Funny how the same people that say they are annoyed by gun/car analogies are using...gun/car analogies...

I didn't post an analogy. I told a story about how people get their driver's licenses erroneously in Vancouver... Are there people in the USA who get their gun licenses in the same way? I have absolutely no idea if they do or not, so I certainly wasn't offering up a gun analogy. FYI, the stupid pro-gun/car comparison as an argument for gun safety and lack of regulation is one of the dumbest thing ever and doesn't follow logic.
Was not specifically referring to you...
Who were you specifically referring to then? If no one in particular, I think my 2 cents were warranted.
I think it was a reply to what the beaver guy sarcastically stated above...2 cents are always warranted though make it 5 cents next time! :)

One thing is clear and can't be disputed, a very high majority (>90%) of mass shootings in the US over the last ten years were done in declared "gun-free zones".

There aren't gates in gun free zones where everyone gets inspected. Buy a gun in a non gun free zone and take it to a gun free zone.

That is an ignorant statement to make. Gun free zones exist to strengthen penalties for carrying weapons.
yeah but the point is if you are a "law abiding citizen" you respect gun free zones and don't carry within them. criminals know this and exploit it.
Exactly, someone wanting to rack up a body count is probably going to research where he would be most successful and least likely to be stopped...a gun free zone.

I think car registration started because of safety issues. There were a huge number of deaths and drivers would just bolt. Maybe an auto historian could chime in on the issue?

I wish they'd bring back bicycle registration. too many asshole cyclists out there that you can do nothing about.
It's not enforceable and cops are free to pull over any cyclist riding like a tool. Plus, bikes do considerable less damage than cars.

I think the ones complaining about the gun/car analogy didn't read the couple of previous posts. It was brought up (by me) as a statement to say we are required to have a license to drive a car. As a gun owner myself, I don't think it would be unreasonable to take a safety class and require a license to purchase a gun either. This was a follow-up to my previous comment about lame gun laws, and if they were really intended to improve gun control they would have something similar to that rather than the lame safety test that is required now in some states (well, California anyway) that are intended to just deter people from buying a gun and not actually improve anything..

Yeah, cyclists are required to follow traffic laws just like people in cars are, so all the cops have to do is enforce that better. I think actually making people register would be harmful to the movement to get people out of cars, which I think is important, and it would fuck things up for kids too, no?

I really doubt that criminals think that much into it. Gun free zones are made mainly to make penalties worse...in order to discourage crime.
so if they are made to "discourage crime" why are all these massacres within the same boundaries? you really think criminals don't think that much into their actions before carrying them out?

How does one even identify gun free zones btw? Are there signs posted everywhere?

Pretty much all public gathering places are "gun free zones", which is why that narrative is dumb, and yes, there are usually signs located here and there.

Yeah, that is dumb (especially for someone who lives in a place where it being "gun free" is implied no matter what unless you are on a military base, a gun range, a hunting tour, or a police station, lol.

There are actually very few gun free zones that someone would visit on a regular. A police station or school would be an example and enforceable by law. Stores who say they are gun free zones like Starbucks and Target carry no legal weight. They can have you escorted off the property but no criminal charges can be filed. I do remember seeing an interview with current inmates in prison and they said they would specifically target the weakest threat such as gun free zones and would be less likely to target a place where there was a likelihood of there being a gun or an unknown.

Not exactly true. It depends on the state laws and property owners decisions.

I'm willing to bet it had more todo with Roads and theft identification, a tax on the cars thru reg. helped pay for the roads cars needed to drive on rather than old wagon trails. but this is just a guess..

The Supreme Court upholds the ban on people convicted of minor domestic abuse to purchase guns legally. I'm curious if anyone feels like this is too much or an overstep?

yes I do, minor domestic abuse is too open, meaning your wife or girlfriend can call the police and say "he hit me" even though it may never really have happened, but this is a bullshit law pushed in by bullshit politicians.

The efforts were taken in order to “close a dangerous loophole” that allowed people convicted of “minor” domestic abuse to purchase and own weapons legally. Now, the ban on felons owning firearms has been extended to include people convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence.

this is a step in the direction to ban firearms completely.......

Don't know about it being an overstep...just doubt it will make much of a difference anywhere in the whole scheme of things concerning how many abusers actually have access to guns. If someone wants one, they will get one. A person convicted of domestic abuse probably doesn't have the moral servitude to follow these laws...but I guess it would be a fine way of convicting that person with a felony for owning a gun in the future.
Riding on that, study after study shows that black communities experience domestic violence at a way higher rate than white and this law will have a much greater impact on them...wonder how long it will take the NAACP to complain about even more black people being charged with felonies compared to white people with a lower rate of domestic violence. Will people scream racism when this law results in even more black men than white start getting slapped with prison sentences for illegal gun ownership?

yes I do, minor domestic abuse is too open, meaning your wife or girlfriend can call the police and say "he hit me" even though it may never really have happened, but this is a bullshit law pushed in by bullshit politicians.

    Godfather.

don't hit a woman, keep your guns. pretty easy I'd say.

if you are with a woman who will lie to put you in jail, get away from that woman. also pretty easy.
sooooo...you really believe it's that easy ? and you believe limiting gun sales will make the world better ?
gun's are the last thing this country needs to worry about but these dummies in government got you guy's fooled
into believing gun's are bad and need more restrictions....it's time wake up and smell the coffee.

    Godfather.

Excuse me...if people on the terrorism watch list can buy guns legally we definitely need more restrictions.

If you can't agree to that then that speaks to your intelligence not anyone else's.
so your calling for more gun restrictions for dirtbags on a terrorist watch list....fine by me and if fact I'd just deport their ass's because they are on that list, problem solved.

    Godfather.
So you just agreed that more restrictions were needed....yet just a few moments before you basically said we were dupes for believing that more restrictions were necessary.

Do you see how you don't have much credibility here?
A Clinton supporter speaking of credibility. That's funny.
someone who doesn't participate in the democratic process constantly bitching about those in power and those who vote them in. now that's funny.
