It has not been confirmed wether the driver was trying to run over marchers or trying to run from accident , but still not a good sign ..

Mag limits would be a great place to start.  I think we can all agree that there is no need for a thirty rounder.
I like the idea of getting a firearms ID card and some sort of training before first time purchase of a firearm.
    Extensive background checks, etc.

i hope both sides can sit down with each other and attempt something.

That would be a good start.  I strongly believe we have to include abolishing assault rifles for non military personnel as well.

America needs to ban auto/semi-automatic weapons, make handguns a restricted weapon with many restrictions, a gun safety course must be passed, guns need to be in a locked storage cabinet.  Will America do any of this...fuck no...most American gun owners choke the chicken with one hand while staring at their guns...what a fuckin joke.

Good question.  You will get all kinds of justification from many Americans for the "need" for guns.  We'll never get rid of them all but you would think more people would at least be in favor of greater restrictions.  But then you'll get the argument that this would "infringe on our freedoms".  Oh goodie, the freedom to get mowed down in a bar or at a festival.

I can imagine.  It looks bad enough as it is from the inside!

I think even the gun nutters no it's out of control.  They just don't care.  I doubt there is a country with more paranoid people within their borders than Americans...

I would never leave my country for the US.

A good chunk of the world has the very same freedoms as the US has, but we do not fear government as many Americans do.

Strange.  Maybe it's not really the land of the free...

Completely agree. My job requires me to sometimes carry a firearm and I was subjected to rigorous training. Thankfully, because I had never even touched a gun in my life before that. I had to go to a two-week, pretty intense training that included classroom portions, practical portions with rubber training guns, and then of course the range with live ammunition. There were tests to take and accuracy drills to pass. It was all very serous and very professional.

THIS is actually what the NRA should be lobbying for. The NRA could work with the government to be the ones administering these tests (for a fee of course). You need practice and take a test before you can drive a car, so why not before you shoot a gun? Maybe everybody could be required to take a full-on NRA-ran training course before their first gun purchase. I'd wager a guess that some (probably most) of the range-masters at my training had an NRA membership. And they were all so helpful and knowledgeable in every aspect. From encouragement to instruction. There are the folks that should be teaching people how to handle guns. People shouldn't be learning from YouTube videos about how to holster a weapon, rack a slide, clean your gun, and shoot your gun. They wouldn't learn how to drive a car from a YouTube video right?

The scary part is that stats show that the % of gun owners across the US from 1972 through 2018 has been steady at +- 43%... Yet millions more guns are out there... which kinda indicates more gun hoarders... basically we have an opioid like addition to guns that affects a small percentage of our overall population, but the rest of the country is paying the price, just like opioids.

Yep.  No reason someone should be a collector of guns.  No reason.  Change laws to limit the amount of firearms per person.  You aren't going to use that semi-automatic in the gun closet to fight off an intruder in the middle of the night because the gun is in the basement locked up in a case.  What is more likely to happen is your kid will finally figure out how to get in the gun case and either accidentally hurt himself or someone else.

All very good points.  The US could look to Canada and our sensible gun laws...the laws protect us seemingly well while respecting the rights of hunters and people who like to shoot handguns at a gun club.  We still have gun crime, but nothing like the US has.

Interesting article, but where is the point that high-capacity magazines or assault weapons should not be in the hands of the public as a preventative measure.
