mention or connection to Zappa until I saw that shirt. It isn't a "Frank Zappa" shirt in the strictest sense, but it is only being made because it is a shirt famous for being worn by Frank in the late 60s and I would assume anyone seeking it out would know that much. Yeah, I know I put way too much thought into this.

I really need to update this sig.

Saw your quote and immediately knew it WAS my son who would have said that after the show. So, got home tonight and totally busted him on it.

After I get home from the airport, I let my son talk about the show a bit and then I tell him: "Hey, I heard another quote from the show last night."

He asked me "What?" and I gave him the quote:

"If my dad was here, he would have waited 15 minutes and said 'okay, he's not coming, lets go'".

My son just stood there with that "deer in the headlights" look and said: "How'd you hear that? Who told you?!"

As a parent, you just live for moments when you can bust your kids like that! Thanks, OceansJenny! I owe you.

LMAO, that's great!!! I can definitely see him being completely freaked out, haha! And here I just thought it was an interesting comment :)

BTW, now that I can put a face to a story, I'm happy that your wife and son decided to stick around with all of us! She was looking pretty beat as 2am rolled around. BTW, your son also had an idea of renting a chair out to the tired crowd; I thought that was amusing. I don't know why I remember these things, but I guess I didn't really have much else to do. :)

I had waited for 3 hours before the show on Sunday and unfortunately didn't get to see Ed. After the show, my friend and I walked around DC enjoying the quiet streets...walked to the White House, the Executive Building, etc. On our way back, we decided to check back at the garage area and there was a group of people waiting. Boy, were we all spoiled! Ed was amazing, as always. I was the very lucky girl who got the birthday hug! All I wanted was a handshake and to tell him he was an inspiration. My friend was the one who told him it was my birthday, and I love him for that! Thank you, Brian!

You have no idea who jealous I am of you!!! ;) Yet I'm glad for you, congrats!!

Next time (if there ever is one) I'll try to remember to stay towards to edge of the crowd ;)

I had to chime in and remind everyone of one thing I didn't see posted yet. When Eddie was dealing with the guy who tried to rush him through his explanation of Blackbird, Eddie said: "Just take your blackberry into the lobby and check your stocks." Classic!!!!

I was one of the lucky SOB's that got to meet him at 2 am. Unreal, hell it's Tuesday and I am still surfing the board to relive it.

In particular, can anyone remember the rest of the intro to Around The Bend?
    Here's what I had:

    'oops!
"This is a song about loving someone like you had...." didn't finish writing. I think this is when I got warned! Sorry

Great show....thanks 10C for Row B center (4 rows back!!). Pretty much everything said here except how Eddie referred to people screaming things out as "like having the family dog dry-hump your leg when you are meeting the Dad for the first time of a girl you really, really like." It was really, really funny.
Additionally, about 25 of us hung out until 2 or so and met Ed at the loading docks to the parking garage. He came and shook hands with EVERYONE, sometimes twice, and went on his way. Unbelievable experience for me.
    Thanks Ed and 10C.

He knew what was going to happen in Milwaukee. When he was outside talking to us, the topic was about the crowd and he said something along the lines of "well next I'm going to Milwaukee(insert rolling eyes)". He knew it was going to be worse.

He mentioned it during the show as well.

When he told the story about how people screaming while he was performing was like having a dog hump your leg while meeting a girls parents for the first time in DC II he prefaced it by saying he thought he should try the story out as he was sure there would be some "real assholes" in Milwaukee.
