Of course Obesity is a problem but let's not compare it to radical Islam. No matter how many obese people are at a "ball game" the two topics are not even close to being in the same "ball park".

My how quickly we forget the slaughter committed by the Zionist government of Israel last summer. Didn't hear shit out of you when they slaughtered over 2,500 INNOCENT civilians, yes civilians, 500+ children. But that had NOTHING to do with religion.

Ya, maybe I'm wrong but I don't remember any of your posts standing out about condemnation. I could be WRONG.

So obesity is a whole other issue, that's fine, but all issues can't be given top priority right? My point is that we can't defeat the control of money in our political system but we are expected to defeat the rise of radicalism in another hemisphere? There is zero evidence we can be successful in the long run. Practically all evidence throughout all of history shows that any show of force short of total obliteration only strengthens resistance. Unless we are willing to "drop a nuke" (i pray this attitude stays within the confines of the ignorant, low class sort of person that tunes into fox and buys it) and kill everybody we will only embolden each new generation of dissent with our Uranium-laden bombs.

I lose count of how many atrocities are being committed daily in the name of a god, prophet, rainbow, garden, heaven, hell insert any fictional belief here______.

I certainly don't judge or condemnate religion I just speak what I feel about it. If my non belief in any religion and its teaching bring fury then so be it. Apostasy is sick and evil. Crucifixtion is sick and evil. Noting sick evil preachings of any religion is not trolling, insulting nor is it any way unhealthy.

edit - apostasy punishment is sick and evil

I can give 2 shits what belief you have, it's just low class scum remarks that you make about others peoples beliefs that suck. You can have any belief you want, why not respect anyone else's beliefs? Again, MOST atheists I know respect other peoples beliefs. They don't go around insulting others beliefs. But hey, you have EVERY right to do as you please. Just don't expect to have anyone respect you as a human. Which I'm sure you'll turnaround and say you don't give a fuck what others think of you. Which I'll say to you, you will one day.

Not believing does not make me an atheist. I am without a belief in a higher power that is all. I don't make scum remarks about others beliefs. I make scum remarks about their god that teaches evil. I do care what others think of me. I don't insult beliefs of others. I question and attack with ferocity gods that instruct others to commit evil acts towards other humans. Any god.

Your right. Not in the same ball park. One is an epidemic of monumental proportions and widespread ramifications and one is a sensationalized news story.
Obesity will kill 100s of thousands this year alone. Not to mention hospitalize 100s of thousands of others. Not halfway around the world but right here at home. This is areal problem. Not a boogeyman story.
I have vocalized my hate for fundamentalists and wackos many times on here. All of them from every religion are a problem. The number of people they kill and injure is in nothing compared to obesity.
Obesity is killing our children.Look at the surge of type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, high blood pressure and lipid disorders, back problems, digestive issues, etc, etc all from obesity.so yeah it isn't in the same ballpark as the few who will be killed by terrorist.

Fair rgambs. I am not in the "nuke 'em" group either I hope you know. I am concerned however about one of these radicals getting their hands on a nuke of their own be it from Iran, Pakistan, Russia or even as a cash purchase from North Korea. This is no longer a far fetched scenerio and whether the crazy who detonates one is considered a "real" muslim or not the day after those who want to nuke back will be in charge. Someone needs to be on the ground to prevent this today and I worry the local forces don't have the skill set to handle it.

The more reason we give other nations or cultures reason to hate us, the more likely something awful like this will happen. If we want to "get them" let's get them by sharing our music and culture with them an visa versa. Learn about each other. Stop creating hatred. Get to know each other better. Not that doing any of that would be easy or 100% effective but certainly more sensible than trying to "smoke them out". That hasn't worked so far- it's just gotten a lot of our young people killed.

Is it possible that obesity and the surge of type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, high blood pressure and lipid disorders, back problems, digestive issues, etc could be lessened if there was a common rule (I don't want to use the word law) that children must be involved in physical training daily whether in form of sport or regimented daily exercise?

By the way- that idea of spreading music and culture is not an original idea. I read about it on one of Henry Rollins books, H.R. has been all over the world and he talks about how he has downloaded a ton of music onto kids iPods in remote far away places and he brings their music home. He says they really did it. It's a good way to close gaps, create understanding and friendships. It's time we try something more sensible like this isn't it?!

It would help, but our sugar addiction is the bigger problem!

BrianLux- I love your idealism...I really do...it's why I love this band.

rr- you're driving me nuts on this obesity thing! I swear I'm going to lose my mind! (In a funny way) I can't believe I'm going to debate you on this but when it comes to your numbers are you positive obesity will kill more americans this year then radical islam will kill globally? When you add up the middle east/asia/africa casualty figures I am not fully convinced that American Obesity comes close. Regardless, even if you're right, we can still fight obesity AND radical islam at the same time. These problems are not at odds with each other.

    BS, here:

    http://www.wvdhhr.org/bph/oehp/obesity/mortality.htm

    From article:

According to the National Institutes of Health, obesity and overweight together are the second leading cause of preventable death in the United States, close behind tobacco use (3). An estimated 300,000 deaths per year are due to the obesity epidemic (57).

300,000/year. Better tell Isis and RADICAL Islam to step up their game. Took me 2 seconds to google. Keep spreading fear. The sky's falling. The sky's falling....

Edit-I belive that's JUST in the US.

Typically, less than 20,000 people die per year from terrorism, from all sources, not just Sunni extremists. 2014 and 2015 may be higher, but, assuming it doubled, that is a far cry short of the estimated hundreds of thousands of obesity related deaths in America each year.

We can fight both at the same time, this is absolutely true, but it does highlight the problem we have with priorities and fearmongering.

    http://news.yahoo.com/jordan-executes-two-iraqi-militants-response-pilots-death-033203764.html

My response would've been HARSHER. I have my own way of how I would've handled this. It would've shocked and def change a few heads of Isis members no doubt.

So to bring this thread back on track.

OP - How would've you handled this if in a position to.
