even if someone is making 300$ on a sevens box set, i dont think that is getting rich. sure people might make something, but getting rich, probably not.

If a newcomer's perspective means anything, I've found it belittling that 95% of the folks looking to sell are asking eBay prices. Fan clubs are a family, at least, that's what I thought...we all pay for the privilege to interact with fellow die-hards, why are we gouging each other to death?
Have things always been this way around here? Or does it have more to do with demographics?
Or perhaps at this point everything in circulation for trading was acquired at these insane prices to begin with so we're truly looking at everyone's cost (a touch naive, but an option)?
Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where?
It has been like this in the PJ community for a lot longer than the last few months, or since the last tour....that sounds like 'kids these days/get off my lawn' nostalgia to me... (but hey, we're all getting old, right? )....I think it really took off with the Benny and leftover Riot Act tour poster online sales, and hasn't looked back....that was 10+ years ago. But ya....bumping your own thread repeatedly with no outside interest is bad forum etiquette regardless of your reason for doing so...
well ... I paid for a sevens ... dearly. Now, If I would have gotten one at the regular sale price, I would have a lot easier of a time trading/selling at a very fair value. So that is a big factor on what goes on around here I think.
If someone bought a Pitts poster from another at $180-200, and than realized, meh, its not that great. Its kind of a tough pill to swallow to turn around and give a member here a discount price for that poster of $70 or something.
So some of us get all caught up in the game that really never intended to.

It became 'like this' after about 3-5 months when Lost Dogs forum opened. There's a lot of good and bad on here. Just goes in waves. There are some real characters around here though, and its tough to stay away from!
...No one here is getting rich off of trading and selling PJ LPs.
Sadly, I need to disagree with you on that point. I think there are a lot of people who are using LD as a way to make some decent money. People have turned a Sevens boxset into $300 profit, made $100 on a Coke bottle-colored Ten before even receiving it, flipped some 2013 posters for quick $, etc.
This place has changed a lot over the last 5 months. I remember when the holy grail threads were always at the top of page 1. Now they are probably pushed to the third page with all of these sales.
I am afraid to see what this place is going to be like when there is a US tour and people need tickets. The mods are going to need to take control or there will be some ticket scalping going on here (with $ or with merch). We already saw some of it last year with Wrigley tickets.
I remember when Lost Dogs first came into being, I naively thought to myself, "Awesome! Now I'll finally be able to affordably complete my Pearl Jam vinyl collection!"
What a maroon!
Of all my Pearl Jam LPs -- namely, Ten through Yield -- only Yield was acquired from a fellow fan on this forum via a trade. The rest were acquired for much cheaper than Lost Dogs prices from eBay auctions (Ten for $15, Vs. for $20, Vitalogy for $20, No Code for $65 (although this one shipped from England, but it was still cheaper than scoring one from the Lost Dogs forum)). I'm still missing LO2L, Binaural, Riot Act, Lost Dogs, Benaroya Hall (of course), and Pearl Jam (Avocado), and I imagine those gaps will remain until these are repressed or maybe forever.
The thread that really got me upset appeared about a month or so after Lost Dogs opened. (I just spent about 30 minutes trying to find it but could not.) At any rate, in this thread, the OP wanted to trade one of his/her more market valuable records (read: No Code-Pearl Jam (Avocado)) for a copy of something more in line with its face value (read: Ten, Vs., Vitalogy, or (gasp!) Backspacer or maybe even (double gasp!) non-PJ wax), and people ridiculed him/her relentlessly. The OP even responded something to the effect of, "Hey, I paid $15-$20 for this record that I no longer want/have a duplicate of and I just want to trade it for this other record that somebody paid $15-$20 for that they no longer want/have a duplicate of. What's the big deal? Sounds fair to me." After which more monkeys threw some poop at him.
So it goes.
Like my buddy 2-feign-reluctance said above, though, "tough to stay away from!" I mean everyone like monkeys, right?

Not the thread you're looking for, but it serves the same purpose...
I can only speak for myself on this. But I post prices based on averages or I try to get back what I put out for an item. Like my Pitt AP. I paid a lot and i'd like to get the money back or at least the value in a cash/trade deal.

