I tried to read up a bit on what makes Sean Penn so anti-gun....turns out he had a concealed carry license in CA, and a collection of 65 guns, which he had decommissioned and made into a sculpture for a Haiti relief benefit a year ago. Bidding war between Piers Morgan and Anderson Cooper ended with a 1.4 mil sale. Strongly anti-gun Charlize Theron convinced Penn to get rid of the guns. Why is she strongly anti-gun? Because her mom killed her dad (with a gun) after her dad shot at the fam with a shotgun. Glenn Beck thinks she should be an anti-alcohol activist instead...but I digress. So....looks to me like Penn is a born-again anti-gun crusader....and was likely under contract for this movie long before his change of heart.
I happened to read a little snippet on this movie in the news today. The two-second blurb said it was about a sniper who took a hit on a political figure. Years later, he finds out there is a hit out on him. Penn said it was a movie "about the consequences of violence", so maybe not necessarily inconsistent with an anti-gun stance.

Yeah, I was just wondering if anyone had ever SEEN this movie before judging if it encourages gun violence???

And I strongly disagree that everything is a side thing. Man, if you fall for that right/left side thing and that everything is tied to that, you are a victim of the U.S. government via the media. The right/left bullshit is EXACTLY why we have a hugely divided nation. Media wants us to stay divided, Republicans sure as hell refuse to get along with the other side. It's the very reason the country is not doing well.
And, here, I have no problem recognizing I am a progressive, but I do not equate that to everything. Especially celebs who deserve not zero of my attention. Sean Penn did a fine job with Milk and Into the Wild, but that's it. Who cares about his personal beliefs? Really?
Wow, an awful lot of people care about celebs and their business, exactly what the media strives for. Kudos!
When in reality, no one should.
In reality, people shouldn't believe in grandfatherly types that live in clouds and have existed since the beginning of time either- exactly what religious organizations strive for. Kudos to the successful brainwashing efforts!
Do I have you mistaken? You seem like you are admonishing some on here, but should maybe be more careful living in a glass house when throwing rocks, eh?

Faith is totally different than worshipping actors and celebrities… And besides, this has nothing to do with believing in God. Apples to oranges.
Admonishing some on here? More like the entire thought process of caring what anyone in Hollywood thinks or does. (and nobody on here specifically)

Has any Democrat ever done any wromg?
Of course they have, and if you're trying to take a stab at me, I am not a Dem.

I don't think anyone here worships any actors. I think some people have simply heard news and retained the information.
You said in reality, people should not care about celebs and their business. To which, I stated the same could be said for fictitious gods or even Santa for that matter. However, whatever gets someone through their day is their business.
More concisely, you passed judgment on some. I know you tried to excuse it as admonishing a 'thought process'... but we know that your criticism was directed at anyone in this thread that contributed something to Penn's past. And while you are correct in my opinion... you have failed to see that you have your own silly 'thought process' that has no place in reality (from my perspective).

Putting words into my mouth now, aren't we? My criticism is not directed towards anyone bringing up Penn's past, my criticism is at the mere idea of using energy to remotely care what a celebrity does with their life. Your attempt at insults doesn't affect me (and actually confuse me, but whatever).
Sure, if people want to pay attention to Hollywood, that's their business. Getting wrapped up in it, dissecting and analyzing why people act the way they do because they're famous, that's an American epidemic brought to you by the mainstream media who went from being newscasters to entertainment reporters. And magazine publishers.
To step back into this for a moment - Penn as a person / actor does not influence my life (save for the handful of films he's made that I've enjoyed). Actually, many people don't affect me directly, regardless of their profession...or maybe I don't let them affect me.
But just out of human curiosity, I'm interested to see where our hypocrisies lie (as well as truths), and that includes within myself. That isn't tantamount to being "wrapped up" in anyone's life. I don't need to see bikini shots or selfies or Instagram shit from the Jenner/Kardashian clan or Gwyneth Paltrow's weird world or whateverthehell is the flavor of the day.
...and an aside, look at the weight many give the words, thoughts and actions of various authors, musicians and bands' front-folks

as to your last comment, I completely agree. I've never been too sure why so many follow the "teachings" of a certain familiar front folk like he is the second coming. people latch onto his causes without even seemingly looking into them themselves, just "well, if he is passionate about it, it must be worthwhile".
I like his music, but who knows what he's like in real life.
I really like JA's take on it in the liner notes of Lost Dogs about Sweet Lew. Sums it up perfectly.

No. I never did. You said what you did and I referenced it. I'm not sure where you get off saying I put words in your mouth?
Also... I wasn't deliberately trying to insult you.

Otherwise, we're cool, dude. No offense taken.
I can see how it reads as such, but my intent was to draw a parallel- whether strong or weak. I hope you see this.

Officially derailed. First on a different topic THEN into personal .....
Technically speaking, the train could potentially look something like this:
Hey brianlux, this is a bridge in Cologne in Germany! Did you choose this pic purely by chance or did you know where it was?
What a damn stupid question...you knew it for sure...!
I wish I were that clever, kce! I would love to see that- one day maybe I'll make it to Germany. I have a good friend in Muenster. No, I cheated- I Googled: "Train"+"Lots of locks", LOL!
There is a train trestle in Placerville that is now part of a walking trail (nice, but R.I.P. local rail service) and the fences on both sides of the trestle have many locks on them on which people have had their name and there partners name engraved on them. It's kind of cool- like a whole fence full of love letters.
Yea that´s so nice. This bridge in the picture is called "Hohenzollernbruecke" and it´s only 80 minutes away from my home and I wasn´t there to see all this locks till now. The last time I were in Cologne was for the Christmas fair in December last year and before that I wasn´t there for years. I only realized it bc of the train and the cathedral in the backround. You can only go by train, bike or walk over this beautiful bridge. The shame is I was in the train but I think we were so busy talking that we didn´t think about it. I can remember a discussion about the static of bridges with that many locks on it. But people don´t care, they just want to left a symbol of love...haha and that´s great ! It´s Cologne...people there do always what they like to do...! I really hope you can visit this beautiful city sometime!
SORRY FOLKS...LET´S GO BACK TO SEAN PENN...
Anyways, I like seeing Sean Penn acting! Otherwise I cannot judge bc I do not know the truth...
Seriously...has nobody on here seen this movie yet?? I know it flopped at the box office on its openning weekend, but I never really pay attention to that anyhow...
