Feinstein's bill would ban 205 specific “military-style assault weapons” by name, and it more broadly bans firearms containing a detachable magazine and one or more “military characteristics,” including “a pistol grip, a forward grip, a barrel shroud, a threaded barrel or a folding or telescoping stock.” Current owners would be allowed to keep their existing weapons.
Why would Paul Beholden Ryan oppose this? Why is now not the time?
Don't worry, Jeff Sessions Is all over this folks. He's forming a committee to address the lack of enforcement around gun laws and the gang infested areas these shootings happen in.
“They never get enforced,” he said. (Existing laws did not prohibit the Parkland shooter from purchasing the assault rifle apparently used in the attack.) He also added that gun crime is a major problem in “gang-infested” neighborhoods. As others quickly pointed out, Parkland was named Florida’s safest city in 2017 by a home-security trade association.

I wouldn't mind seeing the age to own a firearm raised to 25...get rid of all that high school and college angst.
That could be a problem for cops and soldiers and other people who carry firearms for their jobs. Obviously young hunters would flip out too. Many of them are under 25. Plus, it wouldn't do anything for all the psychos older than 25. I mean, the Vegas shooter was in his 60s, and many other shooters are older than 25 too. I like the direction of your thinking, but I'm not sure such a high age restriction makes any sense. Adults have to be equal, and that includes 19 - 24 year olds.

Yeah I forgot about cops/soldiers and people who carry firearms for jobs....exempting them would be the easiest way. But my thinking was more towards school shootings and not the psycho in vegas.

fyi allie: in new jersey I think it is 18 to own a rifle/shotgun but 21 to own a handgun. Not sure about other states.

Yeah, it's tough. Preventing school shootings without fucking up our kids isn't an easy task. Obviously nobody wants the kids growing up in a police state, so arming the school to the teeth and making them line up for security checks every time they enter the school isn't a reasonable option (for most).... Certainly ending the sale of assault weapons would be a start, as you've mentioned already.... I dunno. I've said it before and I've said it again - the real problem is just the overall gun culture in America. And that will take generations to fix.

So most of us think that teachers should be payed higher wages, right? *Most* of us agree that security personnel in schools should be armed, right? If you had a percentage of trained willing teachers on every campus with dual security training and getting payed well above a typical teacher pay grade while these types of firearms are available to the public, you would kind of take care of three problems all at once... Of course that would require grants, and the deficit that no one seems to care about anymore would get even higher. I wouldn’t mind paying higher taxes for that though. Again, only while ar-15s are available to the public??
What a loathsome and severely deviant fuck Cruz was/is. Isn't one of the number one precursors to being a mass murderer animal abuse and torture? We should have a whole investigative division devoted to following up on reports of juveniles who exhibit this type of behavior.
Everyone has a tipping point and yesterday was it, i am fucking done with ar-15's. It took me a while to come around but as a hunter I have come to realize there is zero reason to have these. Their real and only purpose is to kill. I know it isn't going to happen but they should be illegal, give me a bolt action with a scope on it any day of the week.
Looking forward to some shows this summer!
This post is awesome.

Why, AT THE VERY LEAST can't we have better background checks, waiting period and NO FRIGGEN automatic weapons in the hands of civilians. They're only made for killing LOTS of people.

More guns is NOT the answer, otherwise this problem wouldn't exist here in the first place since this country is fucking LITTERED with guns
A school shooting would just get more deadly not to mention accidental shootings and trigger happy people
I don't really think that's going to be the result. I think if a few select teachers, like the football coach who acted quickly and selflessly, are armed they will have some opportunity to improve the safety in an event like this. The problem is that getting the weapon out of safe storage and getting to the shooter is going to be difficult and it's not going to be as effective as having all teachers armed, which I think is a terrible idea. Most teachers are not and will never be capable of maintaining that responsibility safely and effectively.
I get the knee jerk reaction against more guns, but we have to be real here. Pandora is out of the jar, her ills and evils can't be put back and we are talking about kids lined up like rifle fodder. People say violence never solves anything, those people are dead wrong. Once violence is initiated, it becomes an immutable force, like gravity, that must be overcome. Violence, or better yet, the credible threat of violence, is usually the only thing that counters violence. We can keep our achools well-stocked with thoughts and prayers and we can duck and cover all day, but body counts matter. Stopping this kid at 15 casualties instead of 17 because a rigorously vetted and trained security asset makes a world of difference to two families that get to hug their kids again.
I knew it wouldn’t be long before folks state advocating for teachers to be armed , how about the church minister or hotel employees or hospital employees or club bouncers before long everyone will need to be armed , folks there are an estimated 5 to 10 million AR15’s on our streets presently can we at least try to stop from getting to 15million before we arm everyone holy fuck folks , we have a problem...

That’s my thoughts. Not just getting them a second rate training, but as you said “rigorously vetted and trained”. I know that there are a lot of people against arming teachers, but this would be more akin to having more armed/tactically trained security personnel that could totally turn the tables in these situations. Hell, have them run drills every other week to stay on their toes. I’m sure you would have volunteers. I run the scenarios through my head and this would be the one thing that, in all of these school shootings, would most likely stop the rampage...quickly. I think a shooters motivation would change a bit if they knew they were walking into a place that they are completely outnumbered. “Five five, five against one”

5 to 10 million AR15’s in circulation at the moment , are you willing to pay more in taxes to fund these special programs to train teachers to be armed to protect their schools... So you believe more people armed is the answer ?

That Sandy Hook killer looks creepy, every single school shooter looks creepy.
i actually erased my reply to you because it would have contained a pic of that creep.
I think this is a good idea gambs.
