A condominium is pretty much an apartment, except we own it (so all the owners/residents pay monthly association fees on top of mortgage).

What's the difference between a condo and a co op?

I may be mistaken, but I think a co-op is where the other owners vote to allow you to buy a unit in the building.

Kind of like the Andrea Doria episode of Seinfeld.

I wanted a house, not a condo. No more close neighbours, that is awesome. We also have a nice sized backyard with a garden. I love it, it is just a lot of work because we do so much ourselves. I want to move in already. We decided against hardwood and for a laminate that looks very realistic. I was sursprised how nice it looks. Well and the price is not too bad either. That might be an option for you too.

I am not sure how it works replacing a door when you have furniture and cats around. Just make sure the new door has the same measures as the old one, otherwise you might have to enlarge the door opening or make it smaller. I think other than that it should be pretty easy to replace a door.

We would SO love a little house but wanting to stay in this area, the prices are prohibitive. At least we love where we are and getting some equity in the process.

One day though - garden, workshop, and screened-in sunroom for the kitties :)

Yes, that is exactly what we got :D I can see how you don't wanna move from a location where you feel comfy. We are actually moving from an area that I don't like that much to a much more desirable area, a little bit in the sticks. And I guess we are lucky to live in the metro Detroit area where property prices are not as crazy as in other ares of the country...

Ugh all this talk about the hassles of home renovating has me worried. We are adding on to our house to have a place for my inlaws to live. We still don't even have the stupid permits and the headaches have been huge. Architect and contractors and inspectors.... All of them just want more $$$. I've refinished our hardwood floors (sand, stain and finish) while living in the house. It was tough but we just had to pile up the furniture in the rooms not being done and then live in just those rooms until finished. I put up sheets of plastic at the doorways and taped tons of tape around the edges in attempt to contain the dust. It was a lot of physical work but worth it bc the floors are really beautiful and so much easier to keep clean than carpet. I still have the master bedroom and my son's room. Our room will be the toughest bc the furniture will be hard to fit into the other rooms and will have to sleep on the floor during the process. I'd like to get it done though. I really despise carpet.

House isn't an option for me, but I do understand the appeal. Especially for the garden & the space away from neighbors.

I put flax seeds into my bread when I bake. Not too much, just a little bit. Chia seeds are good to stay "regular" as well. You can just mix them into yogurt.

I bought a drink with Chia seeds not realizing that they weren't liquefied... It's the new "naked" flavor, cherry lime chia. The flavor was great but I couldn't drink it with all the bits.

I made those no-bake cookies...this time I added rice krispies to them.

yum! chia seed water. in the last 3 yrs i've only not had chia seed water maybe one week & i wasn't thrilled about it either. never had the "naked, chia drinks" although i do like a 'naked' smoothie but i'd rather make mine homemade

chia seed water is a daily (24x7) event in my home

That was even better than the movie!

Chadwick give the Naked cherry lime chia a try. I had never heard of chia seeds before, I've only heard of chia pets. I only grab one of those naked smoothies when i don't have time to eat any actual food. Otherwise I prefer freshly made smoothies too.

Yep, we are comfy where we are at and was previously renting this house, I just bought it, so let the renovations begin, I already have the powder room torn out and am upgrading everything. Not to mention scraping off the popcorn ceilings.

Are you living there while doing the ceilings? We have that fucking popcorn here too but with ours being a small place and having two cats, the prospect seems impossible unless we were to temporarily move out (which isn't gonna happen).

Oh, what a pain in the ass. We've had all kinds of problems going on from caving walls in the basement which let water in to a leaking roof. Yeah, we will never buy a fixer upper in the winter again :P Thankfully, we don't have popcorn ceilings. But even if we did, I think it wouldn't matter anymore, cause we will re-drywall all the walls and ceiling. Today, our bathtub and vanity arrived and we got mighty excited. The tub is a six footer to fit us tall folks, and I think we even fit in there together (yay!) and the vanity is a gorgeous piece of reddish wood with - gasp - slow closing drawers. I have never been more excited about a vanity in my life lol
