help me with a very difficult PJ decision...

I own a never played sevens boxset.... My buddy has offered me his 2TB hard drive with every single official bootleg in FLAC format in exchange for my sevens boxset....

Now I'm a practical guy, I'm gonna get way more use out of the boots, I love live PJ and I'd never be able to get my hands on a complete live collection on my own. All's sevens does is sit there and look pretty, very damn pretty actually...what is a pj fan to do???

Leaning towards the boots, I like it! He's a buddy, but while he might let me copy the hard ddrive he has gone to a lot of effort to purchase/obtain these himself over the years, so it'd feel like cheating. Any arguments in favour of keeping sevens?

Right, this guy is really only giving up the actual hard drive, not any music. He'll end up with both items. So a good friend would give you the FLACs regardless and then if you want to part with the box set, come up with a fair price/offer. Not that a nice 2 TB (external?) drive isn't worth anything, because it is. But there are way more hard drives available than box sets.

I think he just gets the hard drive to copy not to keep.

Exactly. You're giving up a rare item which you may never see again in exchange for a 2TB hard drive with some random files on it that you can download on your own free time. For all you know, he has backups of those files on another hard drive somewhere.

Hugh Dillion also says it right...all the stuff is available on the internet if you know where to look.

Funny, I'm always reading in that trading forum that if it's a trade the two parties are happy with...

That's the only question you need to answer, for yourself.

Well that's why he asked the question of the forum, since he is not sure if he should be satisfied with the trade. (assuming male in my pronouns).

Using the same assumption, it's already answered in his second paragraph.

    Ummmmm, yeah.

All you're doing is saving the time downloading the shows, as others have said, these shows are all readily available for free...it's a bum deal for you man.

Keep the wax. Not as hard of a decision as you may have thought.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. How come your friend isn't just making you a copy????
And as someone else said, all of the official boots are available on pearljambootlegs.org. Keep your Sevens and go ask your friend for a copy of the FLAC files. If he won't give it to you for some strange reason, go download them for free.

  • I would not sleep at night if I got a 7s by letting someone copy my digital files. karma would be against me and I would get Fkd over some other way in my PJ wants. I would hang onto the 7s. If he does not want to do anything else offer him 7s value in cash. or go download it all for free. This 7s seems to be quite a cherished item for some. I missed out on stupid email or mine would be spinning right now. I would not let it go so easily. imo =)

I just give the boots away to my friends because I've heard something that I think they would like as well.
I don't ask anything back for it. If I want a copy of something they own they don't ask me anything back either.
From where I'm standing your friend would get the better part of the deal.
It is a nice item for your collection. And if you don't care for such things than he should at least offer you the money you paid on top of the boots.
It's not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me.

I wouldn't accept the deal. You can trade or scavange the internet to get the digital files for the bootlegs. I don't really assign a value on that.

A used 2tb hard drive is worth less than 100 bucks.

If one of my friends wanted copies of all my old PJ flacs, all they'd need to do is bring me some blank blurays to burn them on (don't have the patience for dvd's anymore.. too many discs :) ).

Sevens goes over 300 bucks. It seems like you get the short end of the stick to me.
  • I would definitely hang on to the sevens. I am still kicking myself for not ordering it when I had the chance!

Are you planning on flipping the sevens or just collecting them to collect them (and the accompanying dust)? If you don't plan on playing them, someone out there who is a vinyl freak would be more than happy to have them... and actually play them. :-)
