Spotting Lisbon - 4 & 5 sept 06

edited September 2006 in Given To Fly (live)
Booked my flight for £120 from lastminute.com.

Spalma from Florida Space Coast recommends hotel Ibis Liberdade or check this website out : http://www.bookings.pt (credit to crpates from Lisbon).

Worst case...if we've got a problem finding a hotel, I'm sure Spalma will be kind enough to let us sleep at her beach retreat in Estremoz, eh Spalma?

Also there the 5th, looking at a bit for flights from up here though. £90 one way with BA, Man to Heathrow to Lisboa.

Anybody else going onto Madrid? Thats the part of the journey screwing me up at the moment.

Flights, upwards of 300 euros with TAP or Iberia.
Buses, eurolines dont go to Lisbon.
Trains, overnight train bit pricey too, and possibility of sharing with folk you don't know.
Car hire...its 400 miles. Long way to drive in one day.

    Any ideas?

    Hi everyone.

Now I see where the ten club tickets "desappeared" to :) . Will be nice to have you all here. If you want a virtual tour on the location of the concerts, please visit http://www.pavilhaoatlantico.pt

If anybody needs any help from a "local", please let me know.

    Regards.

I have lots of questions. Lisboa is a GREAT city.

Have the Lisboa shows actually sold out? I have seen different numbers on different threads. Yesterday, I went ot Pavilhoa website and it looked like you could still get tickets to the balconies.

Can't wait for these shows - my first PJ general admission show. Never have sat at a PJ show - but have never have been very close either.
When will people arrive to lineup before the concert?

    Where is everybody staying?

We have a house in Estremoz and family in Evora but will be staying in Lisboa for the concerts (and will fly back a couple of days later).

Beach retreat?? HA, HA in Estremoz? I wish! (it's on the border of Spain and VERY DRY!)

Currently no furniture in the house at all (we are bringing an air bed) and it is over 900 years old (it is located in the castilo on the hill). Beautiful small mideval city with relatively few tourists. Most likely we are staying with my brother in law in Evora. So, we can visit Mae who is in a Casa de Reposo.

So far as I know, it is not sold out. Not too surprising with two nights at a huge venue like that. The wife and I are staying at Residencial Apolo for the weekend before and the nights of the shows. I am super excited. i can't wait to go to the Oceanario... and see Pearl jam of course.

What is Oceanario? Don't spend much time in Lisboa when we go over. It must be new and in the new complex where the pavilhao atlantico is?

    Hi,

The shows have not sold out yet, but i believe they will. I think that there are only left the balconies, at least in http://www.pavilhaoatlantico.pt those are the only tickets available. But it's like SoonForgotten2 was saying "with two nights at a huge venue like that", it's not surprising.

Beach in Estremoz - I'd love to see it ;). If you have the chance to do some visiting I can recommend Troia (a beach on the south of Lisbon) or Guincho where Eddie borrowed a surf board from some Portuguese surfers on the beach and surfed in 2000. You can ear this story on the bootleg May 23rd of 2000. (north of Lisbon going thru Sintra, another beautifull place).

    Bye.

    Hey!

    Thank you for the PM!

How big is this venue? Is it the same they played in 2000!
And also, where is it located? Is it far from the city center?

I am going to Barcelona on sept 1st and travelling over to Lisbon on the 2nd! I have no place to stay yet, but I will probably check into a hotel from 2nd to 6th! I can't wait to see these shows! They are gonna be highlights of the tour Im sure!

Who hoo! Would be cool to meet some of you over there!

Good luck with the waiting eveyone!

They are going to play in another place, they played in a stadium in 2000, and they are playing now in a pavillion, it is near the river, in a new zone of lisbon where the EXPO 98 took place.. you´ll love it

I Love that boot! I listen to it all the time.

Can you get to these beaches by train? We are giving up our car when we stay in Lisboa.

Sintra is a beautiful place, enchanting. We conceived our son there (24 years ago) at the Pension Economico (last week we heard that it is now a toy museum). and the pasteis! or are those the natas?

The venue has a great location. It's in a place that was completely modified for the Expo 98. It is just by the river and it's great for biking, skating, or just taking a walk (it has a skate park). You can also go to the Oceanario (an aquarium). I recommend that you go to the area in the morning and just walk around until the show, it's really worth it.

That's pretty much what we plan to do. Spend the day down there. How early do you think people will start lining up?

I have no idea, i don't have that much concert experience. At the only concert i have been to at the alantico people just sat on the stairs outside the venue and did't line up until really close to the opening of the doors, but that was not PJ. Me and my friends are going there before lunch, and we'll eat some sandwiches while waiting, but I don't know about other people. I'll try to ask at a portuguese forum.

    Great!!! :)
gotta say that you have such good taste!!;)

i'm going to both... couldn't miss 'em, though i don't really like the venue... (i know i'm always saying the same!!)

in '96 they played in Dramatico de Cascais... unforgetable! a pitty there isn't any bootleg! :(

In 2000, in the stadium, it was not so great, and now i must say that i fear for the Atlantico sound...
Anyway, i believe that Cascais and Astoria are unbeatable! :)

well, since both shows will be sold out and most of people will be on vacations by that time, i'd say pretty early. On the Atlantico Pavillion, people start gathering around the building pretty soon, right after the lunch time, then when they see there is many people around they go to the doors. But, since there are at least 2 entrances for the standing area and the area around the building is huge, the queue doesn't look very big.
