20 Years Kurt

Poor guy, just another reason why you should't marry a stripper. At least Dave managed to salvage a career out of being in Nirvana. Reading the Everett True biography I have a hard time thing Kurt would be suicidal but stranger things have happened, but it just doesn't seem like a guy that was that aware of his worth would have ended it all, but Heroin is a strange beast so maybe he did.
Pouring one out for Kurt, but still can't help but think, don't marry a stripper...Raleigh, NC 8-18-92

R.I.P Kurt. He was defs murdered.0

I like Nirvana, but the band is so overrated and so is Kurt. I think it's ridiculous that people look at guys like him as heroes. Him and his wife were clearly junkies whose lives were an absolute mess. I don't think that's iconic at all, and it's a shame that he gets more attention and credit than others who make better music and keep their lives together and don't make fools out of themselves.0

Are you joking? If you're one of those that think Courtney planned the entire thing...does she look like someone who is intelligent enough to mastermind a full-proof plan to have her celebrity husband murdered and get away with it? End of story right there.EddieisNumber1 said:R.I.P Kurt. He was defs murdered.

I am (was) a pretty big fan of Nirvana but it is often ignored that they were on the decline in 1993/4 ...In Utero wasn't that well received immediately and his behaviour was bigger news than the music itself. It was only after KC's death that the band was "re-glorified" and all of a sudden they (and In Utero) were immortalized.Post edited by rummy on0

Yup. People always forget pj was the much bigger band at the time. I mean look at the sales of vs compared to in utero (especially the first week)I'll ride the wave where it takes me......0

As harsh as this sounds... 100% spot on and my take on Kurt.jp307677 said:I like Nirvana, but the band is so overrated and so is Kurt. It would be interesting to think about how long Nirvana would have stuck around if it weren't for Kurt's death. Imagine the same situation happening to Pearl Jam after No Code? People would said they were done anyways, the album was not well received and maybe it was the beginning of the end for PJ. And here we are all these years later...rummy said:I am (was) a pretty big fan of Nirvana but it is often ignored that they were on the decline in 1993/4 ...In Utero wasn't that well received immediately and he behaviour was bigger news than the music itself. I thought IN Utero was very raw sounding and their best album. Nirvana was only getting better. I thought the music and lyrics were amazing and coming from a hardcore/punk background this was right up my alley.
I totally see how people didn't care for them or thought they were overrated. It's not for everyone.0 -
I can only imagine what could have been. Sad. But at least, we have Bleach, Nevermind, and In Utero. Oh, let's not forget the truly classic Unplugged Album too. R.I.P Kurt.0

I wonder if people realize what Nevermind did to rock n roll. If anyone can recall the overnight takedown of Michael Jackson's Dangerous album to #1 on the Billboard charts. A completely new genre of rock was born.
It is easy to dismiss Kurt because he was a junkie, but he was accomplished regardless.0 -
Wow man, have some compassion. Drug abuse is a disease, not something to judge someone on. Get off your high horse. Judge him on his music, anything else is none of your business.jp307677 said:I like Nirvana, but the band is so overrated and so is Kurt. It is indeed a good album - a great album, in fact that, imo, is better than Nevermind. I was simply stating that it wasn't getting very favourable reviews (especially compared to Vs) in some circles but when KC died it seemed the media jumped on the bandwagon and turned him into a demi-god.tempo_n_groove said:I thought IN Utero was very raw sounding and their best album. Agreed. Sounds very harsh but I really couldn't agree more with this.rival. said:

I cant imagine Dave would have spent many more years behind the drum kit playing Kurt's songs. Hes too talented, and even if Kurt lived that solo Foo release would have eventually happened. Maybe later than 1995, but not much.rival. said:It would be interesting to think about how long Nirvana would have stuck around if it weren't for Kurt's death.

I know this sounds cliche, but this band truly changed my direction and outlook in and of music at 14, 15 years old. And I haven't looked back since.0

People can call Kurt and Nirvana overrated all they like, but no single band has shaken up the status quo quite like they did in the twenty plus years since they made it big.
Hard to believe it's been twenty years, still tough to listen to Nirvana's music without an overwhelming feeling of sadness, but listening to Nevermind right now it pretty much epitomizes the word 'classic'.0
