With all due respect I would like to address the members of PJ and Ed Vedder.

Ed's speech the other night was very confusing and obviously requires clarification.
It seems you are indicating that Israel is purposely firing rockets at children.
Isn’t Israel warning their attackers that in self defense they will be firing in specific areas that need to be evacuated?
Obama himself has said about Israel: "There’s just not another country in the world that would allow missiles to be rained down on them without fighting back"

When did Israel purposely fire a rocket at children?? Not in self defense??

How can you condemn a country for acting in self defense? It is so unlike you Ed and unlike Pearl Jam.

Bill Maher said it best - "What I find so ironic is that after World War II, everybody said, ‘I don’t understand the Jews. How could they have just gone to their slaughter like that?’, and then when they fight back: ‘I don’t understand the Jews. Why can’t they just go to their slaughter?’ Its like, ‘You know what? We did that once. It’s not gonna happen again. You’re just gonna have to get used to the fact that Jews now defend themselves -- and by the way, defend themselves better."

If not clarified, Ed's speech can somehow seem pro HAMAS (a terrorist organization) Is Ed Pro Hamas???
I agree PRO PEACE is right, but SEEMINGLY taking sides with a terrorist group like Hamas (and publicly no-less) is WRONG.
And Ed's not clearly indicating that he is not taking sides was also wrong.
He is not clear - His speech obviously stirred a lot of feelings in all of us because he was UNCLEAR.
At this point in his career ED must be careful, and respect the power and potency of his words.
Please Eddie maybe blame the alcohol...
Mr. Vedder; it’s time please assume responsibility for your words and actions.
I am a long long time devoted and now very disappointed & heartbroken fan.
    Please clarify!!!!

So because eds against Israel dropping bombs on Palestinians and killing children with his tax money makes him pro Hamas? That's fucken funny, and some of you are saying eds uneducated????

I never get the idea that EV is really informed on political issues. Maybe he's intentionally uninformed or underinformed, but to view him in any higher light than a pot smoking hippie yelling, "peace dude" is to do an injustice.

let me guess, you know more than him? Or thats what you would like to think

Isnt that what causes these arguments/wars...you think you know, he thinks he knows.....boom conflict

oh if it were so black n white....

Just because someone knows an issue inside and out doesn't make their opinion correct. Not at all. However, I think Ed has a general live and let live approach to all conflicts, international to interpersonal. It's a great way to be, I just don't think ed wants to enter a debate on the merits of each conflict.

He never said anything about a country not defending itself. Quite the opposite actually. He said "he gets it" when a country must retaliate against an attack.

He's calling and pleaing for an end to all violence. What's so wrong with that?

by the way, i wanted to thank Ed for being courageous and for speaking out. i have been researching and actively speaking about this occupation since 2009. for people like me who oppose the occupation, it means a lot for Ed to say something, anything, that can even remotely be perceived as taking a stance that opposes it.

he takes a great risk, as people will bury him in the press, like we have already seen in the JP. he will also alienate some people. he seems fine with that. people like me take similar risks for speaking out, as we can lose our jobs and hurt our careers by speaking out. i choose to speak out rather than say nothing. my conscience would not allow me to stay quiet.

My only input on this is downing bottle after bottle of wine and then talking politics in front of thousands of people is about as wise as asking your girlfriend if she gained weight. It just can't end well. I truly believe his message was peace, but he ended up focusing on one side of the conflict when both sides are every bit as responsible. That I think is where the wine did it's damage lol

    Let's hope it turns out better than the ceasefires negotiated in 1948, 1949, 1953, 1967, 1973, 1996, 2008, 2009, 2012....you get the idea

nobody said that he is pro-palestinian. just because he may scold one government does not automatically make him a supporter of the other side.

I thought the Palestinians are using rockets to rain down on Israel? So now they must have fighter jets (wonder who sold them those) and are dropping "bombs" on Israel? Ok, thanks for clarifying that for us.

Last I recall, Palestinians weren't "crossing borders" to "take land" from Israelis. Have any Israeli children been killed/had bombs fall on top of their heads?

Let's not split hairs here ;)

Badbrains,C'mon bro.We have been debating this on the other thread for weeks.Does the speech the other night give your voice more volume?Do we really have to rehash the whole "terrorist" thing.

"Bro" you're confusing the shit out of me? I didn't bring up the terrorist shit again. I think u misunderstood what jimmy ment in his post, that's all, bro. And let me flip your question for you, do you think that eds speech DIDNT give volume to this cause? If it didn't, all those threatening posts on the jpost wouldn't be happening to eddie. He spoke his fucken opinion, and for that people threatened his life. And here I thought only fucken Arabs are barbaric. So now one can't speak his mind or say he's opinion? Ya democracy, freedom, until u decide to voice for the "other side".

I agree.splitting hairs would be bringing up things like school bus bombings, hijackings, kidnap pings and murdering Olympic athletes.little things like that.We could do this all day. Both sides rehashing violence and horrible acts all thru history.Commited by both sides. At who's expense??? Most the time Innocent people.I feel for the people caught up in this.It sucks.

To RR it does. You're either with Israel, or a Hamas lovin' terrust. THERE IS NO MIDDLE GROUND!
