You have ZERO risk. Where is your fear derived? You have Canada, the US protecting your cushy little existence.BS44325 said:. They are without a doubt sponsors of terror and they without a doubt do seek regional hegemony. Allowing this to proceed poses great risk.
In the history of man you BS are probably the least threatened by anything. Lowest risk ever by any human group. Opposing forces, disease, famine, country taking you out with a bomb. You fucking have it made.
This is not the case for those in IRAN BTW.
You are being threatened by NOBODY other than YOUR own fear.

The US consistently wins these polls, with Israel usually finishing second. In the Gallup poll from last year, Israel and Iran tied. So, lets see what you've articulated thus far: Iran is the bogeyman of the region and world, one of the three Axis' of Evil, sanctions on Iran will work and prevent them from getting the bomb but sanctions on Israel, or boycotts, won't work against Israel (posted in the Meanwhile in Israel thread), Iran is seizing ship(s) in the Persian Gulf and must be stopped and that the only way to solve this "problem" is with armed conflict with Iran. Here's what I know, Obama hasn't and won't take military action against Iran off the table, diplomacy and negotiations and the details of the nuclear deal are better than going to war with Iran, that sanctions, in this case, haven't and won't work and that a link to a blog from the Weekly Standard is hardly evidence that, "the West has been vanquished." I also know that the appearance of strength is the name of the game here and Obama won't be sucked in. Unlike our previous president. Someone made a reference in a previous post that this conflict is like watching a gorilla and a chimp beat their chests at one another. I would say its more like a gorilla and a spider monkey.
Israel is a nuclear power, hasn't signed the Non-Proliferation Treaty, shared nuclear weapons technology with South Africa and also committed war crimes in Gaza. Who is the bigger threat to peace and stability in the region and the world? Israel or Palestine? Or Iran?
When asking middle easterners the same question, Israel always takes the top spot.

Absolutely....there is no current threat to Canada, outside terrorist attacks, that can be prevented via foreign military action. If anyone thinks we can prevent terrorism by bombing other countries, they're....idiots.callen said:

Get real.
The biggest threat to Canada comes from Russia and Norway over our arctic land claims, and the US over fresh water. But neither of those issues will come to a head for another 15 years at least, possibly 50, and when it does, we'll be bending over to the US (unless of course the world goes thru some other massive upheaval before then, which is not unlikely).
As an aside - I really don't want to get defensive about the Canada bashing in this thread, because I am nowhere near the same page as BS when it comes to our military (and because, lets face it....letting nationalism affect your emotions in a debate shows serious intellectual weakness)....but I hope some of you (not you, Callen) realize that while a majority of Canadians have bought into the ISIS fear mongering of our government and the media, no one up here thinks our military is going to save the day, or be leaders in any military action. We realize we are subservient to US policies as a matter of economic necessity, and see our role as humanitarian, however misguided these premises may be.Post edited by Drowned Out on0 -

A conservatively biased blog post referencing an opportunistic terrorist group is confirmation of the threat to world security by Iran, but...

You rely on the warmongering rag Weekly Standard to "confirm" your beliefs. You know, the same publication that has been beating the war drums to bomb Iran. The same warmongering rag that beat the war drums for the war in Iraq. The same warmongering rag that has Neo-cons and Neo-con think tanks as contributors who also beat the war drums the loudest and incessantly for both the war in Iraq and now for a war with Iran. The same warmongering rag that probably gave George the term "Axis of Evil" and Condi, "we can't allow the smoking gun to be in the form of a mushroom cloud."BS44325 said:

Not bashing Canada by any means, Drowned, for I'm well aware of Canada's sacrifices in WWII and Vietnam on our, the US's behalf. I just have a problem with a Canadian beating the war drums for the US to continue to sacrifice with a "surge like" re-invasion of Iraq of 140,000 troops, bombing or military action against Iran and naval blockades of Iran and Yemen. BS should be writing his elected representatives and writing letters to Canadian newspapers advocating for Canada to invade Iraq, as well as screaming from a soap box on a Toronto street corner. Unless you think, like maybe he does, that the 75 Canadian advisors currently serving will get the job done. BS should stop advocating war with and by the US and starting advocating more forcefully for full on Canadian involvement wherever he sees a threat in the world.Drowned Out said:

By reporting on Hezbollah's perceptions of "the deal" the article confirms my belief that this will likely be seen as a sign of american capitulation and weakness. Hezbollah recognizes as much as I do that sanctions will pretty much be lifted without any changes in Iranian behaviour. They will use this as reason to be more aggressive in the region. Does this mean it is time for war? No. But it does mean "the deal" might not be as fantastic as you hope.Halifax2TheMax said:
How so?Halifax2TheMax said:So, you admit that you're a war monger? Truth be told.
