I added that it's a difference in terminology only. I think they are all whack jobs. I agree that they are similar. Just the reasoning behind the killings makes the distinction to me.
As for the thread topic, I think the backlash against the term "thug" does reek a bit of PC-ism. One more word that you can't say because it offensive somehow to someone somewhere. The group I've used the term most often to describe is hockey thugs like Ulf fucking Samuelsson.

Sherman came across like a raving lunatic in that interview. It came after the NFC Championship, a game with a television audience of 56 million people. Many of them were seeing and hearing from Richard Sherman for the very first time. Many of them had just been introduced to a defense that proudly called itself, "The Legion Of Boom." If Sherman came across as a thug...well...racism probably isn't the biggest reason why. The easiest, maybe, but not the biggest.

When idiots riot in Vancouver they are almost all white, and the public reaction and the media reaction are very harsh. I don't think what you're saying here is accurate at all. I've never seen a riot go without a lot of attention, no matter who the rioters are. However, you may be talking about the extra layer added by the fact that these riots are race riots. THAT makes the riot a bigger deal than, say, a fucking Stanley Cup riot, because it's socio-political, and therefore has a farther reach than a "regular" riot. I really don't think the attention they get has anything to do with the fact that it's a "black" riot per se, as in gets more attention just because the rioters are black. The fact that race riots are still fucking happening in the USA is huge news in and of itself. I can barely fucking believe it.