Well, I'd like to think that's what the average seller here has this in mind, but we've heard all the reasons and stories behind why people what they want. In the end its an open market with a few guidelines that's not IMO, policed enough. People get away with auction style threads ('give me your best offer) all the time being slick with their wording and really there's no way to stop it once it goes to PM.

When I first started putting the finishing touches on the PJ record collection, I was missing Binaural, Avocado, Lost Dogs, RVM collection, Benaroya and Live on Two Legs. Here is the pre-Lost Dogs forum story, and the post.
Binaural and Avocado: Obtained from the Porch before Lost Dogs from a really generous forum member. I traded a mint PJ Hawaii 2006 (with Kings of Leon?) poster I won during a 10c 'mystery poster sale.' The seller and I spoke on the phone multiple times during the transaction and both came away with what we wanted.
Avocado part II: Lost Dogs forum up and running, maybe in the first 3-5 months? I sold the aforementioned LP and had Arq list it on eBay to help raise funds to get my friend mfc2006 a 1998 Kansas City PJ poster - which I bought off Expresso Beans for $175 (a fucking deal if you ask me) brand spankin' new/minty fresh. The LP sold for less than $100 if I recall. Months later I was then put in touch with Stephanie here in Lost Dogs and she sent me her copy of Avocado (that I still have) in exchange for me buying her a copy of Alice In Chains Unplugged reissued by MOV. Spent maybe $40 total?
Lost Dogs: Board member from Lost Dogs forum sold me his opened copy for $100. A fucking awesome and generous deal.
RVM: Lost Dogs forum up and running about a year. Bought off an Amazon merchant who had 3 sealed copies. He parted with it for around $130 - and told me it was a one time 'discount' because I 'sounded like a huge fan.'
Benaroya Hall - Parents bought me one on eBay opened for $535 - this was around the time things were getting a little weird in Lost Dogs. Thanks Mom and Dad!!
Live on Two Legs: A 'Holy Grail' gift from too many nice folks on here to complete the collection up to that point.
*blackdiamond sent me his white Backspacer LP as a surprise after 10c e-mailed me and said they didn't know what happened to my shipment - lost forever
Case in point - there was a window of time where getting PJ LPs on here was fairly reasonable. That time is largely over IMO, but are still some folks out there that I don't think spin their LPs and want to come here and give them 'better homes."

That's the ticket, I think most people are stockpiling "trade bait" in order to have munition to acquire original copies of the bands albums. It sucks not everyone gets what they want, but it is not often you see people complaining they got ""ripped" off here. Never, I believe. A simple solution, repress your f*cking albums PJ.
I agree. I tried to explain it in a different thread, but LD has taken a turn into a more "predatory" community. How many times have I seen trade "offers" like "Sevens, Coke Bottle Ten, Pittsburgh and Portland Posters, and Vault 3 for a Benny". People seem to increasingly snipe recent stuff with no intention on keeping them in order to flip for higher end items, or very often just selling.
As far as selling goes, you see people "listing" them here at full ebay prices, bumping threads many times a day for months it seems without budging. The advantage here over ebay is there are no fees or time constraints, as well as your "target market".
I dont think its out of control, yet. Seems to be increasing and like PJ-Cubs said, tickets will be worse. I thought it was extremely close to the line this past tour with soooo many people trading GA tickets and such.
I really do not think LD should be about "maxing out" so much. Especially with items released recently.
The mods shut down a lot of threads last year where people were trying to trade tickets for high-value items. I think they will do the same for the next tour. There is now way that the 10C will allow scalping on their site.
Yeah, the mods are pretty vigilant when it comes to tix. Plus, members report people selling tix for a profit here ... I know I do ( the ONLY thing I ever report on the forum is scalping and auctions on Lost Dogs - I encourage everyone to do the same). And the mods react immediately. I don't see ticket reselling for above face value becoming an issue on LD.

You can still find plenty of generosity here. People just tend to focus on the negative I think. There are always a lot of threads complaining about stuff, but never any threads about all the good shit that happens on Lost Dogs. Doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

raffles and the rest of it are starting to get out of control.
there's a place to make a quick dollar its called eBay and there is a reason why you can't post links to that site.
it seems some have gotten creative about flipping. Like I said if your gonna flip flip buy don't try and act like its something else.
