    Did GWB go to war with North Korea to prevent them from attaining nukes? No. So why should this or any future US president go to war to prevent Iran or another Gulf state from attaining nuclear weapons? Why them and not the other? What is the criteria used to determine who gets what when? Or not?

    The Shia/Sunni divide is quite large and maybe they need to have it out without our choosing sides. Besides, the US lost all credibility by rejecting democratically elected governments in that part of the world. Getting elected in elections deemed fair by outside observers should lend itself to some level of legitimacy, to be negotiated with rather than demonized. Oh well, here we are.

    The largest, single most contributor to this mess was GWB's and the neocons' invasion of Iraq.

    From what I've researched, that is their quick move. It appears the Saudis have provided funding for Pakistan's program. The Saudis have made the moves and payments where this is an end game for them, to have the Pakistanis give them the nukes.

    I'm thinking they are waiting out the Obama administration timeline in office before choosing the "nuclear option". They Saudis clearly don't trust our current administration.

    It's clear they don't trust the Obama admin based on our admin actions. And why shouldn't they trust us as far as I'm concerned?

    Barrack has lost the Saudi support. In the past they have pressed the US for guidance, but our current admin has forced them to go rouge, much like the rest of the region.

    Nart, I'm in 100% agreement that Israel should be signing the nuclear treaty and confessing to what they possess. If the exclusive purpose of having nuclear weapons is for self-defence (second-strike retaliation), then a country with that intent should have no problem with full disclosure, since intent is reasonable. I'm in 100% disagreement about your comment about Israel's nukes pointed at Canada. Besides the obvious that Canada is openly pro-Israel (maybe even more so than the States these days), it's also mostly for the same reason that I find it absurd that Iran would drop nukes on Israel and/or the US: fear of retaliation. Just as it would be the end of Iran if they were to drop a nuclear weapon on Israel or the US (second-strike retaliation), it would be the end of Israel if they dropped a nuclear weapon on an ally of the US. This directly goes against Israel's primary objective, which has always been the preservation of what it refers to as the "Jewish homeland".
